EMILY NOEL PALETTE REVIEW AND TUTORIAL | MAKEUP REVOLUTION X THE EMILY EDIT

September 3, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday! And, if you’re in the U.S.A, Happy Labor Day!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and, hopefully, are enjoying a great day off today with family!

I have been a follower of the beauty community on YouTube nearly a decade, and a consistent watcher for over six years (you may even remember before I niched my YouTube channel to Disney I dabbled in beauty content myself). I love many creators in the beauty space on YouTube, but the one I feel the most connected to, the one I put the most trust in, and the one who I believe is in it for only the best reasons, it is without any hesitation EmilyNoel83. I watched Emily (a.k.a Beauty Broadcast) announce this collaboration and I cried. I am so happy to be sharing a tutorial using The Needs Face & Eye Palette.

About the Palette

If there’s one palette you need, it’s this one! Revolution x The Emily Edit – The Needs Face & Eye Palette is a full-face palette created by content creator Emily Noel, aka Beauty Broadcast. Emily said: “The Needs is like the greatest hits of the brand… I’ve not seen Revolution do anything like this before and I thought it was something that was really called for… they’ve created so many great palettes, so let’s make the greatest hits from them all. This is what this is, in full face style.” A multi-tasking palette full of positivity, featuring personal shade names that mean something to Emily: “I wanted every color to have an identity.” The Needs is encased in pale pink packaging with Emily’s signature in a beautiful rose gold.

Shades

  • Courage (medium brown, bronzer and contour shade, matte finish)
  • Joy (peachy pink blush, matte finish)
  • Gratitude (creamy highlight, satin finish)
  • Kindness (cream translucent powder, matte finish) (Emily likes to use it as an under-eye powder)
  • Honesty (blush peach, satin finish)
  • Passion (dark brown, with a red shimmer)
  • Peace (peachy nude, matte finish)
  • Faith (warm brown, matte finish)
  • Hope (fudge brown, matte finish)
  • Love (cream matte finish)

My Thoughts

I knew I was going to love this palette because I really do just trust Emily that much. Emily could have collaborated with countless brands, and I adore her even more for picking a quality company that is a price-point that is accessible to everyone. This palette is so functional, and I know that I’ll be using it constantly. I think it’s fantastic for travel or for days when you need a quick no grab and you’re done out-the-door flawlessly palette. I love that this has enough eyeshadows to make a basic look or a more dramatic look without getting bored, and a beautiful bronzer that works great for contouring as well. I love the blush because it works with any eye look, and the highlighter has a beautiful sheen without being glittery. I think this palette would be fantastic for friends who aren’t sure what to buy, what goes together, or where to start with makeup. I think this will be one of my most recommended makeup items now and I am thrilled it isn’t limited edition.

EASY CONTOURING TUTORIAL | HOW-TO CONTOUR 2018

June 18, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you had a great weekend! A subscriber messaged me on my LeahTacklesBeauty Instagram asking if I would do a blog post and contouring video tutorial. Today I will share my tutorial how-to for beginners with you, and if you ever have blog post requests, please let me know : ) What can I do for you?

WHAT IS CONTOURING AND WHY DO YOU CONTOUR?

Contouring is when you use a matte powder, liquid, cream, or stick product that’s a few shades darker than your skin tone to shade (contour) the areas you want to chisel out and define or reshape. People most commonly contour their cheekbones, forehead, chin/jaw, and nose.

PRODUCTS USED

For this tutorial, I used the Benefit Hoola Lite Bronzer, which works well for me because it is a matte color that doesn’t look muddy on my very fair skin. The original Hoola Bronzer is also a great choice, or you can use any matte bronzer or even a matte pressed powder that’s a few shades darker than your skin tone. I have a double ended Tarte brush that I like to use for contouring because I use the smaller side to apply the product exactly where I want it, and then the fluffier side to blend the color out. You can also use an angled blush brush to apply and blend the contour.

