BABY MAGIC SKINCARE SECRET AND BIG GIVEAWAY!

November 2, 2016 & 5 Comments

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope that you are having a wonderful week so far! I am so excited to be sharing a product that I’ve been using for myself and my children for years and was happily reintroduced to when I was asked to do this post. As always, all opinions are my own and I only share products that I believe are quality items that you, my friends and readers, would like to see! I know a baby bath product company may seem like a stretch for a beauty blog, but hang in there because I will explain ; ) I was sent product for review purposes, and this is a sponsored post.

babymagiclogo-leahtackles.jpeg

Baby Magic is celebrating 65 years of bringing families hypoallergenic, tear-free, and paragon-free Hair & Body Wash, Lotion, and other baby items. Baby Magic created a campaign called “For Every Lady In Waiting” in the 1950’s, which was incredibly forward thinking for it’s time, featuring real pregnant women in designer clothes. To celebrate 65 years, Baby Magic has decided to do something progressive for OUR time by including expectant fathers in re-creating the vintage ads which you can see on the “Dads In The Making” page. You can see the Baby Magic History to see more about this family owned business.

How I Use It

babymagic-giveaway-leahtackles.jpeg

I put on lotion every day when I get out of the shower unless I am applying a sunless tanner. I don’t always use baby lotion, but I have used Baby Magic in the past because it’s gentle and doesn’t have a strong smell. I’ve been enjoying reaching for this again, and the price point is so affordable I definitely would purchase it again for myself to have on hand. Another great “skincare secret” is to use the shampoo as a shaving cream! It is affordable and makes my legs very soft. I love lathering my kids up in lotion after a bath QUICKLY, and Baby Magic does seem to soak in fast which I love!  I asked my mom about her own Baby Magic memories, and she said she remembers the smell and using it as well : )

KAT VON D LOCK-IT CONCEALER IN WHITE OUT | CONCEALING FAIR SKIN! PART 2

October 31, 2016 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday! And, Happy Halloween!

Today I want to do the follow up to my Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Part 1 first impression review. I have now been wearing this concealer for about a week, and I feel like I’ve worn it enough to give my full (spoiler alert) stamp of approval. I do have to say the fact that I am posting a white concealer review on Halloween is making me a laugh a bit ; ) You could totally use this for a Halloween look too ;  ) If you have tried this concealer, or a white concealer let me know in the comments : )

Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer in White Out

Cost $26

Review

As I talked about in Part 1, I really love how much this can brighten my fair skin! Until trying this white concealer I was never able to conceal my under eyes with a concealer that was lighter than my fair complexion, and I was so surprised to see how much I could brighten the under eye area! That may sound silly, but if you have very fair skin then you may understand! I have now used this over mineral foundation like the Bare Escentuals Bare Minerals Powder Matte Foundation, medium to full coverage foundation like Covergirl Stay Fabulous 3-in-1 Foundation, and lighter BB creams and have found this to work well with all of them. I have used both a Beauty Blender and the Sigma F86 Tapered Kabuki and while both work I prefer to use a damp Beauty Blender sponge. I have not had any issues with dryness, but do keep in mind that I have combo/oily skin.  I have not found this to settle into fine lines, but I do set this with a translucent setting powder like the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder. Overall, I really love the Kat Von D Lock-It White Out Concealer! It has become my go-to for my under eye concealing!

Thank you, as always, for reading! If you enjoyed this post, please “Pin” it to your Pinterest, or share! xx

Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer in White Out | Concealing Fair Skin! PART 1

October 26, 2016 & 1 Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope that you are having a great week so far! As most of you know, I have very fair skin and if you have very fair skin then you know the struggle that is finding a brightening concealer. I am usually the lightest, or the second lightest, foundation color, and I always buy the lightest concealer possible. A common beauty tip is to conceal your under eye and any area you’d like to highlight, with a concealer that is one or two shades lighter than your skin tone, and while that’s great advice if your skin tone is the same shade as the lightest concealer options, that can be a problem! So, I was very excited to try the Kat Von D Lock-It concealer and today I will share my first impressions with you : ) I will be doing a check in and final thoughts post in the next week or two, so please let me know if you like that for future product reviews as well.

This concealer claims to offer great coverage without settling into fine lines and brighten.

First Impression

When I first applied it in a triangle under my eyes I was a little shocked and how thick and white it was, which is silly because it is a WHITE concealer, but I haven’t ever put white makeup on my face before ; ) However, I was able to easily blend this in with a damp Beauty Blender. The coverage seems to be very good, and I was blown away by how brightening it was for my under eye! I do have dark circles, so I love that I was able to brighten it so much! I did have to be careful to not go too heavy because I didn’t want to look ashy. I love that this didn’t settle into my fine lines at all. So far, I haven’t noticed any issues with dryness with this concealer, but I will be keeping an eye on that to update you with my check in and final thoughts post in the next week or two on this concealer.

