Too Faced Peanut Butter and Jelly Palette Review! Do you need it?

May 9, 2016 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend! I got lots of extra special hugs and love from my little loves and my husband : ) My kids somehow managed to buy me a little something from Ulta (thanks Stephan!) and I am so excited to share it with you today! At the end of February Too Faced Cosmetics released the Peanut Butter and Jelly palette and even though I wanted it I wondered if it was really something I *needed*. Do you *need* the Peanut Butter and Jelly palette? Keep reading and you can decide.

The Packaging:

This palette comes in the cute tin packaging that the nine shadow palettes from Too Faced typically come in. The packaging is OH SO ADORABLE! I can’t even handle the cuteness! I mean, the piece of bread on the tin has lashes and jelly colored lips…hello cuteness overload! I also think these tins are perfect for traveling and putting into your makeup bag.

The Basics:

This palette has three shadows that are 2.0 grams each and six shadows that are 0.9 grams each. There are three matte shades and six shimmer shades, though one of the shimmer shades is almost matte but has just the tinniest bit of shimmer. And this product does not contain actual nuts but does have the ever so faint peanut butter scent mixed with the yummy cocoa powder scent we know and love from other Too Faced products.

The Shadows:

The shadows swatch beautifully! They are all super pigmented and a little shadow goes a long way! I have only used this twice so far, but both times I was tapping off my brush because the pigmentation was so great that I didn’t need much product at all. This palette was inspired by the shadow Peanut Butter that gained a cult following from the Too Faced Semi Sweet palette. I love putting Peanut Butter or Nuts About U in the crease and smudging Jelly on my lower lash line.

Do You Need It?

You might have dupes for these if you own a lot of eye shadow palettes, but I really love having smaller palette like this filled with gorgeous warm toned shadows that I know will get me lots of fun looks. I think this is a great too because you can do a lot of quick looks with this and the How-To Glamour Guide it comes with is helpful too. If you don’t like warm toned eye shadows, definitely pass because this eye shadow palette is very warm toned! Think peanut butter, jelly, and nutty red colors!

Buy It:

You can buy the Peanut Butter and Jelly palette at Ulta Beauty or on TooFaced.com

My Favorite Eyebrow Product!

February 3, 2016 & 2 Comments

Hi there! Happy Wesnesday!

I am constantly changing up my makeup, and lately I’ve really been loving my brows! I’ve used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow on and off for about a year, but just recently I’ve been using it nonstop.

browroutine-leahtackles.jpeg

What I Do:

I comb my brows in the general direction I want them to be with a spoolie brow brush (basically a brush that looks like a clean mascara wand). Then I dip my brush into my Dip Brow Pomade in Taupe and hold the brush vertical to brush the brow hairs closest to my nose up in their natural direction. I then use the brush horizontally and outline the lower part of my brows and then use the brush to push that product up so that I don’t end up using too much or creating too harsh of a look. I then usually set my brows with a clear brow gel, just incase they decide to get crazy ; )

Why I Love It:

I can get big, full, and defined brows without them looking overly harsh or painted on. I definitely always go lighter than you would think you need and slightly lighter than your brows to avoid them looking too harsh. A lot of people think they should buy their exact brow color, but I have had much better results going a bit lighter than my natural brows.

As always, thank you for reading! I hope that you have a wonderful weekend!

YOUR BEAUTY QUESTIONS ANSWERED! FIRST EVER LEAHTACKLES BEAUTY Q&A!

December 30, 2015 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I have never done a question & answer blog post, and I do get friends and readers asking me questions on a fairly regular basis (and I’m honored every time!), so I decided to do my first ever LeahTackles Q&A! This one is beauty related, but feel free to ask any questions you have for me in the comments for my next Q&A! You can also ask me on social media, or via email if that makes you more comfortable. This first handful of questions is from my sweet friend Tammy who sent me an email with a big list, some of which I’ll tackle today. I do have more questions, but I don’t want this to be too long, so I’ll save them for the next time.

firsteverBeautyQandA-LeahTackles.jpeg

1. Do you have tips for applying Younique 3D Fiber Mascara? I always seem to get fibers in my eyes! How many coats of the gel and lashes do you suggest I use?

2. How much should I tip my hair stylist? What about for facial waxing?

I always tip my stylists, and anyone who I tip, 20%.

