NADINE WEST REVIEW | AFFORDABLE CLOTHING SUBSCRIPTION BOX

August 6, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you are having a great start to a fresh week : ) I have shared my outfits from Nadine West before on my blog (read the posts here) I have been wearing some items from my last several boxes a lot lately, so I was so excited to receive a new box in the mail from them. Nadine West sent me this box for my consideration for review but I was not paid to write this post and as always all opinions are my own.

What is Nadine West?

NadineWest.com is a company that sends you an outfit to try on and you keep only what you love. The outfit is a surprise, but you take a style quiz and the stylists get to know your style more each month. The outfits are affordable with pieces costing about $10-$30 each, which is very affordable compared to other similar services.

How Does It Work?

On the Nadine West website, you take the style quiz so that the stylist can get to know what you are looking for in an outfit. You will receive a pink package in the mail with your personalized outfit. Try on the outfit and keep what you love and send back what you don’t.

My Thoughts

The style quiz was super easy to do, which was great because I wanted something that didn’t take too much time but I was still able to make notes to make sure the stylist knew my preferences. I really loved the surprise aspect of this, and it was like opening up a girly gift from a really stylish friend. I cannot stand having to return things, it is such a bummer, but I LOVE the way this company does it because your outfit comes with return shipping.

Discount Code

Use the referral code “Nadine” on NadineWest.com (not an affiliate code for me, just sharing the one they currently have on their website) to waive your shipping fee which means you’ll get your outfit in the mail without paying anything!

What Did I Get?

This month I received a pair of gold dangling earrings, an aqua wrap style bracelet with magnetic closure, a teardrop necklace with a blue stone, a  black striped wrap dress, a sheer floral shirt, a gray and white light sweater, and a pair of olive shorts.

My Outfits

Did I Keep It?

I kept everything, and loved almost all of it! The earrings aren’t my style, I am such a studs girl, but I will be able to pass these on to a friend who I think will enjoy them. The aqua wrap bracelet isn’t something I would have picked, but I actually love it on! The bracelet has beautiful details, like the tassels, that makes it a lot of fun to wear. The necklace is GORGEOUS! I got a very similar one, almost identical except it was turquoise and didn’t have the bar detail, that I received in a previous Nadine West box that I wear all the time. The white dress with black stripes is super cute and comfortable, and I am excited to wear it, but it’s a little more lowcut than what I usually prefer. The sheer floral shirt surprised me because I didn’t think I would like it, but I do think it is pretty. The gray and white sweater is a great basic that is very much my style and I am sure I will wear it a lot in the evenings when it is chilly and this coming fall and winter. The olive shorts are so comfortable, not too short, and very much my style. I am overall very happy with this months box.

Final Thoughts

I love getting my Nadine West box each month! Each month I get a few things that I love, but I do wish that there was a simple form to update style preferences or check-in each month to see what I’d like to find in my box. I have been liking my boxes more and more lately, which I am pleased with.

Have you tried any fashion boxes like this? Have you tried Nadine West? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

What Did I Get?

This month I received a long rose gold leaf necklace, gold bangles that are all connected, a dark red tee with a choker cut, black lace shorts, an olive green open cardigan, a peach floral colored shirt with cutout sleeves, and floral athletic shorts.

My Outfits

Did I Keep It?

Yes, everything! I instantly put on the bracelet because I love it so much and goes with everything! It is so pretty and I’ve received compliments on it already. The leaf necklace is very delicate and the leaf seems like it could break easily, but I really did like the way it looks on. The dark red tea is a great basic that looks really cute tucked in or knotted. I love neutral colors, and lace is so in style for 2018, so the black lace shorts are going to get a lot of wear! I really like that the lace shorts are pretty short, but the lace part goes longer than the lining, so they don’t seem too revealing. The olive cardigan is very similar to one I received from Nadine West before, but it’s actually one of my favorite ever Nadine West items so I don’t mind. The peach floral colored shirt is really pretty, but it is probably my least favorite item in this box only because I’ve been gravitating to neutrals lately. The floral athletic shorts are super soft and perfect for doing yard work, bumming around the house, or wearing with a white or black tank on casual days.

Final Thoughts

I love getting my Nadine West box each month! Each month I get a few things that I love, but I do wish that there was a simple form to update style preferences or check-in each month to see what I’d like to find in my box. I have been liking my boxes more and more lately, which I am pleased with.

