COPY MY STYLE | WEDDING GUEST DRESS, HAIR, AND MAKEUP

September 28, 2020 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of attending an engagement party that was aaaaactually a SURPRISE WEDDNG for one of my dearest friends, my Littleton, my sorority sister and “little”. I love an excuse to dress up and drink bubbly while hanging onto a hunk of candy (hubster), so today I wanted to share my details with you today.

THE DRESS

I am so thankful for my daughter (she is 9 but legit has better style than most adults and puts together things I would have never thought of) and one of my other best friends who I trust to tell me “Girl, no” or, for this one “HELL YES!” which I appreciate endlessly.

I rarely order from ASOS, but I need to more often. It is priced similarly to H&M, and I like this dress as much as ones I have paid (or swooned over) from Nordstrom for quadruple the cost.

Shop the ASOS DESIGN halter neck pleated maxi dress in rust here.

THE MAKEUP

FUN FACT: I am obsessed with Hilary Duff. I am not one who would stand in line forever to meet a celeb or flip out if I touched one (I mean, if I touched JT I’m sure I might. I’d try to keep the chill but COMEON) but I love her. During quarantine and the summer months I’ve really embraced only a few dabs of concealer, a tiny bronzer because I’m super fair, and mascara, but the handful of times I’ve worn a full-face it has been my copycat of this Hilary Duff Vanity Fair makeup tutorial. I don’t have all of the products, but my makeup collection is large enough that I have something similar and make it work.

My FAVORITE Lip Liner! Seriously, buy it. I have had it for years and it’s a stub now and still going strong. It works with any nude or pinky nude lipstick. THE BEST.

THE HAIR

I curled all of my hair with a Nume wand and let the curls set completely (hello Shirley Temple at the Rest Areas. oh well) and then add a little bit of my beloved Batiste Dry Styling Plumping Powder that gives me alllllllll the sexy volume! *Note: I didn’t like this when I had long hair but with my lob? LOVE! I also tip my head upside down and finger comb it so that the curls and volume look natural…I woke up like this, clearly.

Where is your go-to place for dresses for special events?

The gift because I love an excuse to curate a basket!

Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow Review

October 14, 2019 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

The crisp fall breeze is in the air, a reminder of the approaching holiday season. I have been reaching for my Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow and think that it is the perfect gift for and makeup item to have in your beauty arsenal for festive holiday looks.

Stila Glitter & Glow Eye Shadow

This long-wearing sparkle eye shadow combines the mix of pearl and glitter to give your eyes incredible shimmer.  With its lightweight, water-infused texture, Glitter & Glow glides on effortlessly, then dries down smoothly, locking in sparkle with minimal fallout.

Why I Love It

I like to use the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow to top off my eye looks, and adding just a bit to the center of the lid can create a gorgeous finishing touch to the look. I also love that I can use a few dabs of the liquid glitter on top of a shadow primer or base and I get a gorgeous look that is impressive looking but really only took a minute. These would be a wonderful gift and fits perfectly in a stocking. You can find them sold individually or in sets at Sephora, Ulta, or online.

My Routine

I use the doe foot applicator to dab it on the center of my lid when I am using the glitter as a finishing touch to an eye shadow look. When I am using the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow for a quick eye look, I use an eye shadow primer or an eye shadow base like this one and then put the liquid glitter shadow on top and blend it with a synthetic eye shadow brush.

Not Your Mother’s Blonde Moment Seal & Protect Leave-In Review

July 1, 2019 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

As a blonde, I am always trying to stop brassy blonde, so I am always on the hunt for purple shampoos, purple conditioners, and other purple hair products for blondes. My stylist at Ulta Beauty suggested I try the Not Your Mother’s Blonde Moment Seal & Protect Leave-In.

About Not Your Mother’s Blonde Moment Seal & Protect Leave-In

This product is suggested as the third step in the “Blonde Moment” regimen by Not Your Mother’s after the shampoo and conditioner. This product claims to help maintain your blonde weeks after coloring or highlighting. This is formulated with a pastel violet pigment to continue to combat brassy undertones and detangle unruly hair.