MY ROUTINE

I contour my face almost daily, but my routine is typically a few quick version and then on days when I want a full face I will do more contouring. I start by contouring my cheekbones and the easiest way to do this is to suck in your cheeks and apply the color just below that cheekbone. I always put the brush down first close to my ear and then go down to just below the apple of my cheek which lines up with the outer corner of my eye. I put the brush down first wherever I want the most pigment to go. I always blend the cheek contour color up to help get the high cheekbone look.  I then contour my forehead, which I don’t spend a lot of time on because my forehead isn’t a problem area for me, but I do a little contouring on the sides into the hairline to help soften the angles of my face. I then contouring my jawline, blending the color down onto my neck. You can contour right below your lower lip to help make your lips look more full and forward.  I also like to contour my nose, which depending on your nose shape and size can vary, but I contour the sides of my nose to help thin it out a bit, and I contour around the tip which helps shorten the appearance of the length of the nose. After contouring, I apply bronzer on the apples of my cheeks and blending up to the hairline and then a little blush concentrated on the apples of my cheeks. You can then apply any other makeup you wish! Ta-Da! Contouring completely! *Note: I know, this sounds like a ton, but on an average day I probably spend 2 minutes doing this ; )

ONE LOVE ORGANICS | GARDENIA + TEA ANTIOXIDANT BODY SERUM

April 18, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Well, today I was finally able to leave the house after being snowed in since FRIDAY! Is there snow where you live?

Product Claims

The Gardenia + Tea Antioxidant Body Serum intensely nourishes, hydrates and promotes firmer, and smoother skin. This formula has Antileukine 6®, an antioxidant, to help defend against environmental stressors and elemental dryness. The One Love Organics Gardenia + Tea Antioxidant Body Serum can be used alone or layered with sunscreen or lotion for extra hydration.

My Thoughts

I use either a sunless tanning lotion or a regular lotion every time I get out of the shower, but it’s always my least favorite part of the process because I dread waiting for the lotion to dry before getting cozy into my PJs or robe. I was hesitant to try the One Love Organics Gardenia + Tea Antioxidant Body Serum because I’ve never been a body oil gal, minus using them during my pregnancies, but I couldn’t believe how quickly this absorbed into my skin. I have been using it after every shower and looking forward to it because it smells wonderful and it is a little luxurious treat to look forward to. I have also been mixing this with my favorite drugstore sunless tanner and it has been working very well. This product is pricey, so I haven’t purchased another one, but I definitely would use it again or try to find a similar item.

ANTIBACTERIAL TOOTHBRUSH | DOCTOR PLOTKA’S MOUTHWATCHERS REVIEW & DEMO

April 16, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you are having a fantastic start to your week! We had a giant snowstorm and it’s still coming down strong, so we haven’t left the house in days! If you have kids, or even if you don’t, you know that cabin fever can be very real, so feel free to comment suggestions for us below ; )

I am very into oral hygiene and pride myself in being a twice-a-day flosser, two or three times a day brusher, and avid mouthwash proponent. I’ve always bought only soft or “very-soft” toothbrushes (thanks for the tip, mom!) but other than that I have never been too concerned about what toothbrush I use. I was contacted about trying Doctor Plotka’s Mouthwatchers toothbrushes and because I am a bit of an oral health nerd, I said yes. I was sent the toothbrushes for my consideration for review, but this post is not sponsored and as always, I never will accept money in exchange for a positive review. I still use Smile Brilliant to whiten my teeth.

Doctor Plotka’s Mouthwatchers

These brushes were invented by a dentist with over 40 years in his Boston-based dental practice. The Mouthwatchers toothbrushes have bristles infused with silver to naturally eliminate 99.9% of bacteria that grows on the bristles between uses. These naturally antimicrobial bristles help make your overall dental health better because your mouth is not reintroduced to harmful bacteria. The flossing bristles provide superior cleaning because the outer bristles, which are as thin as human hair, gently brush away food that other brushes miss, and the thicker inner bristles help complete the cleaning of the teeth and gums. The soft polyester bristles will outlast your traditional nylon bristles. Doctor Plotka’s Mouthwatchers toothbrush is available in a traditional toothbrush, a travel toothbrush, and an electric toothbrush.

STYLE SUBSCRIPTION BOX | NADINE WEST CLOTHING SUBSCRIPTION REVIEW

April 9, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you are having a great start to your week : ) I have shared my outfits from Nadine West before on my blog (read the posts here, here, here, here, here, and here), and I have been wearing some items from my last several boxes a lot lately, so I was so excited to receive a new box in the mail from them. Nadine West sent me this box for my consideration for review but I was not paid to write this post and as always all opinions are my own.

What is Nadine West?

NadineWest.com is a company that sends you an outfit to try on and you keep only what you love. The outfit is a surprise, but you take a style quiz and the stylists get to know your style more each month. The outfits are affordable with pieces costing about $10-$30 each, which is very affordable compared to other similar services.