7 THINGS YOU CAN DO EVERY DAY (FOR FREE) TO BE MORE BEAUTIFUL!

June 13, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Whew! We have made it to the middle of the week! I am so excited for the weekend, as always! Do you have any special plans for this weekend? Are you doing anything special for Father’s Day? Let me know in the comments!

This is a beauty blog, and I share lots of product reviews and beauty tips, but today I wanted to share something a little different. I have certain habits that I have created for myself that cost no money and I believe make myself, and anyone who chooses to apply them, and beautiful!

#1 No Screen Morning Routine

When I wake up (always on the first alarm, a life-changing habit I started thanks to The 5 Second Rule) I turn off my alarm and check the weather but then I do not check any news, emails, texts, or social media until I’ve been awake for at least 30 minutes. I like to listen to affirmations for peace, calming anxiety, and confidence on YouTube. If you’d like my picks for these, please let me know in the comments. Having this no screen rule when I first wake up helps me decide how my day starts instead of news or things others are doing, and I believe this helps my attitude for the duration of the day to be happier, and more beautiful.

#2 Get Ready

I get ready every single day which to me means I apply some makeup and do my hair every day. For some of you this may mean just some mascara or lipstick, and for others it may mean a full face, but some amount of makeup makes me feel “ready” for anything. I also do my hair, always, which is sometimes just a braid of a messy bun, and sometimes a full curl styling or straightening. I feel more confident, social, and happy when I take a few minutes to get myself ready.

#3 The Rule of Three

When I get dressed I always try to remember the Rule of Three even on my most casual day. A tee shirt and a pair of jeans is just clothes, but if you tuck in or knot your tee, cuff your jeans, and throw on an amazing hat, necklace, or pair of shoes? It is an outfit. I try to stick to the “rule” that you  need three pieces for it to be an outfit. If you’d like me to go into more detail with this, I would be happy to do so!

#4 Journal

I am a writer and have been a writer since I was a young child, but I’ve never been good at keeping a diary or journaling. I have started many but never created habits. In the beginning of 2018 I decided to begin a gratitude journal and started writing down three things I was grateful for (ranging from simple things like coffee to major things like my marriage and my children). You can do this in any old notebook you have lying around, but a pretty  journal may be more fun to keep on your person daily. I have now switched over to The 5 Second Journal adore it so much! I highly recommend it for those of you who don’t have the time or patience for traditional journaling. By taking a few minutes to set my goals and remember what I am grateful for, I am able to give the best of myself to those around me and let go of what doesn’t matter. Being calm and less anxious helps me to feel happy and in turn, more beautiful inside and out.

#5 Eye Contact and Smile

Alright, I get it, everyone *knows* eye contact is important and smiling makes anyone more beautiful. However, until I made it a little game I play where I try to hold eye contact until the other person looks away (all of the people I know in real life reading this are going to look for it now…oh well!), I never realized how, frankly, bad most people are at eye contact. I also am a big proponent of smiling because it makes you look so confident, approachable, and if you keep smiling you actually become more positive and happy. You know when you see or meet someone with a fantastic smile? Be that person!

#6 Workout

I am a naturally slim person, but over the past two almost three years I have really focused on my strength and toning by working out five days a week. People ask me a lot what workouts I use and how I do it, but really it isn’t all that fancy. I use this mat on the floor of my bedroom and simple hand weights (5, 8, and 12lb) like these. I have an easy curl bar and these resistance bands. Some days I workout for an hour and have a fantastic workout! Other days  I have a full face of makeup on and don’t even change into workout clothes, but still do an upper or lower body workout because some is better than none. I think with working out you just need to start! You’ll never regret a workout (unless you get injured!). I also do simple cardio like walking on a high incline on our treadmill and doing some jogging. I also love to chase around the yard with our Little Loves. Working out is something I do for me as a stress release and something that makes me feel good about myself. I LOVE the way it feels to get stronger and notice muscles developing. I also do it for those around me because I am a much better wife/mother/human when I get my workouts in. Plus, working out is so good for my short and long-term health.

#7 Evening Routine

I think everyone should have an evening routine that they can look forward to throughout the day. It could be something like a hot bath, meditation or yoga, or journaling. My nighttime routine is a small snack like my favorite popcorn, a cup of tea, and watching a show on Netflix or YouTube. I think about this time when I feel anxious or stressed during the day, and it helps me to calm myself. I feel like a much happier person knowing I have quiet me time to look forward to and being happier makes me more beautiful.

