Packing Cubes | Why You NEED Them

August 10, 2020 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

As you read this I am sitting at my family lake cottage and hopefully offline. I wrote this amidst packing for a family of five. Mamas, you *know* what I’m talking about. WOOF. One of my pet peeves is living out of a suitcase [ I unpack and organize. ALWAYS.] and packing cubes have changed my packing game.

Why You NEED Packing Cubes

Packing cubes didn’t sound any better than large zip locks to me and I didn’t want to take the plunge. But they are so good and save so much space. No more wrinkled, not being able to see what’s clean vs. what’s dirty mess. They are worth the small investment and the entire trip run more smoothly.

My Routine

I pack an outfit for every person for every day of the trip (including underwear and socks) and a couple of extra outfits. I pack a “dinner” outfit for everyone if applicable. I pack everyone a sweatshirt and a pair of jeans for cool evenings and mornings. I pack each person two swimsuits so one can dry while the other is being worn. Everyone gets pajamas, a jacket, and typically sandals and sneakers. I pack outfits for each person in one cube. I pack socks and underwear in one cube. I pack pajamas for the kids in one cube and me in another (husband isn’t a PJs guy, but he gets joggers and basketball shorts). I have a cube for my bras. I also have toiletries in a bag. I take a giant mesh laundry bag (ala college) for the dirty laundry.

Shop

Do you use packing cubes? Or do you just toss everything in and pray? Let me know in a comment!

Nadine West Unboxing and Review 2020

July 20, 2020 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Have you ever wondered how a clothing subscription box works? Nadine West offers an affordable style subscription service.

Before we dig in, a little housekeeping, I now offer social media coaching as well as social media management.

I have shared my outfits from Nadine West for two years now on my blog (read the posts here). Nadine West sent me this box for my consideration for review but I was not paid to write this post and as always all opinions are my own.

What is Nadine West?

NadineWest.com is a company that sends you an outfit to try on and you keep only what you love. The outfit is a surprise, but you take a style quiz and the stylists get to know your style more each month. The outfits are affordable with pieces costing about $10-$30 each, which is very affordable compared to other similar services.

How Does Nadine West Work?

On the Nadine West website, you take the style quiz so that the stylist can get to know what you are looking for in an outfit. You will receive a pink package in the mail with your personalized outfit. Try on the outfit and keep what you love and send back what you don’t.

My Thoughts On Nadine West

The style quiz was super easy to do, which was great because I wanted something that didn’t take too much time but I was still able to make notes to make sure the stylist knew my preferences. I really loved the surprise aspect of this, and it was like opening up a girly gift from a really stylish friend. I cannot stand having to return things, it is such a bummer, but I LOVE the way this company does it because your outfit comes with return shipping.

Use the referral code “Nadine” on NadineWest.com (not an affiliate code for me, just sharing the one they currently have on their website) to waive your shipping fee which means you’ll get your outfit in the mail without paying anything!

Nadine West Unboxing

This wasn’t a great box for me, and while I got some beautiful pieces they were patterns, florals, and bright colors which aren’t my style. I did get a pair of super comfortable sweater material joggers that I can’t wait to wear this fall. I also got my favorite necklace I’ve ever got in a box! It is a gold disk with a tiny cubic zirconia stone. I love delicate jewelry and this one looks like nice quality and I know I will wear it often. I also got a pair of gold circle studs with silver druzy raw stones that I actually already have a pair that are nearly identical, but I love them so much that I am excited to have a backup pair. *DRESS SHOWN FROM TARGET SHOP IT HERE.

Nadine West Final Thoughts

I love getting my Nadine West box each month! Most months I get a few things that I love, but I do wish that there was a simple form to update style preferences or check-in each month to see what I’d like to find in my box. I hope that I will continue to get neutral pieces that fit my style and delicate jewelry that works with my sense of style. I would love to see some simple, neutral-colored maxi dresses for spring, too. I would rather receive two or three nicer items than a lot of pieces that aren’t as nice of quality.

