Milk of Magnesia Primer? Yes? No? My Thoughts!

March 30, 2015 & 1 Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Thank you for stopping by! I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend : ) Mine was jam-packed as always, and lots of fun! But yesterday, it SNOWED! I mean, come on spring! Does anyone else still have snow?

Today I want to talk about using Milk of Magnesia as a primer for oil control because the information out there for this beauty hack is so conflicting. I am keeping it SUPER basic and explaining to the best of my knowledge. So, let’s get into it!

milkofmagnesiaprimer-leahtackles.jpeg

What IS Milk of Magnesia:

Milk of Magnesia can be used as a laxative and an antacid. It its liquid form, it is a white suspension of hydrated magnesium carbonate in water.

Why It Works For Oil Control:

Magnesium carbonate effectively breaks down wax esters (if you took chemistry, you may remember esters which are a chemical compound that break down acids and if you haven’t taken it yet here is a fun preview–haha). So, Milk of Magnesia works as a de-greaser when applied to your skin.

Why You May Not Want To Use It Daily:

To put it simply, it is alkaline. Alkaline means that something has a pH greater than 7. Remember how I said it can be used as an anacid? Well it does the same thing when applied on your face, so it breaks down your skins natural acid which you need to fight off bacteria.

How I Use It As a Primer:

After I put on my moisturizer but before my foundation I apply a tiiiiiny bit on any areas that are oil-prone. Only use a tiny bit, because it is white and will leave a white film. I rub it in really well, and really quickly, and then apply my makeup as usual.

Do I Use It?:

Yes, I use Milk of Magneisa on my face, ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS ONLY! If you have an event, such as a July wedding, to attend and you need your makeup to stay on all day long, I *personally* say go for it! It truly works, and coming from a girl who gets an oily nose or t-zone by noon, when I use this I don’t have to use pressed power at all! I have used this trick probably 5 times in the course of several years. I would LOVE to find a makeup primer that would do this for me everyday, however I am not about to mess with my skins pH levels in that way. I definitely discourage the use of this regularly because it can mess with the chem class going on on yo face, and make you breakout <–nobody wants that!

*Note: I am *NOT* a dermotologist, I am just a girl who heard a tip a few years ago and has used it on a few occasions.

I hope that this was helpful and that you enjoyed it! I have a few more beauty tricks that I use on occasion up my sleeve, so stay tuned for that! We can turn this into a little series : ) Who doesn’t want to get those awful sunless tanner faux pas hands clean?

Tell me your favorite beauty tips in the comments below! And if you get oily, especially in the upcoming (I hope they’re coming..!) summer months, what is your favorite way to fight it? I would, as always, LOVE to hear from you!!

Be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already, every single subscriber means so much to me! Thanks loves!

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

And, I got my hair fixed!! WOOOOO! I had Stephan snap a few pictures for all of you when I got home, it isn’t the best lighting so please excuse that.

I Did WHAT to My Hair?!

March 9, 2015 & 6 Comments

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Today I want to do something a little bit different and just talk to you and maybe have a conversation in the comments. I was going to reveal my new hair to all of you, but that’s NOT happening, unfortunately. For the first time ever I had to sit in a chair at a salon that I will not name for the big “reveal” after a cut, color, and highlight and fake a small smile while I panicked trying to find the right words to tell my stylist, who I will also not name, who I have known for several years, that I was unhappy. YIKES!

Okay, let’s stop here…who here has had what I mentioned above happen on some way or another at a salon? Let me know if you’ve ever been there! Hopefully you haven’t, because again, YIKES!

I was proud of myself for at least not gushing “I love it! It’s perfect” like would have been easy to do, and like she seemed to expect. And, to be fair, I have always said that and meant it in the past. Now, I ABSOLUTELY REALIZE that hair coloring isn’t always easy and that there are lots of things to consider that I don’t understand because I am not a hair stylist. I know that my stylist was trying to do a good job and give me beautiful color. I do think that it was a situation where she *probably* could tell that I didn’t like it, and of course was trying to talk it up as anyone would, but it’s just so far from what I wanted. And she said maybe it was the lighting, but oh no no it wasn’t the lighting.