My Thoughts

I always use a leave-in spray after washing my hair, so this was an easy product to work into my hair washing routine. I love the way this smells and found it did help untangle, but not as well as the It’s a 10 which is my usual go-to. I spray it quite heavily at the ends and do less as I go up my hair and near my scalp. I try to apply Not Your Mother’s Blonde Moment Seal & Protect Leave-In in the areas where I get the most orange blonde or brassy blonde. I do think that adding this to my favorite purple shampoo and favorite purple conditioner helps keep the brass at bay. I will continue to use this, but my search for the products to keep brass out of my blonde hair isn’t over.

What products do you use to keep your blonde hair brass-free? I would love to hear your suggestions in the comments! If there is a product you’d like me to review, please let me know that as well!

Cetaphil Pro Oily Skin Oil Absorbing Moisturizer | Best S.P.F Moisturizer For Oily Skin

June 24, 2019 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday! And Happy Summer : )

I have oily/combo skin and it can be hard to find an S.P.F for my face that doesn’t make me an oil slick or cause breakouts, so I often use a moisturizer and then add a face S.P.F over it. But that adds another step to my morning routine and requires me to purchase two products.

About Cetaphil Pro Oily Skin Oil Absorbing Moisturizer

*Note: This product was previously called Cetaphil DermaControl Moisturizer.

On their website, it says that the Cetaphil PRO Oil Absorbing Moisturizer SPF 30 is clinically proven to absorb oil. It soothes dry skin and reduces shine while moisturizing skin. This broad spectrum formula protects against the sun’s harmful rays and UV damage.

Product Claims

  • Specially formulated for oily skin to relieve dryness and soften skin
  • 4-in-1 formula to help absorb oil, reduce shine, hydrate and provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection
  • Contains Oleosome technology™ which uses a lower concentration of sunscreen filters for less irritation and greater hydration
  • Micropearl technology absorbs surface oil, helps reduce shine and gives skin a matte finish
  • Lightweight, non-greasy, absorbs quickly
  • Available size: 4oz

My Thoughts

FINALLY! I love this product! I use this daily on my face, décolletage, and hands. I have not experienced any breakouts with this product, and while I don’t find that it makes my skin extra matte, it doesn’t make me oily any faster like a lot of other face sunscreens I have tried.

My Routine

I wash my face (this is my favorite drugstore cleanser), use a toner (this one!), my brightening eye cream (this one), and then finally I use 1-2 pumps of the Cetaphil Pro Oily Skin Oil Absorbing Moisturizer in circular, upwards motions.

NADINE WEST UNBOXING |AFFORDABLE STYLE SUBSCRIPTION

April 8, 2019 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you’re feeling excited and ready for a fresh, new week! I went to a concert over the weekend with one of my dearest friends and it has me feeling so positive as I start a new week.  I have shared my outfits from Nadine West before on my blog (read the posts here). Nadine West sent me this box for my consideration for review but I was not paid to write this post and as always all opinions are my own.

What is Nadine West?

NadineWest.com is a company that sends you an outfit to try on and you keep only what you love. The outfit is a surprise, but you take a style quiz and the stylists get to know your style more each month. The outfits are affordable with pieces costing about $10-$30 each, which is very affordable compared to other similar services.

How Does It Work?

On the Nadine West website, you take the style quiz so that the stylist can get to know what you are looking for in an outfit. You will receive a pink package in the mail with your personalized outfit. Try on the outfit and keep what you love and send back what you don’t.

My Thoughts

The style quiz was super easy to do, which was great because I wanted something that didn’t take too much time but I was still able to make notes to make sure the stylist knew my preferences. I really loved the surprise aspect of this, and it was like opening up a girly gift from a really stylish friend. I cannot stand having to return things, it is such a bummer, but I LOVE the way this company does it because your outfit comes with return shipping.

Discount Code

Use the referral code “Nadine” on NadineWest.com (not an affiliate code for me, just sharing the one they currently have on their website) to waive your shipping fee which means you’ll get your outfit in the mail without paying anything!

What Did I Get?

I received a pink short sleeve shirt with shoulder cutouts, a creme floral top with puffy sleeve details, a red and white striped blazer with red roses, a red floral teeshirt, a blue floral strapless dress, a gray pencil skirt, black and white plaid pants, a navy and gold necklace, and gold dangly earrings.