Have you tried any fashion boxes like this? Have you tried Nadine West? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Have a wonderful rest of your week! Thank you for reading! xx

WALMART TIME AND TRU | PAPER BAG SHORTS

June 22, 2020 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Each week when I’m grabbing groceries I dash through the women’s clothing, specifically the Time and Tru section. I recently shared a great Summer 2020 Walmart Clothing Haul, but I had to dedicate a post to these new shorts I found.

Time and Tru Women’s Tie Waist Shorts Review

These paper bag waist shorts feature zipper and button closure with a ruched elastic waist. They are a high waisted fir with a 4″ inseam. They are 99% cotton and 1% elastic.

“Toasted brown” is darker in person than the khaki color that they appear in the photo in the middle. The photo on the left is with a filter, and the way I *wish* the green pair looked in person. The photo on the left is the most accurate picture of the “toasted brown” color.

Pros

I love that these feature the paper bag waist look and that the tie is a denim like material that makes it easy to make the bow stay perky and I don’t have to mess with it to make it look nice again every time I use the restroom. The 4″ inseam is a great length that feels comfortable for me to wear out and about, and this can be hard to find in a high waisted short.

Cons

I love the toasted brown and denim color, but the other colors like the olive are very bright and this makes them look cheaper to me than a less pigmented version. I wish they came in black and plain linen.

RHINESTONE FRINGE JEAN JACKET DIY TUTORIAL

June 15, 2020 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I have been seeing more and more rhinestone fringe jean jackets. I especially love Daniel Diamond’s designs, but they are out of my price range. During quarantine I decided I wanted to DIY my own and today I want to share my final product with you.

RHINESTONE FRINGE JEAN JACKET DIY TUTORIAL

You Will Need

-A jean jacket. I purchased this one from Time and Tru from Walmart. If you prefer a more fitted style, this jacket is super cute too. I also love this white Time and Tru jacket and think it would look stunning with gold fringe.

–E6000 or E6000 Plus ( I used Plus)

-Fringe! I ordered one yard of this from an Etsy shop but shipping took a LONG time (about 6 weeks). It is stunning quality and affordable. This one from Amazon is also beautiful.

Instructions:

Lay your jacket on a flat surface with a layer of paper incase you get glue on it (okay, I totally didn’t do that but our kitchen table got lucky…don’t tell my husband!) with the back of the jacket facing up. For my jacket one yard went from one elbow, up the arm, across the yolk, and down the other arm ending at the other elbow. I moved it so it was just below the seam so I could start squeezing the glue along the seam. I squeezed about 3 inches of glue at a time and pressed the fringe into the glue, and then continued 3 inches at a time. I let the jacket lay flat to dry for several hours before moving it, and left it flat for a full 24 hours before wearing it.

Have you ever DIY’d something great? Let me know in the comments!

I got a dress that is almost like an oversized men’s shirt, and while it wasn’t awful on I won’t be keeping it and found it too short. I got a navy top with exaggerated puffy sleeves and faux buttons down the front that I like and will be keeping. I also received a pair of black joggers that can easily be dressed up or down.

Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask Review

April 27, 2020 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I have been masking regularly again and taking this time as we quarantine to take extra good care of my skin.

Garnier Skin Active Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask

I love the Garnier Skin Active line and the Moisture Bomb Sheet Mask has been wonderful with so much time spent indoors that has made my skin more dry than normal.

It is a water-based sheet mask with Hyaluronic Acid. The mask is free of mineral oil and petrolatum, and is a non-greasy formula, with green tea extract, that provides added hydration.