3. How should I clean my hair brushes?

This is SUCH a great question! For years I was guilty of just pulling out the hairs and that was that. Hair brushes harbor grease, dust, and dirt which then you re-deposit back onto you hair every time you use a dirty brush! Um, YUCK!!? If the brush is plastic, I  remove the hair (you can use a teasing comb pick if it’s really stuck) and then soak in in a baking soda mixture bristle side down in a bowl. If it’s really bad, I make a little mix of water, baking soda, and shampoo and then brush with a toothbrush. If the brush is made of wood, you want to be careful about soaking it! If you don’t mind the smell, you could use a few drops of Tea Tree oil mixed with water to clean the brush.

4. Do you suggest a pencil or powder for brows?

My absolute favorite brow product of all time is the Anastasia Beverley Hills Brow Wiz eye brow pencil. I was terrified of brow pencils until trying this one, and it’s a miracle worker!! I also like the It Cosmetics Universal Eyebrow Pencil now, too. To answer the pencil vs. powder debate, I’m going to cheat. On a day when I have time, or for a special occasion, I use both! I use the powder by my nose where my brows start for a more natural look for those baby hairs, and then use a pencil to define the arch and finish the tail of the brow. But everyday? I use one or the other! I also like to set my brows with a clear brow gel.

5. I’ve always had the problem where my under eye area gets dark & smudgy looking after only an hour or two of wearing eye makeup. Am I applying the wrong products?

After apply foundation and concealer, I like to set my makeup with a powder. I also usually set my under eye concealer with a brightening powder. E.L.F Studio High Definition Undereye Setting Powder is a great drug store option, and Laura Mercier Secret Brighting Powder a fantastic one as well and something that lasts a very long time. I always start with either an eye shadow base or an eye shadow primer when doing my eye makeup, even if I’m only swiping one color on my lids that day. I am a HUGE fan of the Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24 Hour Shadows! I wear them alone all the time, or as a base for my eye shadows. M.A.C Paint Pots are also great for this. I also always, always, always wear waterproof or water resistant mascara! I like to curl my lashes (on days when I’m not rushing so much) and then apply a coat of Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara in water resistant. I know a lot of people aren’t fans of how hard it is for water proof mascara to come off at night, but I don’t have a big issue with this and love the security of my makeup not running. I often will put waterproof on both my upper and lower lashes, and then add a coat of another mascara to my top lashes. As for eye liner, I always use liquid eye liner! My absolute fav is Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper, but also have great luck with e L’oreal Lineur Intense.

Thank you so much for reading!! I appreciate it so much more than you know : ) Don’t forget to ask me questions!  I hope that you all have a safe, happy, and healthy 2016!! Cheers!

Ipsy Glam Bag | November 2015

November 25, 2015 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Today I want to share my first impressions on my November Ipsy bag. If you subscribe to Ipsy, tell me what you got in the comments! I have canceled Ipsy because I want to try something  else to review for you. I think Nature Box would be a fun subscription to try, bu I let me know what you would like to see me review!
The Bag and Theme:

It’s so 90’s to me! I would never pick this, but the kids think it’s cool! Hailey loves outerspace. The theme is “Beauty Blast” which I don’t quite get, but it’s fun!

Tucker Ashley Perfecting Moisturizer

I am excited to try this! I don’t know anything about it, but I will give it a shot. I like that it’s a generous sized sample.

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara

I am always oh the hunt for the perfect mascara! I’ll add this to my mini mascara spot in my drawer ; )

INSPR Eye Shadow in Carnival (*pictured far left)

I loooove this pinky /brown/taupe color with gorgeous shimmer! I can’t wait to wear this! It feels very soft, too, and wasn’t crumbly when swatched.

Model Co. Highlighting Trio (*pictured second, third, and forth from the left)

These swatch beautifully, but I’m not sure how they will wear. I want to try them as both highlights and an eye shadow base.

Sigma E25 Blending Brush

I have two of this brush already, but it’s my absolute favorite blush for blending out eye shadow, so I love having another! I prefer black makeup brushes, but the pink is fine.  I don’t mind the mini size, and it’ll be cute for traveling.
Overall my Ipsy subscription of 14 months is ending on a high note! I think there is a real possibility I’ll go back to Ipsy : )

Have a great day and to my American friends, Happy  (early) Thanksgiving!

xx

You NEED This Foundation!

November 2, 2015 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you all had a fun Halloween weekend!! My family dressed up as Disney’s The Incredible’s and we had a great time : )

I’m just going to jump right into it today, I have been using a new foundation for the past couple of weeks, and it has shot to the top of my list of foundation favorites!! If there are any drugstore or high-end makeup reviews you’d like to see, please let me know!

