THE BEST FULL COVERAGE DRUGSTORE FOUNDATION | MAYBELLINE SUPERSTAY 24 HOUR FOUNDATION

February 7, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

How is your week going so far? I hope that you’re as happy to be closer to the weekend than Monday as I am ; )

I love having an array of foundations for all different occasions, and one foundation type I always need in my stash is a super full coverage and matte foundation that I know can cover all my imperfections while lasting all day long. I have been testing out the Maybelline SuperStay 24 Hour Foundation and want to share my thoughts with you.

My Thoughts

Right off the bat I love that this has a pump bottle instead of plain glass because I find it much easier to get the right amount without waste as opposed to bottled foundation without a pump (I love tube foundations in terms of packaging, too). As with most very full coverage foundations I use a primer (this is my favorite primer) to avoid settling into my pores.  I was blown away with how full coverage this really was, and I found it to set very quickly so I had to move fast. When applying this I would suggest dotting a bit of foundation on one area of your face, blend it in with a brush, sponge, or your fingers, and then dot some foundation on another area of your face and repeat so it doesn’t start drying down on you before you’ve blended it into your skin.  You can see my apply it with the Eco Tools Sponge on my LeahTacklesBeauty Instagram. When using this foundation I only needed concealer for my dark circles under my eyes (I blame my three Little Loves as well as genetics, love ya mom and dad!).

My Routine

I use my fingers to apply my favorite makeup primer, focusing on my t-zone, before applying the Maybelline SuperStay 24 Hour Foundation in Classic Ivory (*Note: I have noticed that even though I am typically the lightest shade in most foundation ranges, this is even a bit light for me and I will need to mix or go a shade darker in the summer).  I enjoy applying this with my favorite Sigma F50 stippling brush or a beauty sponge.

Final Thoughts

If you’re searching for a full coverage foundation that stays in place all day long (I didn’t test it for 24 hours, but it wore beautifully for at least 12!) this is a fantastic option at a great price point of about $11. The line has 16 shades in the range, which is a fair amount but I would love to see even more shades available. I love that this foundation doesn’t feel heavy, but gives a ton of coverage.

Shop

Have you tried this foundation? What is your favorite drugstore foundation? Let me know in the comments : ) Have a fantastic weekend! xx

L’OREAL LASH PARADISE | WORTH THE HYPE?

January 22, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that your week is off to a positive start! Let’s be bold this week and not be afraid to put ourselves out there!

I love experimenting with mascara, and I’ve been playing around with Lash Paradise from L’oreal and want to share my thoughts with you today.

L’Oreal Lash Paradise

L’Oreal’s Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara is their first mascara for voluptuous volume and length now with more black pigments. The wavy bristle brush holds formula volume. The applicator has 200+ bristles.

My Thoughts
I love the hourglass shape of the wand makes it easy to apply to every part of the lash. I noticed thickening, and lengthening with the mascara, and the formula is wet but not so wet that it was messy for me to apply. I will say that I did notice slight smudging when wearing this mascara alone, but when I wore it with my favorite go-to mascara base, the Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara in Water Resistant, I didn’t notice a smudging problem. I am a fan of layering mascaras, and this seems like a great one to pop on when I want both lengthening and volume.  I am enjoying this mascara, and will be keeping it in my mascara rotation. If you’re interested in my mascara layering bundles, please let me know in the comments : )

L’Oreal Lash Paradise vs. Too Faced Better Than Sex

The packaging of the L’Oreal Lash Paradise is *very* similar to the Too Faced cult favorite Better Than Sex mascara, and many have stated that the Lash Paradise is a dupe for the higher end brand. I find the Lash Paradise to be a more wet formula, which while you do risk more smudging I enjoyed because I prefer the way a wetter formula applies, and also tend to have less of a flaking issue. Mascara can be a very personal choice, because everyone has different needs and preferences with their lashes, but for me I enjoy both of these as a “second coat” mascara to build and lengthen my lashes.

My Routine

I apply two coats of my L’Oreal Voluminous Primer and then curl my lashes with my Tarte Lash Curler. I then apply my favorite “base” mascara, Covergirl Clump Crusher in Water Resistant, and then apply my L’Oreal Lash Paradise in Water Resistant (I prefer water resistant mascaras to avoid smudging).