What did you do if you saw that you didn’t like it?

I could only muster that I was a little shocked and that I thought I needed some time to get used to it. Fast forward to me in my car and I start crying! Big sobs! I texted my husband and then decided I had to tell my stylist.

If this has happened to you, what did you do? Nothing? Cry in the chair? Demand a refund? Call or text your stylist or salon?

I was in a slightly different situation than is probably typical in that I have known my stylist for years and had lunch with her socially, so I texted her. I considered calling her, but I thought that both of us would apprecaite being able to think for a second about what we wanted to say and I knew it was the only way I would be able to say how I really felt, nicely, without being *too* nice and pretending it was okay. It wasn’t okay. I was sobbing nasty mascara running sobs in my car.

So, I got brave and texted her a long rambling text (sort of like this post! hah!) saying that I had never felt this way after having her color it before and felt awful but I just wasn’t happy at all with my hair. My stylist was, as I expected, SUPER nice, told me not to apologize and that she would get me in this week to fix it.

So, I will definitely be doing a follow up post but today I just wanted to keep it real and talk about a moment that wasn’t Instagram picture perfect. Please tell me if you’ve ever had this happen OR what you would do if this happened to you.

I have some fun hauls coming up because my birthday is this week so stay tuned!!Thank you SO much for reading and give me the best birhday gift and LeahTackles.com anniversary gift by subscribing if you haven’t already. If you have already subscribed, thank you! I love you! And please share : )

My Birthday Wishlist

March 4, 2015 & 2 Comments

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Thank you for reading! I debated sharing this post because I absolutely realize that I’m not 7 and a wishlist may seem silly or selfish, but I promise I’m not sending it off to any grandparents or aunts ; ) I just want to share some items that I’ve been loving! Also, LeahTackles.com is almost 1!! On my birthday, March 12th, it will be 1 year since this little blog went live!! So, I do plan to share my goals for myself and for LeahTackles.com next week.

mybirthdaywishlist-leahtackles-beautyblog.jpeg

M.A.C Lipsticks:

I own a few things from M.A.C, but really only old standbys, and want to expand my lipstick collection! Tell me your favorite M.A.C lipsticks in the comments!!

Cover FX Contour Kit:

I love contouring and would love to try a cream contour kit! I’ve heard this one blends like a dream.

Rebecca Minkoff Julian Backpack:

I’ve touched on the fact that as a mom with young kids I don’t often carry a purse, and I miss handbag shopping! I haven’t seen the point in buying a purse lately, because with the exception of date nights I don’t get to carry them, but a backpack purse?! That I can do! I think this would be amazing for day-long outings with or without the kiddos. They also have a gorgeous version at Target  that I saw in-store that’s only $30!

Have a wonderful weekend!! I love you all!

Products I’ve Used Up?! February/March 2015 Empties!

March 2, 2015 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! And as always, thank you so much for being here!

In mid February I shared an empties post with you, and that was only half of what I had been collecting in my closet for you all to see! Today I will share the rest : ) I love reading these posts because it’s a great way to get a quick idea about a persons thoughts on a product and if they would repurchase.

February/March Empties:

productsiveusedup-emptiespost-leahtackles.jpeg

Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circles Eraser Concealer in Light:

I love these under eye concealers! I have had Light, Fair, and the Brightener shade is the one I now repurchase.

Maybelline Age Rewind Dark Circles Eraser Concealer in Brightener:

I love love love this! I have REALLY bad dark circles and this salmon-y pink really helps combat them! On days when I really want to hide them I use this first and then another under eye concealer on top of this. I put this under my eyes in a large triangle and then pat it in with my Sigma F-86.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation in 110 Ivory:

This is one of my favorites, if not my absolute favorite, drugstore foundations! This is a medium to full coverage foundation that doesn’t feel heavy on the skin but stays in place all day on my combo/oily skin! I need to repurchase this becaue I love it on days when I want a flawless look but don’t want to use my more expensive foundations.

