DR. BRANDT MICRODERMABRASION VS. POREDERMABRASION- WHICH IS BETTER?

September 25, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you had a great weekend! Saying we are having an “unseasonably warm” September is an understatement and that combined with the day-to-day stressors means that my skin hasn’t been very happy with me. Last week I did a post about Dr. Brand Microdermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator, and today I decided to share my thoughts on how Dr. Brand PoreDermabrasion compares.

What It Claims

Dr. Brandt Poredermabrasion is suitable for normal, combo, or oily skin. The PoreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator works to help with dullness, uneven skin, oily skin, and large pores. .This exfoliator works to cleanse pores while it strengthens and tightens the look of pores. This exfoliator is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.

My Thoughts

The physical exfoliator contains the same pharmaceutical grade aluminum crystal and feels very similar in consistency as the Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion. The lime extract and salicylic acid make the exfoliator feel a bit more rough on the skin, and I did notice that my skin tingled but it wasn’t uncomfortable. I find the PoreDermabrasion to be very comparable to the Microdermabrasion, but would suggest the PoreDermabrasion for those with very oily skin. If you have normal skin, sensitive skin, or dry skin I would go with the Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion.

My Routine

After removing my makeup I lightly dampen my skin with warm water and then use this exfoliating scrub in circular motions all over my face. *Note: I focus on my nose, chin, and cheeks and try to not get too close to the delicate eye area.

DR. BRANDT MICRODERMABRASION AGE DEFYING EXFOLIATOR

September 20, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope that you are having a great week so far, and thank you for taking time to read my blog!

I have used the Dr. Brandt Pores No More and so when I received a deluxe size sample of the Dr. Brandt Mirceodermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator I was excited to try it out.

What It Claims

The Microdermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator works for all skin types. It is an exfoliating scrub that can help with dull skin and uneven skin. It can help minimize fine lines and wrinkles. The Sephora website also states that it can be a solution for blemishes.
The formula contains aluminum oxide crystals, lactic acid, and soothing botanicals to buff away dead skin, give you glowing skin, and a more even skin texture.

Ingredient Information
This product is free of both sulfates and phthalates.

My Thoughts

I use a PMD Personal Microdermabrasion System at home once a week, but I really like having an exfoliating scrub to rub over my face, especially my nose and chin, when I need a deep clean. I noticed that this scrub is very fine, and that felt really nice on the skin, and didn’t irritate but was still very effective in cleaning out my pores. My face felt so clean after using this and my skin was glowing! I immediately asked my husband to try some on his noses, and he noticed his pores looked and felt cleaner right away. This product is expensive, but it is definitely my favorite exfoliating scrub that I have tried.

My Routine

After removing my makeup I lightly dampen my skin with warm water and then use this exfoliating scrub in circular motions all over my face. *Note: I focus on my nose, chin, and cheeks and try to not get too close to the delicate eye area.

PRIMED & PEACHY COOLING MATTE PERFECTING PRIMER REVIEW

September 18, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you are ready to have a fantastic week! The Too Faced Peaches & Cream Collection launch features adorable packaging but I resisted purchasing because I have so many palettes from Too Faced that I wasn’t too intrigued. However, I recently received a deluxe size sample of the Primed & Peachy Cooling Matte Perfecting Primer and wanted to share my thoughts with you.

What It Claims

This Sephora website (the Peaches & Cream Collection from Too Faced Cosmetics is exclusive to Sephora) says this primer is cooling, mattifying, it blurs, smooths, and brightens the complexion. This primer has a comfort matte technology, this Primed & Peachy formula delivers a mattifying, soft-focused finish with light and comfortable feel. This says it will control shine for up to 12 hours and will last on the skin for up to sixteen hours.