Have you tried this mascara? Do you layer mascara? What is your favorite mascara?

Thank you, as always, for reading! Live your week with dignity and grace! xx

LAURA MERCIER LOOSE SETTING POWDER DUPE? | COTY AIRSPUN POWDER

December 11, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you had a great weekend : )

I have spoken many times both here and on my YouTube channel about the Laura Mercier Loose Powder, but the steep price point made me want to find a more affordable option, and I think I have finally found a dupe that is less than a quarter of the price!

What It Claims

Coty Airspun Powder has powder particles are swirled and smoothed by air to give it a very soft feel on the skin. This powder is designed with tints that are spread finely through the powder lying evenly and flat on your skin for a flawless finish. Coty Airspun loose face powder claims it can be used to set makeup or as a foundation This translucent loose face powder will hide fine lines, wrinkles and blemishes. Coty Airspun loose face powder is also dermatologically tested and long-lasting. It claims the packaging can be used at home on your vanity or in your purse on-the-go.

My Thoughts and How It Compares

This powder is very finely milled and mimics the feel of the Laura Mercier Powder that is my all-time favorite (or maybe Laura Mercier mimics it, as the Coty powder has been around since 1935!) and I love the way it sets my makeup, including my under eye area. This powder can be used to bake your concealer or contour, and it is so inexpensive that this would be a great option for that. The powder has a little bit of a smell that is definitely might make you nostalgic or remind you of your mother or grandmother’s makeup, but it didn’t bother me and doesn’t linger on the skin. I am blown away by how matte this makes my skin, and how well it sets my under eye and forehead area and keeps my makeup from settling into my fine lines. The packaging is definitely old-fashioned, and the powder puff is usable, but would be very messy, and I opt to use a brush. I like to use this brush for setting my under eye and this brush for setting the rest of my face. As far as travel, I would never put this in my purse, because it is messy enough to use on my vanity.

My Routine

I apply my primer, foundation, and then my concealer before using my Coty Airspun Powder. I like to set my under eye concealer and my forehead with a small tapered brush (mentioned above) and then my entire face using a large powder brush (also mentioned above). I then continue to do my entire face makeup before setting my t-zone with a *tiny* bit more powder with the same large powder brush. I don’t typically bake my makeup, but on days where I decide to I will also use this to bake my concealer and cream contour.

Have you tried this powder? What is your favorite loose setting powder? Do you bake your makeup? Let me know in the comments and let’s chat makeup! xx

MY 7 MOST USED DRUGSTORE MAKEUP ITEMS | JANUARY-JUNE 2017

June 26, 2017 & 1 Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday! And, most importantly, HAPPY SEVEN YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY to my husband!

Why, oh why, do the weekends always fly by? We had a nice weekend getting odd jobs done around the house and spending time outside when the rain wasn’t coming down. I hope that you had a great weekend and that your week is off to a terrific start! Speaking of time flying, it is already almost July! I can’t believe how fast 2017 is going!  I thought that a post sharing my seven (seven for 2017, get it?) most reached for drugstore makeup items for the year so far would be a good way to show what I truly love and use regularly.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation

This foundation lasts all day without feeling super heavy. I get medium to full coverage with this foundation, and apply it with stippling brush (my favorite is the Sigma F80).

Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze

These individual eye shadow pots can be applied with your finger and start as a cream feel, but go to a powder finish. I use these alone, and as an eye shadow base. When I went into labor with my youngest I was wearing a Maybelline Color Tattoo, and you can see it in pictures after he was born…so it works ; )

Rimmel Scandaleyes Water Proof Kohl Kajal Liner in Nude

I did an entire blog post on this (read it here) because it is AMAZING! This is my quick-fix for tired eyes.

L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara Primer Base

I also did a blog post featuring this (read it here) and it is now an almost every single day item for me! I love the ooomph this gives my lashes.

Hard Candy Brow Ink in Light Medium

This is a super tiny brush and works great for me for a natural day when I am not doing anything else to my brows, or as a finishing touch after using a brow pencil or pomade.

EOS Lip Balm

I love using this lip balm at night before bed and each day under my lipstick.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lip Color in Airy Fairy

This is a gorgeous pinky nude color that looks great with any makeup look.