Esteé Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation:

This is my favorite foundation of all time! This was repurcahsed before I ran out. THE BEST. And, there is a huge color range so there should be a color out there for everybody which is fantastic!

Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer:

This is just an itty bitty sample that came with my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette but it lasted me quite a long time. I really enjoyed this and would definitely consider buying it in the future, but it is quite pricy. I love that it has SPF in it.

Benefit Cosmetics Pore Fessional Primer:

I love this primer! I already have another one.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Soft Brown:

This is my favorite brow product and I continue to repurchase!

Neutrogena Make-Up Remover Cleansing Towelettes:

This is just a mini travel sized one but I love these! I remove my eye make-up and then use these to remove my other make up before cleansing at night. I repurchase these all the time!

Skyn Iceland Glacial Cleansing Cloths:

I got these in my Ipsy Glam Bag and I did enjoy them. I like these because they were very wet and removed my make-up well, but will not go out of my way to get these again.

Pureology Serious Colour Care Pure Volume Shampoo:

I love Pureology shampoo and condioner! I have had this FOREVER and am sad to see it go! I would purchase Pureology shampoo in the future.

Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy Total Care Nourishing Shampoo:

I think the Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy Shampoo is such an amazing drugstore find! I love this stuff and will buy it again.

TRESemmé Volumizing Dry Shampoo:

This is my go-to drugstore dry shampoo! I buy this over and over.

Salon Grafix Invisible Dry Shampoo Spray:

This was just a small travel size that I used while at the hospital when Logan was born. I finished this up and it was nice but I wouldn’t go out of my way to repurchase this over my other dry shampoo favorites.

Redkin Wax Blast 10 Hairspray:

This was Stephan’s and he used this when his hair was a bit longer. He said he liked it and it smelled good and he would consider repurchasing it.

Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Volume Shine Hairspray:

I *love* this hairspray SOMUCH! This was a sample size from my Ipsy Glam Bag, but I will definitely be picking up a full size! I loved using this when I curled my hair especially!

Got2b Guardian Angel Gloss Finish Flat Iron Balm Heat Protectant:

I really like this and would repurchase it! This lasted me a long time because I don’t straighen my hair too often but it worked perfectly! And, such a great price point!

Yes to Tomatoes Clear Skin Daily Balancing Moisturizer:

I love this moisturizer! It is a gentle but really does keep my skin clear and calm. This costs about $13 and I have bought this several times.

ACT Total Care Mouthwash Sensitive Formula:

I love ACT Total Care mouthwash and always repurchase. I don’t always buy the sensitive formula, but did so while I was pregnant.

Plackers Micro Mint Dental Flossers:

I love these! I floss my teeth two, sometimes three times a day and these are my favorite floss picks. I have heard that this is less clean than using a string of floss because you are putting the same piece in and out of all of your teeth, but this is what works for me as far as flossing!

Orajel Training Toothpaste:

We use these for Connor, who just turned 2, but have moved Hailey to regular kids toothpaste with fluoride because she can now reliably spit it out.

Colgate 360 Toothbrush:

These are the only toothbrushes I buy! Stephan and I both love them, and until I find my perfect electric toothbrush (please leave suggestions in the comments if you have a favorite!) I will keep buying these.

What products have you been using lately? What things do you buy over and over? Have you had any major product flops lately? I would love to hear about them!

I hope that you have a wonderful week! Don’t forget to pop in Wednesday for another post from me : ) LeahTackles.com is almost 1 year old and I would love to have you share this if you’ve found it helpful, interesting, fun, or enjoyable! The links below make it super easy to share, and you can subscribe by entering your email in the box on the right!! THANK YOU! XX

Ipsy Glam Bag February 2015!

February 25, 2015 & 2 Comments

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Thank you for being here!