What Did I Like? What Missed the Mark?

This month I got one piece that I am OVER THE MOON IN LOVE WITH! I could have gotten just this piece and I would have been happy! It’s a lightweight drape open-front black and white striped blazer with red roses on it. If you read this blog often, you know that I wear mostly neutral colors and the patterns I prefer are the standbys like stripes, dots, and leopard, but the pop of red from the roses is just enough on the neutral colored blazer! It’s super cute for work, date night, or a cocktail with the girls! I also like the pink short sleeve but wish it didn’t have the shoulder cutouts. The creme floral top is so stunning! I am not crazy about the floral pattern, but the fit of the shirt and the puffy sleeve detail is so perfect. I do not care for the red floral top on my skin tone. I also don’t like the plaid pants because while plaid pants are so in this year, I wish they were a more traditional trouser style instead of a legging/pant mix. The dress is very cute, but floral isn’t my thing. The skirt is a great basic.

Final Thoughts

I love getting my Nadine West box each month! Most months I get a few things that I love, but I do wish that there was a simple form to update style preferences or check-in each month to see what I’d like to find in my box. I hope that I will continue to get neutral pieces that fit my style and delicate jewelry that works with my sense of style. I would love to see some simple maxi dresses for spring, too.

Have you tried any fashion boxes like this? Have you tried Nadine West? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

Have a wonderful rest of your week! I’ve missed posting on Wednesdays, but I am so glad to be here with you once each week. Thank you for reading! xx

LeahTackles Turns 5! What’s Next?

March 11, 2019 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you’re having a wonderful start to your week, and enjoying a little extra sunshine with daylight savings time. Today I want to share my thoughts on celebrating FIVE YEARS of LeahTackles.com and share what my plans are for the future of this blog.

In 2012 I began watching YouTube videos and became obsessed with the beauty community on YouTube. I had watched YouTube for a few years before, but in 2012 I was going through the hardest season of my life when we found out that our second child, who I was 27 weeks pregnant with, would likely be stillborn or be born shortly after birth. Connor is now six years old, and while much about is future is still unknown, with the help of intensive programs and therapies, is a kindergarten in a mainstream classroom. I began watching beauty YouTube videos during a time when I didn’t wear makeup, didn’t leave the house, and if it wasn’t for my toddler I wouldn’t have gotten out of bed. It may seem odd, but watching this videos was the perfect mini escape from reality, and for someone who had written “zines” in middle school on AOL (dating myself, much? I do turn 32 tomorrow) and always loved beauty products, it was a form of comfort.

I loved watching YouTube videos but knew my strength as a writer, so I decided when Connor was about one-year-old that I wanted to start a blog. My YouTube came about a year later. If you know my personality at all, I research everything, so naturally, I researched a lot and had my blog ready to go before the launch. It was close to my birthday, so I thought that my 27th birthday would be the perfect time to post my first post and share it with the world (or a handful of friends and my mama, but you get me). I was about 11 weeks pregnant with our third child, but miscarried days before my birthday. I knew driving to the emergency room with my husband deep down in my gut that we had lost our baby. I hadn’t had morning sickness for a few days, and I just felt it. Sadly, I was right, and on March 11th, 2014 I had a D&C. I’ll never forget the nurse asking my birthday and then her looking at me and saying, “Oh Honey” because it was the day before my birthday. I remember sitting in bed on my birthday eating an appalling number of Twix bars and deciding that I was still going to post my blog post. I clicked “Post Publish” with the “public” checkbox marked, shared on Facebook, and anxiously waited. Thankfully, people were incredibly supportive and a few even subscribed.

For the first bit of the blog I posted three times each week, and then cut back to two posts a week. I am extremely proud to say that in five years, no matter what we had going on surgery with babies, surgeries, career changes, and vacations I NEVER MISSED A BLOG POST! So, today I celebrate 550 posts! Woot Woot!