What are some of your ways to make yourself feel beautiful? Do you have any tricks you could share with others?

Thank you for reading and have a great weekend! xx

STYLE SUBSCRIPTION BOX | NADINE WEST CLOTHING SUBSCRIPTION REVIEW

April 30, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you are having a great start to your week : ) I have shared my outfits from Nadine West before on my blog (read the posts here, here, here, here, here, here, and here) and I have been wearing some items from my last several boxes a lot lately, so I was so excited to receive a new box in the mail from them.

My Outfits

This month I received a lot of clothing pieces and accessories. I got a pair of black cropped leggings with side pockets to fit an iPhone, a navy floral henley style top, a gold bracelet, a clay-colored off the shoulder top, an orange floral babydoll tank that reminds me of a Hawaiian luau, a turquoise necklace, and a pair of cat-eye tortoise sunglasses.

Did I Keep It?

I love the cropped length leggings, mostly because the side pockets fit my cell phone perfectly which is great when I want to wear leggings for walks with the kids and I wore them just this past weekend when I took my seven-year-old to a trampoline park. They do have mesh panels which is great when it is hot, but I will say that they aren’t a compression legging, so they might not be the best when you need super hold-in-place gear, but they are great for comfort activewear that looks great. The navy floral henley style shirt is really comfortable, and I like that way it looks on. The gold bracelet doesn’t seem that exciting, but I really loved the way it looked on and in pictures. I don’t care for the fit or color of the clay-colored top. The orange floral babydoll style tunic tank is a really fun color on, but the fit of the shirt isn’t a style that I love which is a bummer because I love wearing orange. My favorite things this month were far and away the turquoise T necklace and the cat-eye sunglasses! I received compliments on the necklace immediately, and I love how it dresses up a plain tee shirt. The sunglasses are comfortable on, and great for when I just want a pair of lightweight plastic frames.

Final Thoughts

I love getting my Nadine West box each month! Each month I get a few things that I love, but I do wish that there was a simple form to update style preferences or check-in each month to see what I’d like to find in my box.

HOW TO REFRESH YOUR WARDROBE ON A BUDGET | REPLACE BUTTONS TO ADD STYLE

March 21, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope that you are having a fabulous week! Cheers to making it to hump day : )

I have recently been doing some major spring cleaning in my closet. I began by going through every piece of clothing that was hanging in my closet and deciding whether or not it was something I loved or wore enough to justify it getting to stay in the closet.

CLEANING OUT MY CLOSET

I got strict with myself and if things had stains or looked ratty I tossed them. I had so many cami shirts, tanks, and tees that while I still consider closet staples, needed to be replaced. I threw away cheap shoes that weren’t comfortable or were very beat up. I donated clothing that was in good shape but that I didn’t wear or that didn’t fit me.  Anything that I couldn’t part with because it was extremely sentimental, great quality but not currently being worn, or things that I did use but very rarely I moved out of my closet and into storage.

ORGANIZING MY CLOSET

I put all of my clothing in color order and by type so that when I am looking for something, it is easy to find. I already had been doing this, but I perfected it to make it as easy as possible to find and use my clothing pieces. I use these black velvet hangers to keep a clean and organized look while maximizing my small closet space.

REFRESHING CLOTHING ITEMS WITH BUTTONS

I made a pile of clothing that needed to be dry cleaned, and then another pile of things that I loved but wasn’t wearing because they needed small inexpensive repairs. I took a trip to Hobby Lobby and ended up spending $13 to fix three items and am so thrilled with my results that I had to share them with you. I am no seamstress, but I have a small sewing box that is pretty much exclusively the spare buttons that come with clothes and a few basics. If I can do these quick fixes, so can you! ; )

E3000 RHINESTONE FIX

I found a button down shirt that I have had for years from Express that love because it has the timeless style of a white shirt but fun rhinestone buttons to give it a little something, but I hadn’t worn it in YEARS because one button on the shirt was missing a rhinestone. I was able to find a rhinestone that fit into the button and glue it in using E3000 and now I have my shirt back. Similar shirts at Express cost about $60 and I fixed it for $3!