L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation:

lorealinfalliblemattefoundation-leahtackles.jpeg

This foundation came out a couple of months ago and I held off. I have had so many drugstore foundations, and this one said “Demi Matte Finish” on the bottle which frankly scares this me since I tend to get oily in my t-zone. I decided that now that it was fall, I would take the plunge and try it out. *Note: Props to my husband for picking this up for me while he was grocery shopping, he really navigates the makeup aisles well as long as I give clear direction! The verdict? I’m in-love with this stuff!

Pros:

-This DOES NOT BUDGE! I couldn’t believe it when I hadn’t had to blot or powder my nose by 1p.m the first day wearing this! That is practically unheard of for me.

-The demi matte finish is actually really beautiful, my skin looks like skin but stays matte

-This gives impressive coverage (medium, not full coverage) but feels really light on the skin

-It’s affordable! Who doesn’t love a good drugstore find

-This doesn’t oxidize on my skin

-It comes in a tube! My first choice is usually a pump, but my second choice is definitely a tube because you can get every last bit of the product out before tossing it

Cons:

-The lightest shade, Classic Ivory, works on me, but the next lightest shade was quite a big jump, so I’m not sure if the color range would work for anyone

-You do have to play around with it, I only use one coat followed up with a concealer instead of adding more foundation, and  apply it with my fingers to avoid a cake-y look

Final Thoughts:

Go buy this! Seriously! I have combo skin and this works beautifully. I’m curious to hear what those with dry skin think, but for me this is a total win!

Have a wonderful start to your week! xo

POPSUGAR MUST HAVE BOX | OCTOBER 2015

October 28, 2015 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Lately I’ve been doing first impression unboxing videos on my YouTube channel, but because I have so many videos that that need to be edited right now I decided to do this months box as a blog post. The PopSugar Must Have Box is a monthly lifestyle subscription box that has food, fashion, beauty, home decor, and exercise goodies for $39 per box.  that If you like seeing PopSugar this way as opposed or in addition to the videos, let me know in the comments.

POPSUGAR MUST HAVE OCTOBER 2015:

Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling

$25

I absolutely love Mindy Kaling’s first book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me, and have listened it to on Audible.com more than once. I hate to admit that I already stored this in our basement, because realistically I don’t have time to read this right now, but I’m happy to have it!

Savvy Sleepers Luxury Satin Pillowcase

$36

I think changing your pillowcase often, and using a satin pillow case are two great ways to keep your skin free from breakouts, and the one I already have isn’t as nice as this one. I am very excited about this, and had just been thinking it was about time for a new one.

Easy, Tiger Brown Paper Liquor Bag Set

$8

I wish I could say I was attending parties where I was bringing alone a nice bottle of wine, but realistically I’m not, however these are adorable and they’ll be saved with my other hostess and housewarming kitchen gear.

Belgian Boys De Stroopwafel

$1.59

This was such a fancy, fun little treat! I shared these with my husband, Stephan, with some tea over the weekend. I love that the waffle sits perfectly over a mug of coffee or tea.

The Honest Company Sea Salt + Sugar Body Scrub

$17

I used this the day that I got it and so far I’m loving it! It’s a great scrub to use before sunless tanning, too. I followed it up with my regular body wash and my skin was super soft!

Richer Poorer Hope Slipper Socks

$15

I absolutely love fuzzy socks, and can always use a new pair. I haven’t worn these yet, but they seem super cozy. It’s nice that some of the proceeds go to support women with breast cancer and that’s a great item for the October box.

Special Extras:

Danielle Stevens Monogram $40 Gift Card

I don’t count this because you have to spend more than it’s worth, but it’s still nice if that was something you were interested in. I do *LOVE* monogrammed jewelry, but I probably won’t use this.

It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In Product Sample

This is the perfect size for traveling and I already use this product every time I wash my hair! I am very happy to have this for (get ready broken record:) Disney : )

TOTAL VALUE: $102.59 not counting the special extras …cutting that “At least $100 value” a tad close this month, but I do think it’s a fun box. I am the most excited about the pillowcase, slipper socks, and body scrub.

Do you subscribe to PopSugar? You can click here to subscribe to PopSugar or find out more. If there are any other subscriptions you are interested in seeing on my blog, please let me know so I can check them out for you! Have a great weekend!!

