HOW-TO COVER ZITS and DARK CIRCLES | CONCEALER THAT STAYS ALL DAY

August 2, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my blog : )

In the heat of the summer I often find that I don’t want to wear a liquid foundation, but some days I still want to cover blemishes, imperfections, and other dark circles with concealer but then skip foundation and just set my concealer with a powder. One of my rediscovered favorites this summer has been the HardCandy Glamoflauge concealer.

Packaging

This concealer comes in a squeeze tube, which I love because it is easy to get every last bit out and is also hygienic. It also comes with a shade matched pencil, which can be used to outline a tattoo (*Note: though I haven’t tried covering a tattoo with this, I have seem impressive pictures online) or zit before using the creamy concealer.

Shade Range and Cost

This concealer boasts an impressive 15 color shade range and costs about $6 at Walmart stores, but can also be purchased on amazon for about $12.

Why I love It

A little goes a VERY long way! This works well to cover my dark circles as well as any blemishes or redness.

My Routine

I always squeeze the tube before opening it to mis the concealer a bit before each use because the concealer can come out a bit oily and watery if you skip doing this. I use my fingers to dot a bit onto areas I want to conceal and then use a cheap makeup sponge or a damp beauty sponge (like the Micro Mini Beauty Blender) to blend it into the skin. Be careful, you only need a *tiny* bit! If you do apply too much, you can use a stippling brush like this one to blend it into the skin if it is too much for your sponge to handle.

Shop

Have you tried this concealer? What is your favorite heavy duty concealer? Do you apply concealer with your fingers, a sponge, or a brush? Let’s chat in the comments! xx

WHAT IS ROOT SHADING? FALL READY HAIR COLOR

July 31, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend spent in the sun with those you love!

I got my hair color touched up at the end of last week, and decided to change up my color a bit for fall. I love the ombré look, and chatted to my stylist who suggested taking my roots a shade darker, a.k.a doing a little root shading. If you want to see my beauty content first, be sure to follow My Beauty Instgram account!

Root Shading vs. Ombre

Ombre and Root Shading are definitely similar. Root shading is the technique of adding darker color to the root area of the hair.

Ombre is a technique where highlights are put underneath in the ends the ends of the hair.

Why I Love Root Shading

I love that this will help soften the stark contrast as my roots grow in, and I love having super blonde ends but a bit darker, ashy blonde on the top.

Regrets?

I am a bit nervous for the next time I get it touched up because it will bring the darker color down further, but so far I am having no real regrets and am loving the look!

My Results

Have you heard of root shading? Have you tried ombre hair? Do you get your hair colored at the salon? What is your favorite hair trend? Let us know in the comments! Thank you for reading and please consider subscribing if you liked this post : )

ARE YOU USING DRY SHAMPOO THE WRONG WAY?

July 19, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Thank you for spending some time to read my blog! If you’re ever watched My YouTube Product Empties, you know I am a dry shampoo addict! I use dry shampoo nearly every day, but to be more specific, I  more often use it at *night*…if you want to know why, keep reading!

When To Use Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo must be used only when your hair is completely dry. Dry shampoo absorbs the oil produced by your scalp, and it cannot do that if your hair is wet.  The best time to use dry shampoo is before bedtime because it will absorb the oil in your hair while you are sleeping. Using your hair in the morning is fine, but not as effective. You can also use dry shampoo to add texture and volume to your scalp! I like to add a little dry shampoo when my hair is very clean and slippery when drying to curl it to give it a little extra body.

My Routine

I shower every night but only wash my hair every other day, or every couple of days, so on days when I do not wash it I wear a shower cap (this one works great for long hair) and then apply this dry shampoo to the roots. If it has been a couple of days since my last shampoo, I go really heavy to the point where my hair looks like it is gray at the roots, because I do tend to get oily on my scalp. I will touch up with dry shampoo in the morning, but typically use it at night before bed.  Be sure to not miss the nape of you neck!

Are you a dry shampoo addict like me? Were you using dry shampoo the right way? Will you start using it at night now? Let me know! xx

HOW-TO DO A CUTE MESSY BUN FOR LONG HAIR

July 17, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you guys had a fun-filled weekend! I have been wearing my hair up in a messy bun a lot lately because it is perfect on hot days, and it also has been working well for when I go to yoga.