Let’s share the love, tell everyone your favorite drugstore makeup essentials in the comments of this blog post! Thank you for reading! xx

MAKE YOUR REAL LASHES LOOK LIKE FALSIES | THE PERFECT COMBO

May 22, 2017 & 4 Comments

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope you are starting your week out with a fabulous attitude and are ready to tackle the rest of the week! A fellow YouTuber, Becca Bristow, has fabulous lashes in every video or picture I see of her, and so when she shared her favorite combo I knew I wanted to try it out.

The Perfect Lash Combo

L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Primer

Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof

My Routine

I curl my lashes with my Tarte Cosmetics Perfect Eyelash Curler and then apply a coat of the L’Oeal Voluminous Lash Primer before applying the Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof mascara. I decided to use the waterproof version of the mascara because my preference to use a waterproof mascara to avoid smudging under my eyes. The Maybelline Lash Sensational is a very wet mascara, which I usually only like as a second layer of mascara over another mascara, but I do like this over the L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Primer.

The Result

I really love the results that I can get from these two products, and it’s a gorgeous way to get big, fluttery lashes without wearing falsies. I have worn this several times with only a little black eye liner and no eye shadow, and the look is stunning!  I also like using the primer with other mascaras, and also layering the Maybelline Lash Sensational as a layer with other mascaras.

MY FAVORITE DRUGSTORE LIPSTICK!

October 12, 2016 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I am absolutely loving wearing lipstick right now and while I love liquid lipsticks and stains, right now I have been reaching for good ole fashioned lipsticks. I have lipsticks that I love from both the drugstore and from higher end brands, but today I wanted to share you the one that I love beyond all others. I haven’t tried every lipstick shade from this line (not even close!) but anytime I want a certain shade I turn to this line because they have never steered me wrong. I do use my Homemade DIY Honey Almond Lip Scrub every few days especially as the weather gets cooler. I also love the Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker Tsum Tsum lip balms at night and dabbed on before I apply my lipstick.

MAYBELLINE COLOR SENSATIONAL LIPSTICKS:

SIMPLE BEAUTY FOR SICK DAYS WHEN YOU CAN’T STAY IN BED!

September 28, 2016 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope that you are having a great Wednesday! Cheers to being halfway through the week! I, unfortunately, have a cold that has me extremely thankful for DayQuil at the moment :X So, I thought I would use this as an opportunity to share my go-to beauty tips for when I’m sick but can’t stay in bed.

GO HEAVY ON CONCEALER BUT LIGHT ON FOUNDATION:

Apply a lot of primer to your nose and use a good concealer because when you’re sick your nose tends to look red fast. I like to also go heavy on the under eye concealer, because my under eye circles tend to be worse when I’m sick. I often skip foundation when I’m sick, or use a light mineral or powder foundation because if you’re dehydrated foundation can look cake-y very fast.

BRIGHTEN YOUR COMPLEXION:

I like to use a bronzer with a hint of shimmer to warm up my face. I use a little bit of blush but skip highlighter because I don’t want to draw extra attention to my tired eyes or skin.

NEUTRALIZE YOUR EYES:

I pat a neutral brown color all over my kid or do a very natural look without shimmer when I’m not feeling well that helps cover any redness or unevenness on my lids . I don’t want sparkle or shimmer to draw too much attention to my tired or red eyes. I apply a lot of mascara to my top lashes but just a tiny bit (if any) to my lower lashes to help keep the focus away from my under eye area.

PAMPER YOUR POUT:

Lips can be tricky because if you have a nasty cough, you may want to stick to a simple balm or gloss to avoid a lipstick mess. I like to wear a bright colored lip balm or balm stain because it helps moisturize my lips, it is low maintenance, and it makes my face look brighter and more healthy.

SOME OF MY MAKEUP FAVORITES FOR SICK DAYS:

I hope that you found this post helpful! Hopefully you *won’t* be needing to use these tips, but if you do I hope that they help you function until you can rest and get better!

APRIL BEAUTY FAVORITES!

May 4, 2016 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I haven’t shared beauty favorites in awhile, but I found myself reaching for these things a lot last month and am so excited to share them with you! If you have any questions, ask in the comments and I will definitely get back to you!!