Today I want to share my Ipsy bag for February 2015! If you don’t know, Ipsy Glam Bag is a $10/month subscription where you get 4-5 deluxe size samples or sometimes full size products in makeup, hair, nails, and skincare. Do you subscribe to Ipsy? I would love to hear about what you thought of your bag this month!! I don’t look at spoilers, I love the surprise everytime I get subscription bag/box mail, but I do love seeing the other variations people got once I’ve opened mine. Do you check spoilers? Is that why you’re here?! ; )

February Ipsy Glam Bag:

februaryipsyglambagreview-leahtackles.jpeg

Bag and Theme:

I like this bag, it’s very cute and will fit a few items nicely for long day trips or tucking some essentials into my diaper bag (p.s I miss purses!! ; ) ) The theme “Love is just a word…until you find someone to give it meaning” is cute.

Model Co. Blush Cheek Powder in Cosmopolitan 01:

modelcoblushcosmopolitan-leahtackles.jpeg

This is my favorite item in the bag by far! I love blush and this classic pink color is so pretty!

City Color Cosmetics Cream Lip Stain in Flirtini:

citycolorcosmeticslipstainflirtini-leahtackles.jpeg

It needs to be said: This packaging is awful! Seriously, not cute! Not even a little bit. I appreciate pretty packaging, but don’t consider myself a packaging snob, but this crosses the line for me! It also has an odd smell, not strong enough that it would stop me from wearing it, but something to be aware of. I will say that I tried it and really enjoyed the color and found that it did stain my lips pretty nicely. If you’re watching this season of The Bachelor, it reminds me of Brit’s famous pout.

Eva NYC Up All Night Volumizing Spray:

I haven’t tried this yet because mine leaked everywhere unfortunately : ( I have never had leaked items before and this month I had one in both my February PopSugar Must Have Box and my Ipsy! Ipsy responded almost immiedately to my email and they are replacing this item and my bag because it was all wet.

Emite Make Up Professional Eye Lash Curler:

Ipsy sent out an email saying that some of these were defective, and while mine wasn’t I don’t want to take any chances! I love my lashes, thank you very much! I don’t need an eyelash curler breaking them off! I love my Tarte curler and doubt this would have beat that for me anyways. It was nice they emailed everyone and showed pictures to identify a defective curler, though.

Mitchell and Peach Flora No. 1 Fine Radiance Face Oil:

I love this! It feels wonderful and doesn’t make my combo/oily skin feel greasy at all. A very nice face oil! I would consider purchasing this one!

Overall, I am not thrilled with the bag, but I don’t hate it either. Let’s hope March is a better month for my *BIRTHDAY* month : ) Do you subscribe to Ipsy? Did you like your bag this month? If you’d like to subscribe you can do so by clicking here!

Thank you for reading and supporting my blog! Please don’t forget to subscribe and share!! Have a great weekend!

POPSUGAR MUST HAVE BOX FEBRUARY 2015!

February 23, 2015 & 1 Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Thank you for being here and making me part of your day : ) Today I want to share my PopSugar Must Have Box for February with you. Once again I am disappointed with the shipping :/ It wasn’t AS bad as last month, but I got this box several days after a friend who lives in the same state, and after Valentine’s Day which this box was strongly themed around. With that said, I LOVELOVELOVE this months box, and will still use every single item, but I wish the shipping would improve to how it was a year or so ago. I have been subscribed for 26 months and shipping has seemingly gone downhill. So, the dates of delivery really seem to vary, but *usually* the PopSugar box usually arrives between the 10th-15th of every month for me…it ships from California via FedEx Smart Post, which means it goes out FedEx but arrives to my P.O Box.

If you don’t know, the box contains full size, premium quality items in all different categories: food, beauty, fashion, home, and sometimes an extra goodie too! Each box boasts a retail total of $100 or more. You can check out my review of the PopSugar Must Have Box for January 2015 here.

The February box was inspried by, “One Love, Hearts & Arrows, Red Hot, Devine Desserts, and Pampering”  (a.k.a Valentine’s Day ; ) ) …ummm yes please!!

February Must Have Box:

*Note: Rose Water Bubble Bath by U.S Apothecary NOT shown because it arrived (very) damaged

Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush by Tarte Cosmetics in  True Love:

amazonianclayblushtruelove-popsugarmusthavereview-leahtackles.jpeg

I was instantly over-the-moon excited by this box when I saw this! Obviously, I reeeeally love makeup, and Tarte is an amazing brand! I own a holiday blush palette from Tarte, but until now did not own any of the individual Amazonian Clay blushes. I love this shade, and it wears beautifully for a very natural flush that can be built up as needed. It is great that just a tiny tap into this is all you need because it is so highly pigmented, and this could be worn on many skintones.