The Look

My Routine

I put my hair in a very high ponytail using a hair elastic that matches my hair color. I like to lay on my bed on my back with my head hanging off the edge so I can get my hair smooth and in a high pony easily.

I then hold the end of my ponytail and twist in a couple of times before wrapping it around the base of it as if I was making a bun.

I hold then bun with one hand and use another elastic with my other hand, often a more fun one because this one will show, to secure the messy bun.

I try to make it so it isn’t too perfect, and then if needed loosen the bun and mess it up a little to get a cute look.

Do you like this look? Let me know if you try it! Tag me on social media (linked at the bottom of this post) if you try it : ) Thank you, as always, for reading my beauty blog.

Esteé Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Powder Foundation Review

July 11, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I mentioned in Monday (read that post here) that my usual summer makeup is more minimal, and a lot of days I just wear concealer or a mineral foundation. I had purchased the Esteé Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Powder Foundation (see the video where I haul it here) to use as a setting powder, but decided to try it for a light coverage on summer days, and it turns out I LOVE IT!

Packaging

This is typical powder compact packing with a button to open the compact and a mirror inside. The powder and mirrior are are what you see when opening the compact, but the powder flips up to reveal a cosmetic sponge which can be handy in a pinch, but to me is mostly wasted space because I do not use the sponge and would rather a slimmer compact. The plastic is navy blue the signature Esteé Lauder “EL” cursive logo in gold on the top. I like the navy and gold packing, it isn’t as sleek as some other brands, but it is classic and somehow comforting (I think it reminds me of walking the makeup counters with my mother as a kid).

Shade Range and Cost

$42 for .45 oz

There are 26 colors in the range and I have been using the shade 1N2 Light Ivory Beige with Neutral Undertones (I am typically 1C1 Cool Bone in their liquid foundations).

Why I Love It

Some days I go without a foundation, but I do tend to get oily in my t-zone, so I like a bit of powder to stop the shine.  I love that I can apply this as quickly as I would any other powder to both combat the oil and also give me a little extra coverage.

Wear

This is a very natural looking light to medium coverage powder foundation that helps me even my skin and combat shine. This is super fast when I just want a touch of makeup to give me that “no-makeup makeup” summer look that I love.

Shop

You can purchase this from Sephora, Ulta, and department stores.

Have you tried this? What is your go-to “no-makeup makeup” item? I would love to hear about it in the comments! xx

THE BEST LIQUID LIPSTICK? | NOW EASILY ACCESSIBLE!

July 5, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

It’s hump day already, yay! I hope that if you’re here in the U.S.A, that you had a wonderful and safe Fourth of July.

I LOVE liquid lipstick, and have tried a *lot* of them. I had heard really great things from fellow bloggers, my YouTube friends, and “real-life” friends about Dose of Colors liquid lipsticks, but because they weren’t widely available at mass retailers I typically shop at, I hadn’t taken the plunge to order them. Now, however, they’re available at Ulta.com, so I ordered my first one to try out…and as you may have guessed by the spoiler alert title of this post, I am OBSESSED.

About the Brand

In May of 2013 Dose of Colors was launched by freelance makeup artist Anna Petrosian. Dose of Colors is cruelty-free company (that means they don’t test on animals) and is also vegan. The liquid lipsticks are also gluten free and paraben free.

Shade Range and Cost

This liquid lipstick cost $18 which is comparable to other high-end liquid lipsticks. There are 25 shades in the range, and I picked up the color “Stone” which is a pinky-nude, a go to for me on a daily basis.

First Impressions and Packaging

The liquid lipstick is in a frosted bottle with the color of the lipstick showing through. The bottle is the same size and shape as a Jeffree Star Cosmetics liquid lipstick if you are familiar with those, just about half an inch longer than a regular tube of lipstick. The applicator is awesome, it fits onto the lips perfectly and I like how it’s easy to stay on the lips.

Wear

This lipstick feels incredible on the lips! The website states a velvet matte finish, which I do agree is accurate. It is matte, but it doesn’t dry down completely, which I liked because it didn’t settle into every single line on my lips, or looked dry and cracked. I was able to wear this lipstick for an entire day without touching up! My preference is still to touch up midday, especially if I’ve eating salad because salad dressing or other oily foods can breakdown even the best liquid lipsticks, but I love that I can put this on and not think about it or worry about touching up.