How Does It Work?

On the Nadine West website, you take the style quiz so that the stylist can get to know what you are looking for in an outfit. You will receive a pink package in the mail with your personalized outfit. Try on the outfit and keep what you love and send back what you don’t.

My Thoughts

The style quiz was super easy to do, which was great because I wanted something that didn’t take too much time but I was still able to make notes to make sure the stylist knew my preferences. I really loved the surprise aspect of this, and it was like opening up a girly gift from a really stylish friend. I cannot stand having to return things, it is such a bummer, but I LOVE the way this company does it because your outfit comes with return shipping.

Discount Code

Use the referral code “Nadine” on NadineWest.com (not an affiliate code for me, just sharing the one they currently have on their website) to waive your shipping fee which means you’ll get your outfit in the mail without paying anything!

My Outfit

This month I received a lot of clothing pieces and jewelry. For clothing, I opened up a  beautiful peach colored open-faced cotton cardigan, a blue 1/3 button blouse, a pair of floral leggings, and a green sweater dress. For jewelry, I got gold stretchy bracelets, a gorgeous pair of antler gold earrings, and a gold necklace.

Did I Keep It?

I LOVE the peach cardigan and think it is perfect for spring! I like the way the blue blouse looks on, it looks almost like a chambray or denim. The leggings are super comfortable and the print is so vibrant and fun! I love the leggings for lounging around the house or yoga class. The green dress, while I LOVED the olive green color, didn’t fit me well, and also wasn’t my style, but Nadine West makes returns easy. I have worn the earrings already several times, and the bracelets will be cute for stacking bracelets–if my six-year-old gives them back ; ) She LOVES them! I didn’t care for the gold necklace, but have a friend in mind who I think will love it. I appreciate how Nadine West pays attention to your feedback and tries hard to currate a great box of clothing and style pieces for you based off your preferences.

Have you tried any fashion boxes like this? Have you tried Nadine West? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

HOT STEAM HAIR MASK | HIP CHIC SOFT LAMB STEAM HAIR MASK

March 28, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Thank you, as always, for reading : ) I hope that you are having a great week!

This steam hair mask claims to be a fun way to improve the look and feel of split ends, stressed out and unruly frizzy hair. Lamb steam masks are popular in Korean beauty and work by heating up on application to help mend split ends and frizzy hair.

My Thoughts

I LOVED the idea of this mask because it is all contained and a fun thing to try for a night in. I shampooed my hair and then got out of the shower squeezed out excess water out of my hair before gathering my hair on the top of my head. I put the shower cap style mask on my head and used the tape tab to tighten it so none of the mask got out. I used my fingers to work the mask into my hair and then waited about 10 minutes before rinsing it out and following with my regular conditioner in the shower. My hair didn’t have any buildup issues after using this, and my ends felt very smooth! Just like my face feels smooth immediately after a facemask, my hair always feels soft after a conditioner, so it’s hard to tell what the longterm results with this will, but I would definitely use this mask again.

CLEAN & CLEAR NIGHT RELAXING JELLY EYE SHEET MASK | COOLING EYE MASK FOR TIRED EYES

March 26, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that your week is off to a wonderful start! My two oldest Little Loves are on spring break, so we are planning lots of staycation fun like playdates and activities right in our own town. If you’re on spring break, let me know what you are doing for fun in the comments : )

As you know, I adore face masks and anything that can help me look like I got more sleep than I actually did? I am all for it!

Clean & Clear Night Relaxing Jelly Eye Sheet Mask

This Jelly Eye Sheet Face Mask soothes and replenishes skin, targeting the eye area where stress and sleepiness from the day can show. The cooling jelly sheet mask with Hydrogel formula is designed to contour to the skin to help restore and lock in essential nourishing ingredients and moisture leaving the skin feeling fresh and replenished. Gentle on skin and easy to put on and remove, this ready-to-use eye mask contains seaweed extract. Use this dermatologist tested, alcohol-free, and non-comedogenic face mask for just 15 minutes to replenish skin after a long day.

My Thoughts

I really loved how cooling this mask felt, and I’ve shown the trick I use on my LeahTacklesBeauty Instagram where I put my mask in the fridge or freezer but the Clean & Clear Night Relaxing Jelly Eye Sheet Mask was very cold without doing that step. My skin felt incredibly hydrated after using this mask, and the cooling feeling gave me the same sensation as splashing cool water on my face to wake up–very refreshing!