My Thoughts

This primer has a nice but a bit artificial peachy smell that reminds me of peach rings and I definitely noticed a cooling feel that was refreshing when I applied it to my skin. I like the way this kept my oily skin matte, but I didn’t find it to fill and blur my pores as well as the Benefit Porefessional with certain foundations that tend to settle into my pores. I do think this is very lightweight and refreshing to wear, and it is now high up on my list of favorite primers, but it can’t touch my “holy grail” Benefit Porefessional.

My Routine

I cleanse my face with Purity by Philosophy, tone with my Sea Breeze Astringent, use my Esteé Lauder SPF 25 DayWear, and apply First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Mattifying Gel Moisturizer.

HOW TO CREATE SLIGHT WAVES WITH A LARGE CURLING IRON

September 13, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope that you are having a fantastic week! School started for my oldest last week along with a lot of her activities, and my middle guy starts school next week, so I am finding myself crunched for time in the mornings so I have been wearing quick simple waves that I wanted to share with you.

The Look

My Routine

I like to wear this style on second-day hair, but also wear it with clean hair that I’ve washed the night before and let air dry. If you wash your hair in the mornings, just be sure that your hair is completely dry before you begin. I divide my hair in half and put it on either side of my head and then spray my hair with a heat protectant (I like this one). I hold the Hot Tools 1 1/2 Inch Iron in the hand of whatever side I am curling and turn the iron away from my face in 1 1/2-2 inch sections starting at the back and working front. I hold the iron on my hair for about 20 seconds and then release the clamp and remove it from the hair slowly. Don’t worry too much about the size of the sections. When I finish one side I spray with my favorite hairspray and then do the exact same thing on the other.

HOW-TO FAKE FULL LIPS

September 11, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

On most days I stick with minimal, natural makeup and a simple lip color but I wear a full face of makeup for filming most of my YouTube videos. I love playing with different makeup looks, and one of my favorite lipstick combos for filming gives me a very full lip look without any filler or plumping products.

The Look

My Routine

I always use a dab of lip balm (I love this EOS lip balm) before I apply my lip color. I then line my lips going just outside the natural line of my upper lip and along the line of the lower lip (though you can feel free to overline the entire lip). I then put a thin layer of the NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick on and let it dry down before applying the Kylie Cosmetics Metal Liquid Lipstick. *Tip: I always scrap off an excess from the lipstick applicator and apply a very thin coat to avoid the liquid lipstick over drying or flaking!

CLOTHING SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE | NADINE WEST OUTFIT SUBSCRIPTION REVIEW

September 6, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope that you are having a great week! Subscription boxes are still hugely popular, and I have been noticing clothing subscription services gaining a lot more traction. Nadine West reached out to me and sent me this box for my consideration for review but I was not paid to write this post and as always all opinions are my own.

What is Nadine West?

NadineWest.com is a company that sends you an outfit to try on and you keep only what you love. The outfit is a surprise, but you take a style quiz and the stylists get to know your style more each month. The outfits are affordable with pieces costing about $10-$30 each, which is very affordable compared to other similar services.

How Does It Work?

On the Nadine West website, you take the style quiz so that the stylist can get to know what you are looking for in an outfit. You will receive a pink package in the mail with your personalized outfit. Try on the outfit and keep what you love and send back what you don’t.

My Thoughts

The style quiz was super easy to do, which was great because I wanted something that didn’t take too much time but I was still able to make notes to make sure the stylist knew my preferences. I really loved the surprise aspect of this, and it was like opening up a girly gift from a really stylish friend. I cannot stand having to return things, it is such a bummer, but I LOVE the way this company does it because your outfit comes with return shipping.

Save Some Money!

Use the referral code “Nadine” on NadineWest.com (not an affiliate code for me, just sharing the one they currently have on their website) to waive your shipping fee which means you’ll get your outfit in the mail without paying anything!

My Outfit

Did I keep it?

YES! I absolutely love that sherbert orange color, and the pearl studs are very much my style. I would not have picked the floral skirt out for myself, but I ended up really liking the way it looked on, but now I will have to remind myself to wear it! The bracelet works really well with a lot of the bracelets I like to wear stacked together like my Alex & Ani, so it will likely get a lot of wear.