My Routine

I use a little EOS lip balm, line my lips with a lip liner, and then apply one coat of my Dose of Color liquid lipstick. I love that this lipstick gives me full opacity in one coat, because I do not like having to layer on liquid lipsticks because I find that always makes my lips appear and feel very dry. I re-apply midday and then remove when I take off all of my makeup for my night routine.

Final Thoughts

I hope that Ulta.com gets a high volume of sales so that they begin testing Dose of Color in stores! I cannot wait to pick up more of these, and it has sky-rocketed to the top of my liquid lipstick favorites list in just a couple of weeks.

Shop

You can now shop some of the Dose of Colors collection at Ulta.com or you can view the entire collection at DoseofColors.com

URBAN DECAY NAKED HEAT PALETTE YAY OR NAY REVIEW

July 3, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you had a great weekend, and maybe you are even still on a long weekend, and that you’re excited for the holiday tomorrow if you’re here in the United States.

Urban Decay is well respected in the makeup world, and is most famous of their Naked eyeshadow palettes. The Naked collection has grown exponentially in the past few years, and now there is a brand new line called Naked Heat. I knew as soon as I heard the name of this collection teased before even seeing pictures that I would probably love it, because the word “heat” made me think of clay oranges and sunset reds which I love but are lacking in the other Naked eye shadow palettes. The collection also has new lipsticks and eye liners.

Packaging

If you’re familiar with the Naked Smokey palette, then this packaging is very similar to that. The hard plastic is easy to clean, the magnetic closure keeps these beauties safe, and has a beautiful gradient of golds, reds, and oranges.

Swatches

Ounce, Chaser, Sauced, Low Blow, Lumbre, He Devil

Dirty Talk, Scorched, Cayenne, En Fuego, Ashes, Ember

How gorgeous are these? This palette is a nice mix of mattes and shimmers, and the warm colors are stunning. The shades swatched well with both finger and brush swatches, but more importantly looked beautiful on the eyes. The matte shades especially are buttery and easy to blend.

My Thoughts

Simply put, this is the kind of product that ignites (see what I did there?!) my love for makeup, and makes me excited to get ready each day. I like that I can do a gorgeous, deep look, a basic neutral eye (“Chaser” is a perfect blending color), or a one-and-done shadow look with one of the gorgeous shimmer shades (“Dirty Talk” in the crease is STUNNING). I am swooning, and I think they knocked this one out of the park. I give this a very big YAY!

No Filter, No Flash, and Natural Lighting

Shopping Information

This is available on UrbanDecay.com, Sephora.com, Ulta.com, Macys.com, Nordstrom.com, and will be available in stores July 13th.

I hope that this review was helpful for you! If you would like me to do a tutorial on my LeahTackles YouTube Channel, let me know! Have you gotten this palette or do you plan to? Let me know! xx

MY 7 MOST USED HIGH-END MAKEUP ITEMS | JANUARY-JUNE 2017

June 28, 2017 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

We have made it to the middle of the week! I hope that you enjoyed my post on Monday (if you missed it, you can read it here) where I shared the seven drugstore makeup products I’ve reached for the most so far this year. Today I want to share the seven high-end, more costly, makeup products that I have been using the most so far in 2017. If you like this post, please be sure to share it : ) I have share links at the bottom of every blog post.

Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer in White Out

I love this concealer for brightening my under eye area, and often use this mixed with a light colored concealer so it isn’t quite so harsh. This is a great choice for others with very fair skin like mine who often can’t find a concealer lighter than their skin for brightening the under eye area. You can read my review on this here and see how I brighten my dark circles.

Benefit Cosmetics Boxed Blush in Galifornia

This is a gorgeous blush! I did an entire review on it (read that here) and can’t stop using it! But, why would I?! It is PERFECT for summer!

Make Up For Ever Pro Sculpting Palette in 20

I don’t always contour, but when I want a beautiful cream contour that looks natural, I reach for this! Read this to see how-to do a cream contour.

Becca Cosmetics Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop

This is an item I have been using for a long time (I first spoke about it in 2015 here)

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Taupe

This is my hands-down favorite eyebrow pencil, and it is always a repurchase for me.

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder

This is a pricy powder, but I really think it is worth it! This is super finely milled, doesn’t look cakey, and keeps my oily t-zone in check!

Bobbi Brown Lip Liner in Nude

I absolutely love to rock a nude lip, and this lip liner works with any nude lipstick or gloss! You can read my tips for wearing a nude lip here.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your life to read my blog! It means so much to me!! xx