  • Half a bottle of hydrating serum in 1 mask
  • Claims to give 24-hour long-lasting hydration
  • Helps prevent moisture loss throughout the day

Cosmic Deep Cleansing Jade Holographic Peel-Off Mask |Review

April 20, 2020 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I have had more makeup-free days than normal during quarantine due to COVID-19, and that combined with regular masking has helped my skin to look very clear (woot woot!). My current favorite mask is the Jade Holographic Peel-Off Mask by Freeman Beauty.

Shop our shirts and keep our small family business alive!

Cosmic Deep Cleansing Jade Holographic Peel-Off Mask

I have been a fan of the holographic masks by Freeman Beauty for a while. I almost always notice a more even skin tone, and softer skin immediately following a mask, but because I like trying different masks in can be hard to tell if all of the claims are accurate. I do find that the Jade mask, which is recommended for normal or oily skin, helps my skin feel fresh and stay clear, and I love using it after a day in makeup or after a great workout.

Tucker Ashley Perfecting Moisturizer Review

April 13, 2020 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Because we have been quarantined for a month now I have not been wearing SPF most days because unfortunately, the weather hasn’t been very good *yet* here in Michigan. I started using a Tucker Ashley Perfecting Moisturizer that I’ve had sitting in my basket of yet-to-be-used products.

HOUSEKEEPING! Keep our small business alive! Shop small!

Tucker Ashley Perfecting Moisturizer

The Perfecting moisturizer is oil-free and provides multi-functional benefits. Hyaluronic Gel hydrates and ceramides work to seal in moisture and claims to gives dewy finish.

Product Details:
• Oil-free
• Ceramides to protect
• Hyaluronic acid to hydrate
• Won’t clog pores

My Thoughts

I have been LOVING this moisturizer! It doesn’t cause breakouts and wears well under my makeup on my combo/oily skin. My biggest gripe with this moisturizer is that it does not contain any SPF, so if I wanted to wear this while not in quarantine, I would need to use a separate product for a sunscreen.

Zo Skin Health Exfoliating Polish Review

April 6, 2020 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

During the quarantine, I have been enjoying my self-care routines, such as exfoliating my skin with my Zo Skin Exfoliating Polish, more than ever. Each week I shave my face, use my microdermabrasion tool PMD, and lately, I’ve added in this incredible polish by Zo Skin Health.

Zo Skin Health Exfoliating Polish

Magnesium crystals exfoliate dead skin cells to create a clear, smooth and even-toned complexion.

Why I love it

I have had these since the beginning of the year and I haven’t made a noticeable dent in it, even with weekly use. A little, tiny pea-sized amount, is all I use. I use circular motions, avoiding the eye area, on damp skin and rinse it off before continuing on to my cleanser.

Wet n’ Wild | Photo Focus Concealer

March 30, 2020 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I have been really into wearing minimal makeup, and I’ve only been wearing concealer and powder most days and skipping foundation. I recently picked up the Wet n’ Wild Photo Focus Concealer and it is so good! Today I am going to share why I love it with you.

Housekeeping! KEEP OUR SCREEN PRINTING BUSINESS OPEN!!! And, get something cool!

Wet n’ Wild Photo Focus Concealer

It comes in a tube and has a doe-foot applicator. It is less than $4 for .29 oz (compare to Tarte Shape Tape, for example, which is .33 oz and about $27). It is the absolute perfect in-between to me, it isn’t ultra matte but it isn’t so glowy that it scares my combo/oily skin self. It is much thinner than a heavy-duty concealer like the previously mentioned Tarte Shape Tape or Shape Tape dupe e.l.f Camo Concealer, but it still offers beautiful coverage. I am the shade Fair Beige or Light Neutral. I like using this with my It Cosmetics Airbrush Foundation Brush on my forehead, nose, and anywhere else I need a little coverage, and with my Sigma F86 Tapered Kabuki Brush (my all-time FAVORITE for undereye concealer! Amazon just told me I bought it SEVEN YEAR ago and it’s going strong! So, so good). I also like using the Wet n’ Wild Photo Focus Concealer with a beauty sponge (this is my favorite).