What’s next? So much has changed in five years, and I have gone through seasons where I can’t wait to share a blog post or beauty video on my LeahTacklesBeauty Instagram, and seasons where it feels like a chore. However, I don’t regret for a second having half a decade of writing samples, dedication, and love poured out in my keyboard. I now am working full time with my husband running our custom screen printing company The Mitten Print Shop, as a social media manager for small businesses and as a coach passionate about helping entrepreneurs with self-care and mental health. I am trying to make choices with how I spend my time based on what energizes me, and while sometimes the blog certainly hasn’t, whenever the idea of stopping the blog ran across my mind I was so sad instead of relieved. So, I have decided to cut back to one post each week so that I can give you my very best writing, time, and energy. I do not take lightly that some of you take precious time out of your life to read and engage with my content. I am SO THANKFUL and appreciate you. My gratitude for the continued support is huge. Thank you! I want to continue to give you my best work. I will be using the “extra time” to work with clients and also submit my writing for publication (read my latest published World of Walt article here), and continuing to push my career forward.

So, I’ll be back here, but instead of Wednesday it will be next Monday. Keep tackling each day. Thank you again for being here! xx

Lip Smacker Disney Emoji Lip Balm Review

February 18, 2019 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

If you’re familiar with my YouTube channel you know that I am obsessed with all things Disney and when Disney beauty items come out, I am pretty excited. Today I want to share a product that’s always in my purse.

About Disney Emoji Lip Balm by Lip Smacker

These lip balms have Disney character inspired characters, give the lips a little shine and are moisturizing. Lip Smacker® Disney Emoji Flip Balms feature a different emoji expression on each side—that’s one cute character with two different expressions! Flip open to find a deliciously flavored lip balm inside.

My Thoughts

I have several of the Disney Tsum Tsum Lip Smackers and while they’re adorable and have the yummy scents and flavors that Lip Smacker is known for, I rarely use them because 1) They’re clunky and 2) The caps and hard to twist on and off. But these Disney Emoji Lip Smackers? Obsessed! The flavors give me all of the 6th-grade-nostalgia-feels and they offer the perfect moisture for natural makeup days or to wear under lipstick. And the flip open is both functional and fun. I will definitely be buying more and my three little loves are hoping the Easter Bunny gives them some in their baskets.

Shop

Have you tried these? What is your favorite Lip Smacker flavor? Any Dr. Pepper Lip Smacker fans?

WET BRUSH PADDLE HAIR BRUSH VS. ORIGINAL WET BRUSH | WHICH IS BETTER?

January 2, 2019 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Happy New Year! I hope that 2019 feels fresh and full of possibilities! I would like to challenge you to do something that scares and excites your this year every month. I stated by signing up for a course that I’m not sure I’m ready for but I’m deciding to tell myself that my nerves are actually just excitement. Coffee clinks and champagne cheers to 2019!

I have long hair, and I have been a Wet Brush user for years! I have purchased several, on average about one each year (which works out to less than 0.20 cents a week or in my case about a penny every time I use it) because the brushes are still in great shape, but literally dusty with dry shampoo gunk since I am self-proclaimed dry shampoo crazy. I needed a new Wet Brush, and I saw the Wet Brush Paddle Hair Brush on Amazon for about $1 more than the Original Wet Brush Oval Brush and decided that because it has more surface area it might be helpful for my very long hair.

My Thoughts

It doesn’t look like that much of a difference in surface area when you compare the Wet Brush Paddle Hair Brush vs. the Wet Brush Oval Brush but I was blown away by the difference. I like both brushes for combing through my hair (something I do several times a day when my hair is down), but when my hair is wet out of the shower and I’m trying to comb product though (almost always my go-to favorite is the It’s a 10 Leave-In Treatment) I noticed that the Wet Brush Paddle Hair Brush combed through my long, fine but thick hair in record time! I think both Wet Brushes are fantastic, and I will continue to use both, and will never ever ever go back to the days of my gigantic wide-tooth comb incredibly time consuming old way of combing out my wet hair.

My Routine

I do not use the Wet Brush in the shower, but you totally could depending on your preferences, but after I shampoo and condition my hair, I squeeze in out with my hands and wrap it in a hair towel (I like this one and this one) but do not rub my hair with the towel because that can damage you hair. I like my hair dry in the hair towel while I apply lotion or sunless tanner, do my nighttime skincare routine, and brush my teeth. Once I am in my pajamas (these are my current favorites) I take my hair out of the towel, squeezing to absorb as much as I can into the towel, and then spray it with any product I am using before combing it out with my Wet Brush Paddle Hair Brush. I start at the root of my hair and gently work my way down to my ends.