$26

Rose Water Bubble Bath by U.S Apothecary:

IMG_4349 usapothecaryrosewaterbubblebath-popsugar-leahtackles.jpeg

This was a huge letdown because mine was broken : ( It leaked badly and my whole box smelled strongly of roses, but thankfully it didn’t damage my other items except the burlap bag that the next item was in. I appreciate that PopSugar always is sure to wrap items like this incase this happens, but I was still bummed! I contacted PopSugar first by email, but then recieved a much faster response by reaching out on social media. I have had two or three other issues over the course of 26 months, and always get excellent customer service once I get ahold of someone at PopSugar. If this happens to you I suggest sending a *nice* tweet to @MustHaveSupport or a Facebook message to the PopSugar Must Have Facebook page. I look forward to trying this when I get my replacement!

$30

Bamboo Heart Cutting Board & Cheese Knife by ACME Party Box Company:

I swoon over the ACME Party Box Company website, they have fantastic but fairly pricy gift ideas for everyone, and things themed for any party or celebration you could imagine! I love making little cheese and snack platters to make a night of Netflix with Stephan a little more special, so this is perfect for that! I love that this came with a little cheese knife, too!

Mini Arrow Pendant Necklace by Bauble Bar:

baublebararrownecklace-popsugarmusthave-leahtackles.jpeg

Just like the Tarte blush, I was estatic when I saw something from Bauble Bar! I adore Bauble Bar jewelry! This little arrow necklace so dainty and cute! I think this would be adorable layered with other small necklaces, or worn alone. You can wear it at two different lengths, and I found that it laid better on the shorter length for me. This is definitely a new favorite for me, and my 3 year old Hailey gave it her nod of approval as well ; )

$32

100% Natutral Blam by Figs & Rouge in Lemon Berry:

figandrouge-lipbalm-leahtackles.jpeg

This has such cute packaging! I really like the ever ever so slight tint and feel of this. Although I love the look of a tin style balm, I don’t like dipping my finger into it unless I have something to immediately wipe my finger off on, so I end up using balms like this less than ones in tube form. I also feel like they are less sanitary. I really like the Lemon Berry color/flavor that I got, but if you’re subscribed what kind did you get? Leave me a comment and let me know, I love hearing what other variations people received!! : )

$8

Ravishing Rocky Road Bar by Chuao Chocolatier:

chuaochocolatier-popsugarmusthave-leahtackles.jpeg

OH MY GOSH YUM!!! Salted, caramelized almonds, and marshmallows in all-natural milk chocolate? Yes, yes, yes!! This is soooo good! I was really sad when it was gone! And Steph, who isn’t a big sweets or milk chocolate fan typically, also really enjoyed the small piece I shared ; ) I think these would be awesome as a gift add-on, or a sweet thing to send to a friend or loved one…maybe a Galentine!

$6

FingerPaints Nail Color by Sally Beauty in Romanticism Ruby:

This is a special extra and what a fun one! I love nail polish, and this is a brand I’ve never tried, so I can’t wait to try something new. I think Romanticism Ruby will be a great toe color! If you’re a PopSugar subscriber, what color did you get?

$5.50

I am THRILLED with the items in this months box, but I am frustrated with the shipping and my broken item as well. I hope that PopSugar can turn it around quickly so that I can start enjoying my box and sharing with all of you in a timely manner. This box has a retail value of $139.50 which is $100 more than the cost of the box. It really is like Christmas every month! Do you subscribe to PopSugar? What did you think about this box? Let me know in the comments! If you’d like more information on PopSugar you can find it here.

Have a great Monday!! XO

Products I’ve Up?! February Empties!