REPLACING A BUTTON ON A SILK BLOUSE

I had a beautiful silk shirt that my mother purchased for me for sorority events back in college (yes, it’s more than a couple of years old!) that I hadn’t worn in years and years because it was missing a button and the puffy sleeve had gone out of style. Fast-forward to 2018? The romantic sleeve is back in style, and a silk shirt really always looks good, so I decided to try to find a replacement button. I found a button that was a bit larger than the buttons on the shirt, but I decided to move the top collar button onto the shirt to where the button was missing and then added the larger rhinestone button to the top collar spot to that the size difference looked like it was meant to be that way. *TIP: If you can’t find the exact button or the exact size you need, put the replacement in a spot that isn’t obvious and move that button to the more obvious spot if needed. I spent $3 to replace a button on a shirt that would retail about $100.

REPLACING BUTTONS ON A BLAZER TO TAKE IT FROM CHEAP TO CHIC

A one-button gray blazer from Maurcies was sitting in my closet but I wasn’t ever reaching for it because I felt that it looked a bit cheap, even though it fits me well. I spent $7 to replace the plastic gray buttons that the blazer came with one large gold button and the smaller gold buttons on the sleeves. A Maurice’s blazer costs about $40-50 and I was able to make it look like a blazer from a more expensive brand by simply replacing the buttons.

SHOP

So, what do you think? Can you think of any jackets, blazers, or shirts where a simple button replacement could make them wearable, more luxe, or more current? If this post inspires you to update any of your pieces, please share with me on my social media which is always linked at the bottom of every post : ) I plan to do more style DIYs and budget tips, so please let me know if you have any requests! xx

KEY PIECES TO BUILD A STYLISH WARDROBE (AFFORDABLE) | MY BIRTHDAY WISHLIST

March 5, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! It is my birthday month, and today I wanted to share a few of the things on my wishlist because I think they are fantastic options for anyone who is working to build a stylish wardrobe.

My Style

In the past couple of years I have been working to only purchase things that bring me happiness, and while I am in no way a minimalist or attempting to be, I think that having a few basic items can ensure that you’re always looking fantastic. I love neutrals because I think that even if a shirt is a more budget-friendly brand, such as Target, H&M, or even Forever 21, you can dress it up with a great necklace, or a nicer handbag. I usually keep my blog beauty-based, but if you’d like to see more of my style picks for shirts, jeans, bras, and shoes please comment to let me know.

My Wishlist

Kate Spade Cameron Street Lacey Wallet

I love this wallet for its timeless style and functionality. I think this looks fantastic with lots of handbags, and I love that it zips around to keep your cards and cash safe.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette

If you’re a regular reader of my blog then you know that I have plenty of neutral eyeshadow palettes, but this one speaks to me because it combines the incredible quality of Anastasia Beverly Hills (same formula as the Modern Renaissance Palette!) with shades that can go from very natural to full glam.

Steve Madden Daisie Pump

I recently went through my closet and narrowed down my shoes to ones that I love and classic pieces that I know will always be a wardrobe staple. I have a pair of nude heels with a rounded toe, but I’ve realized that I really need a pair of pointy toe nude heels because they would work with so many looks. I love this pair of Steve Madden Daisie Pumps because they’re affordable but have fantastic reviews, plus I have always historically had luck with Steve Madden shoes.

The Ordinary 100% Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil

A friend shared her collection of The Ordinary skincare a few months ago and I have picked up a few items since. I love The Ordinary because they offer a ton of different acids, oils, and vitamin products that you can pick and choose based on your needs. The price point is affordable, the brand integrity is backed by fantastic reviews, and the packaging is modern and clean. One of my items on my must-try list is the Cold Pressed Virgin Marula Oil. I also want to try the Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil. If you are interested in hearing more of my thoughts on The Ordinary, please let me know!

Kendra Scott Gold Stud Earrings

I love Kendra Scott jewelry and I am a stud earring girl, so I am completely swooning over these Gold Studs! I love all of the color options, but right now the slate is really speaking to me! What color do you like the best?

Miranda Frye Stephanie Threader

I have become OBSESSED with Miranda Frye lately and a pair of her amazing threader earrings is up high on my current lust-list wish-list! The earrings are said to be very light and you actually thread the string like metal through your ear and they hang so beautifully. Miranda Frye also has gorgeous necklaces that can be layered, as well as incredible rings that are also swoon-worthy.