Which Is Better?

I don’t think you will miss with either brush, but for me the paddle brush has the edge because it makes it even faster for me to brush out my wet hair. I think if your hair is shoulder length of longer the paddle brush is the winner.

Shop

Have you tried the Wet Brush? What is your favorite detangling brush? What is your go-to hair product? Please share in the comments so we can learn from each other : ) As always, thank you reading, and have a wonderful weekend! xx

Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Volume 2 | The BEST Mascara I’ve Ever Used!

December 26, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I hope you had a wonderful holiday with your loved ones! I hope you are still enjoying family time, and today I don’t want to take up too much of your time, but I am so excited to share a mascara I’ve been using for a few weeks that has been the BEST mascara I’ve used in my 15+ years wearing makeup. *Note: It was snowing beautiful, Hallmark Christmas Movie moment snowflakes when I took these pictures! It was magical!

About Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Volume 2

Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Volume 2 is a volumizing, thickening mascara with an instant Hollywood false lash effect. Legendary Lashes Volume 2 is a brand new reformulated mascara to give volumized lashes in a long-wear, smudge-proof, humidity-resistant formula that claims to increase volume by up to 507 percent after just one application. The intense jet black color will add the finishing touches to any eye makeup. This mascara claims you can create a wing lash, doll lash, or Hollywood-style false lash depending on how you apply. This mascara is made without parabens.

My Thoughts

I absolutely adore this mascara. I do not like when mascara looks spidery or clumpy, but I love having very dramatic, full and long lashes, and this mascara gives me that. I prefer mascaras that are more on the wet side, because I do not like the feeling of a dry mascara flaking off, and this is a very wet formula. Because this mascara gives the most volume and length I have ever seen in just one or two coats, I do have to be careful that I use a q-tip to fix where the lashes have touched my brow bone or eyelid. I absolutely LOVE this mascara and while it’s pricey, I am amazed at the difference this makes! This Charlotte Tilbury Mascara makes me want to try other Charlotte Tilbury makeup.

My Routine

I apply one coat of this mascara on my upper lashes, being careful near my inner eye so I don’t smudge, and then I have used this on my lower lashline, but some days it is too dramatic so I will actually use a less dramatic mascara on my lower lashes, and then I like to do another coat on the outside of my upper lashes to give a fluttery, false lash effect.

Shop

What is your favorite mascara? Please let me know! xx

Wet n’ Wild Perfect Pout Gel Lip Liner 651B Bare To Comment | Affordable Pinky Nude Lip Liner

December 5, 2018 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Thank you for taking a few minutes out of your day to read my blog : ) I love trying out different lip products and colors, especially a great red for the holiday season, but my go-to-never-fails-me lip is a pinky nude. My favorite lip liner for my nude lipsticks has been Bobbi Brown Lip Liner in Nude because it lasts forever on my lips and my lip color doesn’t bleed at all. I recently shared my review of the Wet n’ Wild Liquid Catsuit Liquid Lipsticks and was so impressed that I decided to try out the Wet n’ Wild Perfect Pout Gel Lip Liner, so today I want to share my thoughts with you.

About the Wet n’ Wild Perfect Pout Gel Lip Liner

This lip liner claims to be like no other because it is made with a special polymer formula so seamlessly glides onto lips and leaves color that wears for a very long time. You can wear alone or with a lipstick. This is the first gel lip liner from Wet n’ Wild.

  • Seamlessly glides onto lips and leaves lasting color
  • Smooth, flawless application
  • Specially formulated with proprietary polymer and ester complex

My Thoughts

I love how this goes on without tugging my lips and it feels very creamy. The creamy feeling doesn’t feel like it will bleed or smear, but it doesn’t feel as sharp as some of my more dry pencil liners. I love that this twists up without any need to sharpen and is retractable. I love that I can fill in my lips completely with this or just  line my lips with it, and the color is perfect for any nude lipstick. I also like that this is easy to touch-up as needed during the day, but in general has excellent wear.

My Routine

Before applying any lip products I always start with a thin layer of a lip balm like this. I then line my lips with my Wet n’ Wild Perfect Pout Gel Liner in Bare To Comment before applying my lipstick of the day.