February 18, 2015 & 1 Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I have been saving all of my empty beauty and tolietries in a basket in my closet again so that I could share an empties post with you! I will have another empties post coming soon where I share a ton of makeup and haircare empties…so stay tuned for that! I love reading these types of post and watching these types of videos because 1) It’s helpful to hear if people would repurchase or not and a quick mini review, and 2) Let’s be honest, isn’t everyone just a *tiny* bit nosy?! I know I absolutely am ; ) It’s fun to see!

February Empties:

februaryempties-productsiveusedup-leahtackles.jpeg

Dove Clinical Protection Deoderant in Clear Tone:

I purchase this over and over! I love the peace of mind of the clinical strength in the warmer months, and while I probably don’t *need* it in the winter, I still really like it.

Soft Soap Orchid Petals & Mint Water Liquid Hand Soap:

This is a new line of liquid hand soaps from Soft Soap and I bought it solely because of the more attractive bottle! Yes, I know that you can buy refillable bottles which I’ve done in the past, but I also like these. Nothing magical, but served its purpose and I would repurchase.

Kleenex Hand Towels:

I use these to dry off my face after cleansing because it is more sanitary than using your towel. If you don’t want to use something like this, you can also use a clean washcloth, but you shouldn’t just use your regular bath towel! These come in packs of 60 which is nice because it lasts about a month if you use one in the morning and one at night.

Q-tips Cotton Swabs:

This is a funny one to include but I am going to because Stephan and I are picky about our cotton swabs! We have purchased other brands where the stick inbetween is flimsy and you just don’t get as good of a clean, so now I just use those for eye makeup fixes! Don’t mess with our Q-tips! ; )

Philosophy Purity One-Step Facial Cleanser:

This is without a doubt my favorite cleanser!! I only need the tiniest dab, and it works perfectly with just my fingers or with my Clairsonic. I will buy this over and over again! You can find large sizes on QVC for a great price.

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Massage Lotion for Stretch Marks:

I liked this for my baby bump, but I prefered a Burt’s Bees Oil that I will talk about next…

Burt’s Bees Mama Oil Nourishing Body Oil:

I love this stuff! Typically an oil wouldn’t sound appealing to me over a lotion, but this rubbed in quickly and I could slather it in all of the stretch mark prone areas FAST which I loved! It also has a really nice small and absorbed fairly quickly.

Olay Quench Body Lotion Ultra Moisture with Shea Butter:

This was just a small travel size that I had in my hospital bag when Logan was born. I didn’t use enough to know if it was something special, but my skin didn’t dry out during our hospital stay, which could be thanks to this lotion.

Clean & Clear Deep Action Cream Cleanser:

This was also purchased just for the hospital bag, but I LOVED it! I am not sure if it was because I hadn’t used a strong/acne fighting face wash during my pregnancy and that made it feel more fantastic, but I was sad when this little guy ran out! I would definitely purchase again! My skin felt *super* clean after using it, but it didn’t feel uncomfortably tight or dry like some acne face washes can make my face feel.

Mederma for Kids:

This isn’t a “true empty” because this is just the box and we are still using the cream, but I wanted to include it because we love this stuff! As you know I have 3 kids 3 1/2 and under…so bumps & bruises are bound to happen! In September I had my first ER experience as a mom and it was because Connor had cut his forehead open! It was a nasty cut, but this has helped the scar SO MUCH! We have used this faithfully and I can tell such a huge difference. I would absolutely buy this again.

Bath and Body Works Body Lotion in Mad About You:

I like the Bath and Body Works lotions only as much as I’d like any lotion from the drugstore…I just don’t think they’re that fabulous minus the great fragrance. I *do* love the Bath and Body works body butters and body creams. This scent is very spring-y and floral but has a slight vanilla musk that keeps it from being too much. I used this completely and enjoyed it, but it wouldn’t be my first scent choice.

Bath and Body Works Body Lotion in Endless Weekend:

I love this scent!! It is a mix of floral, fruit, coconut….yum! I realy enjoyed using this scent in the dreary winter months! I would purchase this scent again.

Bath and Body Works Body Butter in Beautiful Day:

I absolutely LOVE these body butters! A little bit goes a really long way and they feel awesome on the skin! This has a very fruity and floral combo that makes me think spring and I do like this scent.

