MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS BEFORE YOU ROCK A NUDE LIP!

November 9, 2016 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope that you are having a wonderful day! In the past I shied away from nude lips because I know that the right shade can be incredibly hard to find! I also thought that my very fair skin couldn’t rock a nude, but this is actually not true AT ALL! Anyone, and I mean anyone, can rock a nude lip but make sure you follow these tips to look your best!

Formula and Shade

I love matte lips, and matte nude lips, but nude lipstick it can make you look pasty or very washed out. If you want a matte nude, it is possible, but be careful! If you have fair skin, try a pinky or mauve nude in a matte color. If you have a darker skin tone, try a nude lip that leans more orange. The biggest hint is do not go lighter for your lips than your skin tone.

Lip Liner

I definitely think that lining your lip is especially pretty with a classic nude lip! You can really define, and even slightly over-line, your cupids bow for a sexy pout. Be sure that the nude liner you choose matches closely to the lipstick or gloss you want to wear, and doesn’t show the line. Another option is to fill your lips in completely with a nude liner, and then go over the liner with a lipstick or lipgloss.

Other Makeup?

A nude lip is often paired with a smokey eye because this draws attention to the eyes and keeps the makeup from being too busy. Nude lipstick is a very classic look, and if you want to forego a smokey eye it also looks great with a winged eyeliner look. I also love a nude lip with a bronze look and a great highlight ; )

Too Faced Melted Kisses!! Holiday Makeup Review!

October 29, 2014 & 6 Comments

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I am SO excited to be sharing my first review of a holiday makeup set for 2014 with you all today!! I already did my Holiday Makeup Sets for 2014 post, as well as my Holiday Makeup Sets: Top Values on “Leah’s Friday Five” on the Pearls and Pastries Shop blog, and actually getting to play with one of the sets and try it out is making me even more excited for all of the holiday makeup goodness!

Too Faced Cosmetics Melted Kisses

When Too Faced launched their Melted Lipsticks I was intrigued but had been putting off buying them because 1) I couldn’t decide what color I wanted to try, and 2) $21 each isn’t crazy for a high-end lipstick, but it isn’t as wallet friendly as other options either. Needless to say I was hoping that they would have a holiday set that included these, and when I saw this Melted Kisses set I knew I wanted it!

Cost:

$25.00

What’s Inside:

Deluxe Mini tubes of Melted Berry, Melted Fuchsia, Melted Peony, and Melted Nude. Each of these are part of the permanent collection of Melted Lipsticks.

Packaging:

Ummm hellllooo adorable!! I love the little nutcracker girls on the side of the box and all of the glittery details! Would make a super cute stocking stuffer or gift!!

Swatches:

Melted Berry:

Melted Fuchsia:

Melted Peony:

Melted Nude:

First Impression:

VERY pigmented! These are NOT a sheer wash of color at all! They feel nice going on the lips, and the applicator is very soft. I do think that I’ll use an anti-feathering clear liner like this one from Too Faced, or line my lips before using the darker colors especially. They go on glossy but seem to change to more of a matte which I actually really like! These aren’t drying at all and finding a comforable lipstick, especially one that’s more matte, hasn’t been easy these days since pregnancy has made my lips *uber* dry.

Thoughts After One Day:

I found that the Melted Berry color lasted through lunch and I didn’t have to touch up until mid afternoon. These do leave a bit of a stain on the lips as well, so even when it was time to reapply my lips still had color. I will wear a lipliner next time, but mostly because it was hard to get the edge of the lips perfect with such a bold color.

Thoughts On All Shades After 1 Week of Having Set:

I love this set!! My favorite right now is the Melted Berry because it screams fall/winter/holiday season and the Melted Peony is perfect for everyday wear. I think this is a great value and I love seeing more affordable holiday giftsets out there!!

Thank you so much for reading!! And don’t forget to let me know what holiday makeup sets you would like to see reviews on in the comments!! Have a wonderful weekend!!! XO

DIY LIPSTICK HOLDER AND ORGANIZER!

April 23, 2014 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I love lip products, and even though I have large makeup storage drawers, my lip products are always sliding around and unorganized which I hate! I absolutely love the look of the acrylic lipstick holders that you can buy on amazon or other websites, and I will probably eventually get one of those to display my most used lipsticks on my vanity, but I needed something for all my other lip products. I recently came across a video tutorial from ItsKeerstin where she recreated and modified a super inexpensive and practical way to organize all of her lipsticks…it’s awesome and I wanted to share my own version as well! ItsKeerstin is  hilarious and I really enjoy her videos!! You can easily decorate it to make it fit your style, or keep it pretty simple like I chose to do since I will be keeping it in a drawer. If you like today’s tutorial, please considering hovering over any of the pictures until you see the pink “pin” button and pinning it to your Pinterest account… I appreciate it!!

SUPPLIES:

DIY-Lipstick-Holder.jpeg

3-in-1 Cotton Sets from Dollar Tree (I used 2 but you can get more for a bigger storage container. I have only seen these at Dollar Tree, but I did find the 3-in-1 Cotton Set on Amazon, although there is $4 shipping)

Thick cardstock, cardboard, or poster board in the color of your choice

Scissors or a paper cutter

Glue gun

COST:

Less than $10 (mine cost $2!)

STEP 1:

Empty out the cotton swabs, cotton swabs, and cotton balls from the Cotton Set box. Then, soak the box in hot water or use Goo Gone to remove the labels on the box.

STEP 2:

I cut out my poster board to fit 2 of the Cotton Set boxes ahead of time with a pair of scissors simply by tracing them with a pencil onto the paper.

STEP 3:

Cut the lid off of the Cotton Set box with a pair of sharp scissors (it was a lot easier to get a clean cut then I thought it would be!)

STEP 4:

Be sure to have everything set up how you need it because hot glue sets quickly! Use your hot glue gun to put two lines of glue down the length of the poster board or cardstock for the first Cotton Set box and press it onto the glue. Do the same thing with the next Cotton Set box and so on. Be sure to have all of the boxes facing the same way if you are doing more than two boxes, otherwise the tab from where the lid would have snapped closed will cause the boxes to not line up perfectly.

STEP 5:

Carefully put a line of glue between the boxes and press together (you only have to do this at the very top, and you only need a tiny amount of glue because it’s more important to work fast then to get a perfect line).

STEP 6:

Decorate the box if desired or leave so that it is clear on the sides like I chose to do.

STEP 7:

Fill the box with lots of lippies!!