What is on your wishlist? What are your closet and style staples?  I would love it if you commented to let everyone know in the comments! xx

STYLE SUBSCRIPTION BOX | NADINE WEST CLOTHING SUBSCRIPTION REVIEW

January 29, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you are having a great start to your week : ) I have shared my outfits from Nadine West before on my blog (read the posts here, here, here, and here), and I have been wearing the items from my last several boxes a ton lately, so I was so excited to receive a new box in the mail from them.

My Outfit

This month I received a beautiful floral top that has a lace-up front, a gray and white cardigan sweater, a blue and black check belted tunic, a pair of olive leggings, a cuff bracelet, a delicate necklace, and a pair of beautiful dangle earrings.

Did I Keep It?

Yes! I was immediately draw to the floral lace-up top and wore it the next day! I absolutely love that shirt, and think it will become a go-to this season. I also love the earrings, they’re different than anything else I have, and I love the delicate details. The tunic is different than anything else I have, but I love wearing plaids and I also love tops that make leggings as pants acceptable, so that one is also a win for me. The gray and white open cardigan isn’t something that seems super exciting, but it’s really flattering on and a perfect basic for when I want something comfortable that still looks cute. I wore the necklace and really love it, I have been very into delicate pieces and love the bit of blue in the necklace to bring out my blue eyes. I don’t wear bracelets or watches as often in the winter because my arms are almost always covered in layers (brrr, Michigan is cold!), but I think the bracelet will be *perfect* for dressing up tanks and tees in the summer.

Have you tried any fashion boxes like this? Have you tried Nadine West? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

My Outfit

This month I received a black sweater, a faux fur infinity scarf, a choker necklace, a pair of earrings, and a pair of blue jegging style pants that I ended up returning due to size.

Did I Keep It?

This was the first Nadine West box where I did *not* keep everything I received. I ended up returning the pants because they did not fit me. Returning items to Nadine West is very easy to do, and I did ask if exchanges were possible and it seems that they are often out of stock of the items after they send them out, but  it doesn’t hurt to ask : ) I love the faux fur scarf, it was a style I had been admiring on others, and I have worn it many times since opening my box. I also wore the sweater immediately, and I have gotten a lot of compliments on it. The choker is the one item I am a bit on the fence with, I like choker style necklaces but this isn’t my favorite. I actually love the black, but I may end up removing the circle charm. I was surprised when I saw how long the earrings were, especially because I tend to be a studs girl, but I absolutely LOVE the way they look on!

Have you tried any fashion boxes like this? Have you tried Nadine West? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

JUST FAB REVIEW | IS IT WORTH IT? ARE THE SHOES COMFORTABLE?

January 10, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I love shoes, and I like to have high quality, investment pairs of winter boots, athletic shoes, a classic heel, and of course my favorite UGG Slippers (priorities, people!). However, I love trying out shoes for different events, or explore a new trend, without clutching my pearls. My favorite places to get inexpensive boots is Target or JustFab, and my favorite place to get inexpensive heels is JustFab, so today I want to share my thoughts on the company JustFab.

What Is JustFab?

JustFab is a website that is a part of the ShoeDazzle, Fabletics, and FabKids family, where you join and take a style quiz, have access to exclusive discounts, and receive free shipping and exchanges.

How Does It Work?

Once becoming a VIP member you can opt each month to “skip” the month or pick out a pair of shoes! If you do not “skip” the month by the 5th of every month, you will be charged $39 which can be used as a credit for a new pair of shoes.

My Experience

I joined because I kept seeing ads and thinking the shoes were so adorable for the price! I have been a member for years now, and I overall really enjoy JustFab. In order to not get charged I spend about 10 minutes every six months to put into the calendar on my phone “Skip JustFab” on the first of the month. I have had a few “whoops” months where I don’t skip, but I have just saved the credit for occasions such as birthdays where I want a new pair of shoes.

Why I love It?

I have had so many cute pairs of shoes, and people often compliment my shoes or ask where they are from. I love that I can get cute shoes (see some of my past posts showcasing them here , here, and here) for an affordable price. I have had at least 10 pairs of shoes from JustFab over the past several years, and while some aren’t incredibly comfortable, I have also purchased boots that I wear on a nearly daily basis during the fall and winter months with zero pain. I also find the review on the JustFab site to be very helpful. My latest pair of shoes from just fab, a faux suede black bootie with gorgeous detail embroidery, is shown above.

What I DON’T Love

I haven’t canceled, but I have heard it can be a bit of a hassle, because obviously they don’t want you to cancel. If you have had that experience, definitely let myself and anyone else reading know about it in the comments.