What products will you purchase over and over again? Let me know in the commens! Thank you as always for reading and please subscribe if you’re new! I post every Monday and Wednesday, and throw in the occasional “Bonus Post” : )

Rodan + Fields Skincare Review

February 9, 2015 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Over the past few weeks I have been testing out some skincare items from the company Rodan + Fields. If the name sounds familiar to you, that’s because it is developed by the same doctors who brought us ProActiv Solution years ago. The Rodan + Fields line was a top seller in department stores like Bloomingdales and Nordstrom, but the creators decided to pull the line when they realized that most of the people purchasing Rodan + Fields were learning about it via word-of-mouth. Now Rodan + Fields products are sold like MaryKay on a direct sales format.

This product was sent to me, but as always I will never accept money in exchange for a positive review! All of the thoughts are my own, and if I am sent a product that I do not like I will either not talk about it at all, or tell you what I thought! I want to be a reliable source for you, and I do my best!

Initial Thoughts On the Company:

There are SOOO MANY direct sale lines out right now…jewelry, tupperware, skincare, makeup, unmentionables…you name it! And sometimes I’ll admit that I roll my eyes when I hear about yet another one, but skincare is something I’m caring about more and more as I get older, and I loved right off the bat the many different options for all skin types and ages that Rodan + Fields offers. I then started reading other peoples reviews and the company history, and decided it was worth another look.

About My Skin:

Firstly it should be stated that pregnancy can absolutely change the way your skin behaves, and after pregnancy the horomone changes can make your skin react crazy as well! I was very lucky to have great (for me) skin during Logan’s pregnancy, and have had a few breakouts since his birth but so far it’s been (knock on wood) manageable. I am in that funky phase where I still get oily on my t-zone, my nose especially, but I’m also battling fine lines and wrinkles now that I’m approaching my late 20’s (I am 27 for another 5 weeks & I’m hanging onto that counting as mid 20’s!)

ENHANCEMENTS MICRO-DERMABRASION PASTE:

This is far and away my favorite of the 3 products I tried! I absolutely adore this! A little goes a long way, and I immediately noticed a beautiful glow and improved texture. You can use this without water for a more heavy exfoliation (my prefered way, 3 times/week) or use it with water for a more gentle approach. If you can only try one item from Rodan + Fields, this is far and away the star for me of the 3 I sampled! This did not cause breakouts or inflamation, but with that said my skin handles even professional in-spa micro-dermabrasion treatments without issue.

REDEFINE NIGHT RENEWING SERUM:

This made my skin feel like silk immediately after application! I noticed that my makeup applied beautifully the next day as well.  I did find that my skin felt a tad dry after, so I followed the optional direction of using a tad of moisturizer after applying this.  I loved the way it made my skin feel, and I would love to try using it in the future, but because I only had a small sample I am not sure if it would be holy grail status for me or not. But did I enjoy it? Absolutely!

REDEFINE LIP RENEWING SERUM:

I have talked quite a bite recently about how horribly dry my lips have been! I haven’t worn lipstick, with the exception of Christmas parties, in months! At first I wasn’t sure if I liked this any better than my regular chapsticks, but after using this consistently for several days in a row I noticed that my lips felt very soft and as crazy as it sounds they looked a bit more naturaly red or rosy but without the uncomfortable sting/ tingle that some lip plumping products have. This is pricy, but I do think that is works. I would buy this in the future and think it would be fabulous to use leading up to a big event! And hello, wedding season is fast approaching!

 TO ORDER:

Kristy Ownby made me feel *totally* comfortable discussing my skincare concerns and target areas, and was very informative to all of my questions! If I’m reviewing something for you guys, I make it really clear that I am going to ask alllll sorts of stuff, and she was up to the challenge. In talking with Kristy I have found a few other items that I am super tempted to try! She mentioned that the Pore Minimizing Toner is like spanx for your face…umm hello that sounds RIGHT up my ally! And the Redefine Cleansing Mask which should combat any oil..anyone who gets oily knows that anything that can stop that must be tried!