HOW-TO CLEAN YOU MAKEUP BRUSHES AFFORDABLY

March 19, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you are having a great start to your week : ) I try to clean my makeup brushes once a week, and while I have a few favorite cleansers made specifically for makeup brushes (like the Beauty Blender Cleanser Solid), sometimes I like to keep in low-maintenance and budget friendly. I was sent a tool called the Bump It Off Silicone Cleaning Tool for consideration for review, but this post is not sponsored and as always I would never accept money in exchange for a positive review.

How I Clean My Brushes Easily and Affordably

I use foaming antibacterial soap and gently rub the brush onto the silicone nubs until it is clean and the water runs clear. I use the large nubs for my bigger brushes and the fine nubs for my eyeshadow brushes. I use a brush tree to dry my makeup brushes upside down which makes them dry a lot faster, but if you don’t have one you can simply roll a hand towel so that the brush head can still dry tiled down.

Bump It Off Silicone Cleaning Tool

I have used other small silicone brush cleaners, but I did like the size of this one especially for larger powder brushes. I did find the fit of it a bit odd to get used to, but I still enjoyed having it fit on my hand so I had more freedom to adjust the water, pump the soap, and use my other hand for holding the brush. This tool has awesome views for washing pups on Amazon, but we don’t have a pup in our house so I haven’t been able to test it out. The packaging also brags that it can be used to scrub laundry and pots or pans.

Sometimes keeping it simple makes it actually get done, you know? ; ) What are your affordable or low-maintenance favorites? Let us know in the comments! xx

COLOR CORRECTING WITH L’OREAL TRUE MATCH SUPER-BLENDABLE CORRECTING CONCEALER | DRUGSTORE PEACH CONCEALER

March 14, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope that you are having a wonderful week so far!

If there is any week above others when I’m feeling like I need to correct my dark circles even more than normal, it is the week of Daylight Savings Time! I have talked about my battle with dark under eye circles (I credit the combo of genetics & three Little Loves under the age of seven!) and I have found what is my new favorite for quick color correcting under my eyes. Be sure to follow my LeahTacklesBeauty Instagram to see makeup tutorials on lots of products I’m testing out!

L’Oreal True Match Super-Blendable Correcting Concealer in 402 Peach

My Thoughts

I love that this is a chubby crayon style corrector because on mornings when I am in a hurry and don’t want to deal with a thicker cream concealer (no shade to my Benefit Boi-ing Brightening Concealer, it’s still an all-time favorite for me but it is more time consuming to apply). I love that this is a twist-up style crayon because I don’t have to worry about sharpening. I was AMAZED at how this completely counteracted my very apparent darkness, especially on the inner corners of my eye against the side of my nose and on the under eye area. I enjoy that this application style allows me to make sure the product goes right where I want it to, and it’s soft so I didn’t feel that it was tugging the delicate skin by the eye. This is now one of my absolute favorite peach concealers, and I will 100% repurchase it. *Note: L’Oreal does sell these in other color correcting shades, including a Bisque which would work well for medium skin tones and Orange which would be great for deep skin tones.

My Routine

After applying my foundation (if wearing foundation that day) I apply the product on the inner corner area of my eye and gently apply some under my eye, stopping about at my halfway and then using my finger or a Beauty Blender lightly press and blend the product into my skin. I then like to use a light skin-toned concealer (I am loving the Tarte Shape Tape in Fair) before setting with a loose power like the Coty Airspun Loose Powder.

HOW-TO UP YOUR HAIR GAME | HAIR ACCESSORY STYLING TIPS FEATURING ULTA BEAUTY

March 12, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Today is my birthday, and it is also the fourth birthday of this blog, LeahTackles.com. I have worked hard and proud that I haven’t missed a post in four years. I have consistently posted every Monday and Wednesday (and for a while, I posted on Friday’s, too). I have worked hard to constantly improve my content. If you have been here from day one, or just joined today, thank you for reading! I appreciate you! If you’d like to do something for me for my birthday, please consider subscribing ; )

Ulta Hair Accessories

I’ve been very impressed with hair accessories section lately at Ulta Beauty. I typically spend my money and time looking at skincare or makeup while at Ulta, and if you’re that way too you definitely should pop over to the hair accessory aisles because they have so many chic options for great prices. I’ve grabbed combs that can make my 1-minute ponytail or messy bun look purposeful and stylish, elastics that feel weightless and keep my hair out of my face, and clips or claws that can dress up the half-down look.