Have you tried any fashion boxes like this? Have you tried Nadine West? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Bumble and Bumble Pret-a-Powder Tres Invisible Dry Shampoo Review

September 4, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday! And Happy Labor Day!

I am such a huge fan of dry shampoo that I am constantly on the hunt for my *perfect* dry shampoo. I recently did a post on the L’Oreal Extraordinary Clay Dry Shampoo and also my Are You Using Dry Shampoo the Wrong Way? post.

I recently joined Influenster and was sent a complimentary VoxBox with the new Bumble and Bumble Prêt-a-Powder Trés Invisible Dry Shampoo for review purposes.

What It Claims

This dry shampoo is UV protective, 2-in-1 style extender that says it will cleanse and volumize the hair from root to ends for normal to oily hair.

My Thoughts

I am noticing a “clay” trend with dry shampoos, anyone else? But, so far I have loved both that I have tried! I LOVE that this is UV protective because I try to be very careful in the sun, especially with my blonde color treated hair because I don’t want to dry it out. I love that I can spray this (and some days I spray quite a lot…) without having any white cast. When I spray this it initially looks a bit wet if I spray a lot in one spot, but quickly drys and absorbs the oil leaving no trace of wetness or residue. This doesn’t make my scalp feel itchy or like I have product in it, which I really love. This has a great slightly floral scent that is a little strong when first sprayed, but not so much that I find it bothersome.

My Routine

I use my dry shampoo routine that I posted about here.

HOW-TO PREVENT BLISTERS IN HEELS

August 28, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I love wearing a gorgeous pair of heels, but I have definitely been that girl hobbling by the end of the night because my feet her so much because of blisters. I also never found the band-aid “fix” to do much of anything to help, so I have tested out a lot of products and wanted to share my go-to with you.

Band-Aid Friction Block Stick

This provides lubrication which when applied to blister “hot spots” can reduce the friction, a.k.a stop the blisters from forming. If you don’t have the Band-Aid Friction Block Stick you can also use anti-chaffing products like BodyGlide or even a stick antiperspirant. This stuff lasts forever, I’ve had one stick for well over a year and it has a lot left to use.  I love the Band-Aid Friction Block Stick because it is so tiny (it fits in the palm of my hand!) and I can always have it in my bag for heel-mergencies.

My Routine

I always do my best to buy shoes that fit, seriously don’t try to squeeze into shoes that don’t fit because you’ll regret it an hour into wearing them. I also try to break in my heels for a bit at home before wearing them out. I apply the Band-Aid Friction Block Stick to dry feet a few minutes before slipping on my heels (or any shoes I feel that are prone to rubbing).

L’OREAL EXTRAODINARY CLAY DRY SHAMPOO REVIEW

August 23, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope that you are having a fabulous week so far!

I am a dry shampoo addict, and I recently tried the L’Oreal Extraordinary Clay Dry Shampoo and wanted to share my thoughts with you.

WHAT IT CLAIMS

This dry shampoo claims, like all dry shampoos, to extend the freshness between actual hair washing/shampoos. This dry shampoo contains 3 refined clays that are supposed to instantly refresh your hair, absorb oil, and have no visual residue.

MY THOUGHTS

This dry shampoo definitely helped my hair feel instantly refreshed. I also didn’t notice any visual residue, but as a blonde it can be a little harder for me to gauge that. I also think this is the best smelling dry shampoo EVER! It smells so clean, and actually smells like shampoo, and it wasn’t overpowering. I didn’t notice anything that drastically different about this dry shampoo to rank it higher or lower than my favorite dry shampoo standby (shop my holy grail dry shampoo here), but I really am enjoying this and will definitely purchase it again in the future.

MY ROUTINE

I shared my dry shampoo haircare routine in my post Are You Using Dry Shampoo the Wrong Way?