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Thank you for being here : ) Halloween is in 10 days, and like ir or not it is time to start seriously thinking about your holiday shopping! I want to share some gift guides with you, but would like to ask what you would like to see! So if there is a certain demographic you’re wanting ideas for, please comment and let me know! I love comments ; ) Today I decided to start by sharing one gift idea for each person in my immediate family, but I have a lot more ideas to share. If you enjoy this, please tell me and I will make it a weekly or bi-weekly series as we enter the holiday season.

Tarte Greatest Glitz Collector’s Set & Portable Palettes

$49

How gorgeous as this?! Any women in your life from teens on up would adore this! I love that you could even gift the palettes seperately as stocking stuffers or small gifts, or give the whole set for a fabulous gift for one lucky lady. This set has great pigmentation, and I love that it’s seperated into palettes that have colors that you would use together instead of a giant palette, because I think it’s less intimidating for those who may not be as comfortable with makeup.

Mantry Box

$75 for one box

Stephan got a 3 month subscription of this from my parents back in 2012, and we haven’t got it since because it *is* pretty pricy, but if you have a guy who is hard to shop for I think this is a fun idea! Both Steph and I loved these boxes, and we found our favorite pepperoni EVER, and some incredible fudge sauce that we have re-ordered. My only issue with this box is that the only really discount I’ve seen offered is they offer free shipping if you order a 3 or 6 month subscription. Still, very yummy and something different.

Sophie & Lili Handmade Mermaid Dolls

$20 for the mini

Hailey, who is almost 4 1/2, got a custom Sophie & Lili doll year and it’s so special! She calls her Hailey doll, and one of Santa’s elves worked very hard on her. This year I am hoping Santa will have that same elf make her a mermaid ; ) I love that they offer a mini one that’s half the price of the bigger one! She has adorable custom dolls, watercolors, and super hero boys! I just wish the boys could be custom and not only custom super heros. These are so well made, and she was great to work with!

ALEX Toys Little Hands String a Farm

$15

My 2 almost 3 year old, Connor, is really working on things that need lots of hand-eye coordination and finally I found a stringing toy that has a wood piece for the “needle” to make it a bit easier than floppy string. *Tip: Pipe cleaners from the craft section are also a great way to practice this and kids love it!

ALEX Toys ALEX Jr. My Busy Town Cube

$72

No, this post is not sponsored by ALEX Toys! I just have been loving their toys lately. We have so many big toys, but our baby, Logan, has Christmas and his first birthday coming up, and this is on our list for him. It gets great reviews, and has lots of activities in one. And how cute would this look under the tree!? I think the kids would all want to play with this! Zulily has stuff like this a lot, so I need to keep checking back!

Be sure to let me know what items are on YOUR list in the comments!! Have a great weekend!

IPSY GLAM BAG | OCTOBER 2015

October 19, 2015 & 2 Comments

Hi there! Happy Monday!

The middle of the month always means the same thing, IPSY TIME! I was so excited to rip open this months bag and decided to do it as a blog post instead of a video. If you’d like to see my Ipsy videos you can here on my YouTube channel. If there is a subscription service you would like for me to review or share with you, please let me know in the comments!

IPSY GLAM BAG OCTOBER 2015:

ipsybagoctober2015-leahtackles.jpeg

Theme:

Alter Ego

Bag:

It isn’t my favorite, but it’ll get the job done and I will use it. I do love these bags, they are handy for so many things when organizing or traveling.

Delectable Ultra Nourishing Hand Cream in Coconut Cream:

I was thrilled when I saw this because I needed a new hand cream now that it is getting to be colder and my hands are extra dry. This smells amazing and is really thick and feels pretty luxurious. I will have to see how it works though, because I’ve only used it once.

Aurora Gel Effect Nail Lacquer in Inky Dinky:

I have been wanting to try more gel formula nail polishes, and I love this deep navy color! And how cute is the name?! I believe this is full size too, which is fantastic. I think that there is also a gel top coat that you are supposed to use as a second step, which I don’t have, but I will test it out with a clear top coat.

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion:

I love Dr. Brandt Pores No More primer, and I’ve also tried this Microdermabrasion before and enjoyed it. It’s a decent sample, and I’ll be able to get 5 or more uses out of it.