If you liked this post, please don’t forget to share! I have share buttons on the bottom of every post, and at the top of this webpage : ) Thank you! Have a wonderful day! xx

LAURA MERCIER TRANSLUCENT LOOSE SETTING POWDER REVIEW

October 24, 2016 & 3 Comments

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! Today I want to share a review on a popular, but pricy, translucent loose setting powder. If you have any questions, don’t be shy!! Ask me in the comments : ) Also, let me know you’re favorite setting powder in the comments!

LAURA MERCIER TRANSLUCENT LOOSE SETTING POWDER:

lauramercier-translucentsettingpowder-leahtackles.jpeg

lauramercierloosepowder-review-leahtackles.jpeg

lauramerciertranslucentloosepowder-review-leahtackles.jpeg

Cost: $38

This powder contains French cashmere talc, and claims to leave you with a natural finish that also blurs imperfections and fine lines while it also gives a soft focus to your skin.

Why I Love It

I have combo/oily skin, but get very oily on my nose and this powder keeps my skin looking matte but without looking cakey or flat. This is super fine and feels weightless on the skin.

How To Use It

You can purchase the Laura Mercier Velour Puff or use another cosmetics puff to lightly roll and press the powder into your skin. I also like using a medium sized powder brush to tap this into my skin. I like to apply this after applying my foundation and concealer to set my entire face and then apply lightly to my T-zone once all of my makeup is done.

Can You “Bake” Your Foundation or Concealer With This?

Yes! You can bake your foundation or concealer using this powder! However, keep in mind that this powder has a fairly high price point, so you may want to use a lower cost loose powder since a lot of that product does get wasted!

*Note: Baking your foundation or concealer means letting a translucent powder sit on your face for several minutes to allow the heat from you skin to set your foundation and/or concealer and then you dust off the powder with a brush to unveil a creaseless and flawless look. If you are confused about baking or would like to see a blog post dedicated to it, please let me know in the comments!

I hope that you found this helpful! If you did PLEASE share! It truly makes my entire day! And don’t forget to subscribe!! : ) Thank you so much for reading! xx

TOO FACED LIP INSURANCE GLOSSY REVIEW

October 19, 2016 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

We have been talking a lot about lipsticks and lip products lately, but that is because to me the cooler months and lipsticks go hand-in-hand! Does anyone else feel that way? But one thing I have been using lately is the Too Faced Lip Insurance Glossy, so today I wanted to share it with you!

TOO FACED LIP INSURANCE GLOSSY:

toofacedlipinsuranceglossy-review-leahtackles.jpeg

toofacedlipinsuranceglossy-leahtackles.jpeg

I love this because it makes my lipstick last noticeably longer without making my lips feel crazy dry like other lip primers I have tried. At first when I tried this I had to get used to the way it changed the feeling of some of the lipsticks on my lips, but the lipstick looking better and lasting longer makes it worth it. The feeling on the lips isn’t bad, it’s so thin that you almost feel like you haven’t done anything, but it really works. I like that this also helps so that my lip color doesn’t feather out. If you lips are super chapped or flaked it won’t make your lipstick appear completely smooth on the lips, but it does help to make the lipstick appear smoother. This will not change your lipsticks glossy, but it will have a sheen so keep that in mind if you’re applying a matte color over this primer. I love using this especially with nude lipsticks that can really look bad if they feather out. Overall? I love it!

What do you think? A lot of days I stick to my favorite Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker Tsum Tsum Balms, but this is becoming a g0-to for lipsticks. Have a wonderful weekend and please share to make my whole day : )

GARNIER SKINACTIVE MICELLAR CLEANSING WATER REVIEW

October 17, 2016 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that all of you had a wonderful weekend! We had a ton of fun at the pumpkin patch this weekend which you can see in our Daily Vlog. I have been having fun with darker eye looks now that the weather is changing, and I thought that since a lot of you probably are as well, it would be the perfect time to share one of my favorite ways to remove my makeup.

GARNIER SKINACTIVE MICELLAR CLEANSING WATER:

garniermicellarcleansingwater-leahtackles.jpeg

*Note: I have been using the one with the blue lid, which is meant for even waterproof eye makeup, but have heard rave reviews about the pink lid as well. If you would like me to compare the two, let me know in the comments and I would be happy to do so!

WHY I LOVE IT:

You can use this to remove face, lip, and eye makeup. It removes makeup without harsh rubbing. You do not have to rinse your face after using this, but I choose to remove my makeup and then continue with the rest of my nighttime skincare routine which includes cleansing.

HOW I USE IT:

I try to be sure to shake well before use. I saturate a cotton ball and then gently wipe off my face makeup. I put a small amount on a cotton ball if I need to remove lipstick. I saturate a cotton round and then hold it on my eye for a couple of seconds and *lightly* wipe without rubbing or tugging the delicate eye area.

COST:

This Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water is such an affordable product at about $7.00, and it is a dupe for the more expensive Bioderma, which retails for about $17.00.

I hope you enjoyed this post and found it helpful! If you’d like to know the other products I use to remove my makeup, be sure to let me know! Please don’t forget to subscribe if you haven’t already and have a wonderful day! xx

MY FAVORITE DRUGSTORE LIPSTICK!