April Favorites:

aprilbeautyfavorites-leahtackles.jpeg

Hair Care:

OGX Nourishing Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum:

This can be used on damp towel dried hair and to add strength and hydration to your hair. I do use this in the ends of my hair before brushing it out after showering, but my favorite way to use it is on the ends of my dry hair to to hide any dry looking ends and add shine to my hair! I especially love to add this to my ends after I curl my hair.

TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo:

This is my go-to dry shampoo because it’s affordable and works well! I like to use this on nights when I don’t wash my hair and apply it liberally to my roots and then work it in with my fingers. If needed when I wake up I use a little more, but usually using it the night before works well for me.

Batise Dry Shampoo in Light & Blonde:

I don’t usually splurge on dry shampoo, but I have to say I really did enjoy this one! Now I do understand what the Batiste hype is about! This one had a blonde tint that I did like for a bit of help concealing roots, too.

Makeup:

Beauty Blender Cleanser Solid:

This looks like a little round bar of soap when you open it up, but I swear it is magic!! You can use a gentle anti-bacterial soap or shampoo to wash your brushes, but this rinses clean so fast that I save so much time when I use it! I also like that it comes with a tiny little cleaning mat to scrub your brushes on. *Tip: You can buy brush cleaning mats, but you can also use a rubber textured cutting board which is usually much cheaper : )

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation in 101 Classic Ivory:

This has taken the place of Revlon ColorStay for my favorite drugstore foundation! Even though this is drugstore, it’s fairly expensive at about $13, but I really think it’s worth it! I like that it comes in a tube, it’s sanitary and easy to get every last drop out. I was a bit hesitate because it says it is a demi-matte finish, but it lasts all day on my oily/combo skin. I do use oil blotting sheets on my nose, but I have to do that midday with any foundation. I am hooked! I like apply this with a stippling brush like the Sigma F50. You can see my favorite ways to apply liquid foundation here.

Esteé Lauder Double Wear Waterproof All Day Extreme Wear Concealer in 1C Light:

I am obsessed with this! I use this on any discoloration and a little goes a long way! It blends out well with a makeup sponge or with my fingers. I also use this on my under eye area and I’ve been very impressed because it doesn’t settle in my fine lines.

Too Faced Sweethearts Baked Luminous Glow Bronzer in Sweat Tea:

Okay, first of all, THE PACKAGING!! It is everything! I love the mint with the brown! Too Faced always knocks it out of the park when it comes to packaging. I love this cool toned bronzer because you can use the colors on their own or mixed together and it’s the perfect bronzer for those like me who try to avoid ones that are too orange or warm toned. It does have shimmer, but it’s subtle and not chunks of glitter.

Too Faced Sweethearts Perfect Flush Blush in Sparkling Bellini:

This is my first blush from this line, but I already want more. I love that it has a bit of shimmer so you can skip a highlight but the shimmer isn’t overpowering. I like to wear the three colors swirled together, but the strips of color are wide enough that you could focus on just one or two of the colors if you wanted to. I think this is perfect for glowy summery cheeks!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette:

I couldn’t not include this! Clearly, this was a big month for Too Faced and I ; ) But this is incredible! I hate to mention it because it has been near impossible to get your hands on this palette, but I had to give it a mention because I’ve been loving it! I like that it has some very nice peachy shades (duh!) but also has neutrals, purples, and even a green so that you’re not limited as much in the looks you can create. It smells like peaches, quite strongly, when you apply it but the scent doesn’t last. If you can find it, I say grab it! Plus, THE PACKAGING!

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow in Alchemy 6D01:

I recently hauled my first ever purchase from ColourPop and this is one of the shadows I picked up. I love this for days when I’m rushing but want to throw something beautiful on my lids! I love applying this with my fingers all over the lid.

Hard Candy Brow Ink in Light Medium:

I can really feel the hold of this and the tip is so tiny that I can use it to lightly dot any spots on my brows that seems sparse. I like starting in the middle of my brow and working my way out before lightly apply a bit to the start of my brow.  *Note: You can find Hard Candy exclusively at Walmart.

NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in Push Up:

I got this in my Swap Box with Stephanie Alexandra and I love it! I want to grab a few more colors from this line because it’s an affordable liquid lipstick that wears very well on me. It is drying, but not so much so that I can’t wear it. I do notice that it breaks down with things like salad dressing (nothing breaks down a lip product faster than something with oil!) but otherwise this lasts through meals for me.

Be sure to tell me what items you have been loving in the comments! I loved doing this post and if you enjoyed it I will definitely try to keep the monthly favorites monthly ; ) Have a wonderful weekend! Please don’t forget to subscribe!!

TOP SINGLE EYE SHADOW PICKS FOR ONE SHADOW LOOKS

October 7, 2015 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I wear makeup most days, and sometimes I only can spend a few minutes on my makeup, so I love having my favorite single eye shadows that I can swipe on my lids for a really easy look. If you have a favorite single shadow, please let me know what it is! I love comments!! ; )

bestsingleeyeshadows-singleeyeshadows-leahtackles.jpeg FullSizeRender (3)

1. M.A.C Paint Pot in Bare Study

This cream shadow makes a gorgeous base for eye shadows, but I also will swipe it on my lids for a super easy look. I have to always have this with me when I travel, too.

2. Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eye Shadow in Inked in Pink

I use this alone on my lids ALL the time! I actually had this on the day before Logan was born, and it survived a drug-free labor ; ) I am planning to buy several more of these before our Disney trip so that I can wear a little makeup but only spend a few minutes doing it.

3. Elf Long-Lasting Lustrous Eyeshadow in Toast

How stunning is this color?! BAM! The texture of these eye shadows remind me of the Bouncy Blushes from Maybelline, and it’s again a very easy, very pigmented eye shadow.

4. L’Oreal Paris 24 Hour Infallible Eye Shadow in Iced Latte

The Infallible shadows are hugely popular, and for good reason! This might be my absolute favorite single shadow, and you can usually find them for buy one get one 50% off.

5. Urban Decay Single Shadow in Free Love

I just hauled this gorgeous metallic-y peach eye shadow in my Big Sephora Haul video, and I have worn it for almost a week straight! I love putting this into my crease with a fluffy brush for a look that looks like you spent a lot of time, but actually only took a minute!

If you liked this style of post, please let me know! I hope that you have a fantastic rest of your week and weekend! xx

Still Can’t Keep Up? 5 Ways to Simplify Your Makeup (Drugstore Edition)

July 27, 2015 & 4 Comments

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I got a positive response from last Wednesday’s post, Can’t Keep Up? 5 Ways to Simplify Your Makeup (High-End Edition), and so today I am sharing my drugstore picks. So, here are the drugstore items I would pick if limited to 5 to get an amazing look!

easymakeup-drugstorepicks-leahtackles.jpeg

1. Revlon ColorStay Makeup For Oily/Combo Skin

This is my favorite drugstore foundation for days when I want a full coverage, flawless look that will not budge. A little goes a very long way, and I like to stipple it on, but a beauty blender or fingers work fine, too. They do have a dry skin version of this, as well as a whipped version.

2.  E.L.F Contouring Blush & Bronzer in St. Lucia

I love this set for traveling because the blush is gorgeous, the bronzer is beautiful and although it is a tad orange, is still usable as a contour color on my fair skin if I use a light hand. This also has a huge mirror, which I think is so handy.

3. Maybelline The Nudes Palette

This is an awesome value, and if you can’t justify an expensive neutrals palette, this is the way to go. I also have The Blushed Nudes Palette from Maybelline which I do love, but this I feel is overall better quality and you can get a bigger range of looks out of this.

4. L’Oréal Lineur Intense Brush Tip Liquid Eye Liner

This is a great liquid liner for everything from a fine line to a big wing. I love the brush tip because it is easy to control, and the color is very dark black.

5. CoverGirl Clump Crusher Mascara

I absolutely always have this mascara on hand! I personally like the water resistant formula. I use this daily! It is always on my bottom lashes, and I like to use this on my top lashes after curling to keep the curl. For more nautral days, I wear this alone, and for more dramtic looks this is a great layering mascara.

Please let me know what your favorite items from the drugstore are in the comments! Commenting is easy (just click by link under the title of each post!) AND it makes my day!! ; )

Have a beautiful week! I will see you Wednesday!