The Balm Meet Matt(e) Hughes Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick in Committed:

thebalm-liquidlipstick-committed-leahtackles.jpeg

I LOVE The Balm!! It is the makeup that the salon used for my wedding over five years ago, and ever since I’ve been hooked. I also am loving this liquid lipstick trend, and think that this color is a really great nude for fall. I think this is a very wearable color, and has a little bit of that 90’s lip trend going on, which I am a fan of.

Emite Make Up Tweezers:

emitemakeup-tweezers-leahtackles.jpeg

I tested these out and they seem to work really well! I love that they have a little case, and it’s a lot sturdier than the cases that other tweezers I have are packaged in, but the lid doesn’t seem to stay on : ( I think mine is maybe just broken, but it’s a tiny bummer.

Overall:

I love this month! If you are interested, you can find out more about Ipsy here!  I am thinking of canceling my Ipsy bag so that I can get Nature Box to open with Stephan : ) Let me know what you think!! Have a great start to your week! Don’t forget I post every Monday and Wednesday!

DARK LIP STAIN THAT DOESN’T KISS OFF!

October 12, 2015 & 2 Comments

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you had a great weekend! We did some fall activities with the kids, and enjoyed beautiful sunshine all weekend long. I got to wear a new pair of boots (from Just Fab), rocked some dark lips, and enjoyed some cider! Fall perfection. Now, the dark lips I rocked I have to tell you guys about because it doesn’t transfer AT ALL! It’s amazing! I can kiss my babies, kiss my husband, drink my Starbucks, and eat a donut without getting dark lipstick everywhere or without is wearing off.

Stiff Upper Lip Moonstruck Minerals Lip Stain by Younique:

stiffupperlip-lipstain-younique-leahtackles.jpeg

Thoughts Before Trying:

I didn’t even know the Younique made anything but the 3D Fiber Mascara that they’re famous for (P.S Stay tuned for a video on that on my YouTube channel soon! I’ve always disliked Fiber mascara) until a few months ago. Kassie, a Younique distributer, reached out to me on Facebook and asked if I had tried any of the lip products, and hooked me up with a lip stain for consideration and review. Another girl, Megan, makes great YouTube videos showing off Younique products.

Review:

This stuff is AHHH-MAZING! I swatched this on my arm and it didn’t budge, even after rubbing it vigorously, all day long! I tested this out on my lips with chapstick or with nothing on them, and it lasted a very long time with both! I exfoliated my lips the second day before I put it on, and noticed that that really helped so that as it wore it didn’t wear off in patches at all. This stays on and doesn’t transfer off! I avoid dark lipsticks, even though I love them, because I am constantly cuddling and kissing little loves, but I can kiss them with this on without them being covered in lip product.

Thank you so much for reading! If you have any suggestions for great long wearing fall and winter lip colors that don’t kiss off, please let me know!! See you Wednesday!! Muah!

TOP SINGLE EYE SHADOW PICKS FOR ONE SHADOW LOOKS

October 7, 2015 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I wear makeup most days, and sometimes I only can spend a few minutes on my makeup, so I love having my favorite single eye shadows that I can swipe on my lids for a really easy look. If you have a favorite single shadow, please let me know what it is! I love comments!! ; )

bestsingleeyeshadows-singleeyeshadows-leahtackles.jpeg FullSizeRender (3)

1. M.A.C Paint Pot in Bare Study

This cream shadow makes a gorgeous base for eye shadows, but I also will swipe it on my lids for a super easy look. I have to always have this with me when I travel, too.

2. Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 Hour Eye Shadow in Inked in Pink

I use this alone on my lids ALL the time! I actually had this on the day before Logan was born, and it survived a drug-free labor ; ) I am planning to buy several more of these before our Disney trip so that I can wear a little makeup but only spend a few minutes doing it.

3. Elf Long-Lasting Lustrous Eyeshadow in Toast

How stunning is this color?! BAM! The texture of these eye shadows remind me of the Bouncy Blushes from Maybelline, and it’s again a very easy, very pigmented eye shadow.

4. L’Oreal Paris 24 Hour Infallible Eye Shadow in Iced Latte

The Infallible shadows are hugely popular, and for good reason! This might be my absolute favorite single shadow, and you can usually find them for buy one get one 50% off.

5. Urban Decay Single Shadow in Free Love

I just hauled this gorgeous metallic-y peach eye shadow in my Big Sephora Haul video, and I have worn it for almost a week straight! I love putting this into my crease with a fluffy brush for a look that looks like you spent a lot of time, but actually only took a minute!

If you liked this style of post, please let me know! I hope that you have a fantastic rest of your week and weekend! xx