October 12, 2016 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I am absolutely loving wearing lipstick right now and while I love liquid lipsticks and stains, right now I have been reaching for good ole fashioned lipsticks. I have lipsticks that I love from both the drugstore and from higher end brands, but today I wanted to share you the one that I love beyond all others. I haven’t tried every lipstick shade from this line (not even close!) but anytime I want a certain shade I turn to this line because they have never steered me wrong. I do use my Homemade DIY Honey Almond Lip Scrub every few days especially as the weather gets cooler. I also love the Bonnie Bell Lip Smacker Tsum Tsum lip balms at night and dabbed on before I apply my lipstick.

MAYBELLINE COLOR SENSATIONAL LIPSTICKS:

If you’d like more details on my favorite shades from the line, please let me know in the comments! Be sure to let me know YOUR favorite lipstick line, too!

HOLIDAY BEAUTY RELEASES! BEAUTY ADVENT CALENDARS!

October 5, 2016 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I have been excited about the holiday makeup releases since mid summer which seems crazy, but that is when some of the sneak peeks come out! I absolutely love the holiday season and I, obviously, love makeup so putting the two together makes me giddy. Today I wanted to share three beauty and makeup related advent countdown calendars incase you’d like to treat yourself or a friend to a little beauty cheer this holiday season ; ) Speaking of advent calendars, our Elf On the Shelf will be delivering fun ones to each of the kids this year and I am *so* excited about them! Stay tuned to our Daily Vlogs to see those later this season!

beautyadventcalendars-leahtackles.jpeg

L’Occtiane Advent Calendar:

Price: $55

I was excited to see this as an option for those who would like to try a higher end skincare brand. I do wonder if the sizes will be large enough to get a good feel for if you like some of the products, but others like the hand cream and soaps I would think you could definitely get enough of an idea of whether or not you’d like to purchase the full size items. These would also be awesome for traveling if you have an upcoming trip!

Ciaté London Mini Mani Month Nail Polish Set:

Price: $59

I am SWOONING over this one! If you know me then you know that I do not need any more nail polish, but this set is gorgeous! I am swooning over the packaging as well as the colors! I love that you get a great variety of polish colors.

Benefit Cosmetics Girl O’Clock Rock Mini Set:

Price $45

This isn’t quite an advent calendar this year, but you could do “12 Days of Christmas” or just open it the 12 days before Christmas instead of 24. I think this is a great set if you don’t have a lot of Benefit Cosmetics items or maybe for someone who is just starting out with makeup. And Benefit does such adorable holiday packaging!

Have a wonderful weekend loves! Please comment below what you would like to see for the holiday season! Reviews? Gift Guides? Both? Let me know ; ) xx

MY FAVORITE MAKEUPGEEK EYESHADOWS FOR FALL!

October 3, 2016 & 2 Comments

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that all of you are having a great start to your week! I have been reaching for my Z-palette a lot lately because some of my Makeup Geek shadows have been absolutely perfect for fall! Makeup Geek cosmetics sell individual eye shadow pan singles, which means that they do not come in a case or a palette, so you need to use something like a Z-palette to store them in. I love these eyeshadows because they are incredibly pigmented, you can customize your own palette, and only buy what you truly love. The shadow singles shown range in price from $6-$10 each. I hope you enjoy seeing these shadows and if you’d like to see more Makeup Geek reviews or hauls in the future, please let me know in the comments : )

SIMPLE BEAUTY FOR SICK DAYS WHEN YOU CAN’T STAY IN BED!

September 28, 2016 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope that you are having a great Wednesday! Cheers to being halfway through the week! I, unfortunately, have a cold that has me extremely thankful for DayQuil at the moment :X So, I thought I would use this as an opportunity to share my go-to beauty tips for when I’m sick but can’t stay in bed.

GO HEAVY ON CONCEALER BUT LIGHT ON FOUNDATION:

Apply a lot of primer to your nose and use a good concealer because when you’re sick your nose tends to look red fast. I like to also go heavy on the under eye concealer, because my under eye circles tend to be worse when I’m sick. I often skip foundation when I’m sick, or use a light mineral or powder foundation because if you’re dehydrated foundation can look cake-y very fast.

BRIGHTEN YOUR COMPLEXION:

I like to use a bronzer with a hint of shimmer to warm up my face. I use a little bit of blush but skip highlighter because I don’t want to draw extra attention to my tired eyes or skin.

NEUTRALIZE YOUR EYES:

I pat a neutral brown color all over my kid or do a very natural look without shimmer when I’m not feeling well that helps cover any redness or unevenness on my lids . I don’t want sparkle or shimmer to draw too much attention to my tired or red eyes. I apply a lot of mascara to my top lashes but just a tiny bit (if any) to my lower lashes to help keep the focus away from my under eye area.

PAMPER YOUR POUT:

Lips can be tricky because if you have a nasty cough, you may want to stick to a simple balm or gloss to avoid a lipstick mess. I like to wear a bright colored lip balm or balm stain because it helps moisturize my lips, it is low maintenance, and it makes my face look brighter and more healthy.

SOME OF MY MAKEUP FAVORITES FOR SICK DAYS:
