Are You Making These 5 Makeup Mistakes?!

June 8, 2015 & 4 Comments

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I hope that you had a great weekend! First things first, MICHIGAN readers have you entered to win the LivnFresh Detroit D shirt I’m giving away? It’s perfect for any Tiger fan! You have a few hours left to enter. You can enter on the LeahTackles Facebook page, and entering is easy : )

Now, I decided to talk about 5 makeup mistakes that are VERY common! Now, I am not claiming that I don’t make plenty of makeup mistakes, but I know that I make a lot less than I used to. So, today I am sharing 5 things that you should make sure you’re not guilty of.

*Note: These are *my* opinions and of course if you really enjoy what you’re doing or one of these makeup “mistakes” then please understand that I mean no offense to you and you should do whatever makes YOU feel beautiful! xx

#1 Using Expensive Makeup With Cheap Brushes

It took me YEARS to invest in nice makeup brushes. I didn’t own any brushes, except for the brushes that came in kits or that I found in tiny cheap kits at the drugstore, until after college. FOR SHAME : ( Using good brushes helps for your makeup to look better, period. I suggest starting with a kit, Sephora has some basic but get-the-job-done kits, and I love the sets from Sigma Beauty.

#2 Not Blending Your Eye Shadow

Just because you know to put a brow bone highlight, lid color, and crease color doesn’t mean your look is compelte, girl! BLENDING is your bff! Use a clean blending brush, and it will turn your amature eye makeup skills into art. My favorite blending brush is the E25 from Sigma.

#3 Too Much Dark Eye Liner On Lower Lash Line

Just. Say. No. This should not be an everyday look. Or at least please smudge it out. I did my fair share of this in high school, but seriously just try skipping it, or just doing your top lashline and waterline, because the difference is HUGE! It will open up your eyes and make your eyes look bigger.

#4  Ignoring Your Eyebrows

Yay for beautiful, groomed but not over plucked, filled in brows!!! I am so glad brows are back! On days where I wear no other makeup, I still like to fill in my brows and throw on some lipstick. Even if you just use a tinted brow gel, do not ignore your brows! Also, do not overpluck or let someone do too much waxing on your brows.

#5 Sleeping in Your Makeup

I did this all through college multiple days a week (days I went to a party or the bar, let’s be honest) and my skin was beautiful. Well guess what? Now I’m in my late 20’s and I want to keep my skin as beautiful as possible for as long as possible, so washing off your makeup is essential.  At the VERY LEAST use a makeup removing wipe ( I like these ones from Neutrogena). I have timed it, I can use a makeup remover, wash my face, use a toner, moisturizer, and eye cream in about 3 minutes. And it just FEELS clean.

Do you agree with these makeup mistakes? What makeup mistakes do you admit to making or have you made in the past? If you like these types of posts, please let me know in the comments and don’t forget to share! Thank you so much!!

10 Warning Signs That You Might Be A Lip Product Addict

June 3, 2015 & 2 Comments

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Thank you for being here! I was looking at my lip product drawer (don’t worry, picture will be below!…) and thought that it would be fun to talk about lip products and the girls who love them. So, without further ado, let’s get into it…

1. When someone asks you to choose a nude you have to get more information before you answer. Do they mean drugstore or high-end? Matte or glossy? Creamsheen? Lip Gloss? Lipstick? Pink-y Nude? True nude? “GIVE ME MORE INFORMATION because I have like 20…” : D

nudelipproducts-lipproductaddict-leahtackles.jpeg

2. You could wear 3 different lip products every week for a year before repeating a color…and you still “need” more.

3. You have bought an entire collection of a lip product line before. And you’re not sorry about it. <– Insert meme here ; )

10warningsignsthatyourealipproductaddict-leahtackles.jpeg

4. When you clean out your purse you have more lip products in the bottom than most people have in their vanity.

5. You know that M.A.C lipsticks smell like vanilla, and Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks smell like Play-Doh…if you didn’t know YOU’RE WELCOME!

6. “Pick a red lipstick” is not that simple of a request! Do you mean true red? Orange Red? Blue Toned Red? Matte Red? Holiday Red? Please, specify. #KThanksBye

7.  “Your lips but better” is a popular way to describe lip products, and you would use that term in a real life scenario.

8. You’ve gone back and bought a back up of a favorite limited edition color of a lipstick.

9. Lip Smackers may have started your love for lip products, but collecting lip products didn’t end there. (Dr. Pepper is still where it’s at, and do NOT tell me I’m wrong! If I’m wrong, I don’t want to be right!)

10. You lip product drawer (everyone DOES have a lip product drawer, right?) looks something like this (please ignore the clutter! Next post idea: 10 Warning Signs That You Are Type A?! : P ):

lipproductcollection-leahtackles.jpeg

So, if you can relate to 6 or more of the above, you may be in the lip product addicts club ; ) It’s not a bad one to be in as far as I’m concerned…a lipstick lasts far longer than an iced non fat no whip #JustSaying : P

Thank you so much for reading!! And don’t forget to check out LeahTackles on Facebook where I am giving away 4 different shirts from LivnFresh! See more information in the LivnFresh blog post here.

May Beauty & Fashion Favorites {with one SUPER random favorite thrown in!}

May 27, 2015 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Thank you for being here! I hope that you’re having a wonderful week! It is SO nice that it’s a 4 day week and it feels like Tuesday but it’s really Wednesday!! For those who have a regular work week this week and maybe don’t get holidays off, I worked in retail management, so I truly understand the struggle! I hope that you’re having a good week, too : )

ALSO! Don’t forget to *enter my Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush giveaway*! Go to my YouTube video that has all the details (*pssst! It’s EASY! Promise!) : ) The giveaway ends this Friday!

Today I want to jump right in and share a few favorites! I will be short and sweet with my descriptions, and if you’d like more details please let me know in the comments! You know I love comments : P

MAY FAVORITES:

IMG_7075

1. Too Faced *Limited Edition* Sugar Pop Palette:

toofacedcosmetics-sugarpoppalette-favorites-leahtackles.jpeg

This super colorful palette scared me initially because I’m a neural eye shadow girl, but I cannot stop wearing this! It is beautiful and pigmented, and you can still get a natural or smoky look and just add a small pop of color. Also, cutest packaging possibly ever. Go buy this!

2. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper:

katvond-tattooliner-leahtackles.jpeg

I didn’t want to like a $20 eye liner, I really, really didn’t, but this takes (MOST of) the stress out of the wing. I, unfortunately, love this.

3. Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in 205 Snow Pink:

revlonsuperlustrouslipglosssnowpink-leahtackles.jpeg

I’ve mentioned this before, but I’ve been reaching for it so often this month that it deserves another mention. This is a beautiful pinky nude gloss with just the right amount of sparkle. It feels great on the lips, looks perfect over so many nude & pink lipsticks or alone, and the packaging is super sleek.

4. Essie Nail Polish in Cute As A Button:

essie-cuteasabutton-leahtackles.jpeg

I wore this in my May PopSugar Must Have Unboxing video and recieved several comments asking WHAT was on my nails! I have so many colors that are similar to this pinky coral polish, but none quite like it. I love that it’s a coral color that leans more to pink than orange. It looks perfect on. I wear this with a basecoat and a glossy top coat.

5. Koko Cuff from EllandEmm (*Similar):

ellandemm-kokocuff-leahtackles.jpeg

I adore Ell and Emm jewelry, and I even gave one of these away last summer to one of my readers because I love it SO much! I love that this bracelet somehow manages to be edgy and different, while featuring the ever classic pearl. It is gorgeous and I always get compliments and questions about this piece.

RANDOM FAVORITE ALERT:

6. Milled Flax Seed:

milledflaxseed-hodgsonmills-leahtackles.jpeg

Okay, so you know those people who casually say that they just “Throw in a little flax seed” and you immediately wonder if they’re serious and how on earth they make healthy living sound so easily part of their every day world? I AM NOW ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE… well sort of ; ) I have been using milled flax seed, I buy the brand Hodgson Mill, in my breakfast shakes, smoothies, and even on my yogurt. It has TONS of omega 3 oils, fiber, it’s gluten free, has no sugar, no cholesterol, and no salt. Seriously! And I can’t even taste it when I mix it into things with big flavor like protein powder, a fruit/veg smoothie, or strawberry yogurt. Become one of those people with me and add this to stuff, you health nut ; )

Thank you for reading! And don’t forget to enter my giveaway! If you’re subscribed to my blog then you are halfway entered already ; ) xoxo

MANIC MONDAY! QUICK makeup!!

May 18, 2015 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

I had a post scheduled to go up today because I was out of town, but after a night of only a couple of hours of sleep, (my 2 year old! ah! Stephan got even less sleep than me last night! Thank you babe!) I decided to instead save that for later. So, today I want share how I did my makeup in 3 minutes so I still looked put together for an early morning meeting. Sometimes I just want to keep it really real and share my manic Monday makeup save! I almost wore nothing which while *completely* fine wouldn’t have looked as chic and this took less time than eating a donut or french pressing coffee ; )

3 Minute Makeup:

A fun bold lip that doesn’t require a liner and looks amazing on everyone with nice sharp liner and perfectly defined lashes! BOOM! Done!

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette First Impression and Review!

May 11, 2015 & 2 Comments

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Thank you for being here! I hope that you had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend : )

Today I am going to be talking about the Chocolate Bar palette from Too Faced just like I did last week with the Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation.

TOO FACED CHOCOLATE BAR PALETTE:

toofacedchocolatebarpalette-review-leahtackles.jpeg

First Impression:

I am swooning over this!!! Even though I’ve seen it swatched so many times, and swatched it myself at Sephora, having it in my hands at home is different!! And it smells amazing! Just like chocolate! I love that this has actual cocoa in it. My one inital complaint is that the names of the shadows are only on the plastic insert and not on the palette itself.

FullSizeRender (15) TooFacedChocolateBar-Swatches-LeahTackles.jpeg

FullSizeRender (16) toofacedchocolatebar-swatches-leahtackles.jpeg

Review:

These shades are all soft and buttery! I didn’t experience flaking or even much fallout when applying some of the sparkly shades, which I thought was impresive. I love Too Faced eye shadows and this palette is no different. I found these easy to blend, and they wore without creasing or fading all day. And does the cocoa powder really improve memory and have healing properties? I’m not sure, but it sure smells amazing!! I think I’ll get a lot of use out of this and can’t wait to come up with some fun looks! If you’d like a tutorial using this, please comment here! I would love to do one on my YouTube channel : )

Thank you again for spending some of your day reading my blog! I appreciate you all!

Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation First Impressions & Review

May 4, 2015 & 1 Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Recently I’ve picked up so many fun makeup items and while I *love* hauling them for you, I thought it would be fun to share some first impressions and reviews on some of the products I’ve gotten one at a time as opposed to one big haul or swatch fest. I am hoping that going into a bit more detail is helpful and one at a time will be less overwhelming. If you have any requests of products you’d like my opinion on, please feel free to let me know! I want to give the people what they want as much as I can ; ) I also am planning to work some of these products into tutorials and real wear reviews on my YouTube channel as well, so be on the lookout for that!

tarteamazonianclayairbrushfoundation-leahtackles.jpeg

Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation:

tarteamazonclayairbrushfoundation-review-leahtackles.jpeg

First Impression:

I was a bit nervous because I did order this online and thought that the color I ordered might not be right as it was described as being peach undertones and I always consider myself as pink undertones, but I went for it because there isn’t a pink undertones option in the lightest shade. So, thankfully upon first swatch “Fair Honey” for fair skin with peach undertones seems to be a good match. Beautiful packaging! And I love the netting that covers the foundation so it doesn’t get everywhere, but it’s soft netting so you can actually get it out by pressing your brush into it as opposed to having to dump some into the lid like I do with some loose powder products in my collection.

Application:

I was AMAZED at how little of this I needed! It’s a buildable full coverage foundation, and I love how natural it looks. I did find that the tip of my nose did get a bit shiny after several hours, but it was a warm day and I was fairly active. I love that it didn’t seem to break up on my skin, even on my nose where I was noticing some shine. I love that I was able to go back in a bit later in the day and add a little more to touch up. So far I am very impressed and think I’ll be wearing this a lot this summer!

Tarte Airbuki Bamboo Powder Foundation Brush:

leahtackles-tarteamazonclayfoundationbrush-review-leahtackles.jpeg

First Impression:

I love this! I have a pretty decent collection of makeup brushes, but I don’t have ANYTHING like this! It is SO densely packed! I am glad that I ordered this to try with the makeup.

Review:

Could I use the foundation without this and get good results? Yes, probably! I have other kabuki style brushes and Bare Minerals brushes, but I am very happy I ordered this. Just like when I ordered my Cover FX Contour Kit (mentioned in my High End Beauty Haul video) and I said that I opted to try the brush that is suggested to use with it, I thought that I might as well try the brush that is made specicially for this foundation so I could give the foundation its best shot. I know that sometimes I will dislike a foundation until I swich up my application method and then I end up really enjoying it. I am so far very happy with this brush, and how cute is it?! VERY cute!

So, I have only worn this foundation for one full day, but so far I am very happy. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know! I would also love to do a turoial using this foundation and brush on my YouTube channel, so let me know if you’re interested in that as well.

Thank you as always for being here! It means so much to me to have a bit of your time! Also, be sure to be on the lookout for a Tarte giveaway coming up soon!! xoxo

IPSY GLAM BAG APRIL 2015!

April 20, 2015 & Leave a Comment

Hi there! Happy Monday!

Last month instead of writing a blog post for my Ipsy Glam Bag I did an unbagging first impressions video on my YouTube channel. I decided that this month I wanted to write a blog post on it, but if you missed seeing last months post you can watch the video. I did originally plan on doing a video unboxing, but it turned into a hilarious bloopers video for my channel : ) Please don’t forget to let me know what you got in your Ipsy this month if you’re a subscriber, and what you thought!

Ipsy Glam Bag March 2015:

My April Ipsy Glam Bag:

ipsyglambagapril2015-leahtackles.jpeg

Bag and Theme:

ipsyglambagapril2015-leahtackles.jpeg

The theme is “Beautifully Bohemian” and the bag is an adorable straw bag with colorful stripes. I *love* the bag! It is so cute and summery, and the inside is lined so even though the outside is straw it can still function as a makeup bag.

JulieG Nail Color in Damsel:

juliegnailpolish-ipsyglambag-leahtackles.jpeg

I love nail polish. This is a beautifully creme midtone pink color. I have a really embarassingly gigantic nail polish collection that I justify because I do my own nails and switch the colors often. I have not used this brand before, but hopefully it’s as pretty as appears in the bottle and wears well.

Hey Honey Good Morning Honey Silk Facial Serum:

heyhoneyserum-ipsy-leahtackles.jpeg

I am excited to try this out! I am really pleased with the generous size of this sample because I will actually be able to get a good feel for the product. I am thinking even though it says “Good Morning” in the name that I may prefer it under a night moisturizer because I do tend to worry about getting oily in the daytime. I will check it out.

Starlooks Lipgloss in Cuddle:

starlookslipgloss-leahtackles.jpeg

At first glance I do not like this color. It seems a bit matronly, but once swatched I think it could have potential over nude lipsticks. We will see. Not a fan of the packaging, but the formula seems okay, and I love the small size with a nice doe foot applicator for tossing into any bag.

Nude Dude Volume 2 Eyeshadow in Fit:

leahtackles-thebalmnudedude-ipsy.jpeg

I was SO excited to see something from The Balm. When I had my makeup done for my wedding the makeup artist used mostly The Balm and I have adored the brand ever since. I own the nude ‘tude palette from the balm, and now I really want the Nude Dude. They are reasonably priced, especially compared to other high-end neutral eyeshadow palettes, and very highly pigmented! Also, how cute is the packaging? They also offter a “clean” version if you don’t like the suggestive packaging of the Nude ‘Tude, but I am not sure of the Nude ‘Dude options. I got the color “fit” which is a beautiful copper color with gorgeous shimmer. I love that we got an adorable package magnetic closure which is such a nice touch.

Aromachology Rollerball Perfume in Sophisticated & Sensual:

aromochology-perfume-leahtackles.jpeg

At first sniff I wasn’t that into this, but after wearing it for the past couple of days I actually am really growing to love it. And, Stephan commented that I smelled good when I was wearing it (and he didn’t know it was something that I was reviewing or something new) which is always a bonus ; ) I love a rollerball for traveling and for my bag!

Overall I LOVED this month! I will use everything, and I see myself reaching for these products on a regular basis. Once again to me this was definitely worth the $10 that Ipsy costs/month. If you are interested in Ipsy, you can find out more here. Let me know what you thought in the comments or what products you got in your bag!!

Have a wonderful week and thank you for reading loves!! xo

Lilly Pulizter for Target Favorites & Info!

April 8, 2015 & 2 Comments

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

I love Lilly Pulitzer. I love Target. Now, if you haven’t heard yet, these two *beautiful* things are coming together. Yep, a beautiful beautiful collab is happening here folks!!! On April 19th the Lilly Pulitzer line for Target is launching!! I’ll give you a minute incase you didn’t know

…

Ahhhhh!!! Right?!? I am SO excited! I adore Lilly but the prices totally kill me, and I have don’t have much because of that. But the look book for the Target collection show completely reasonable (in my opinion) price points which is making this even more exciting. I want to get a few of the online only items AND make the trip to Target (most of you know it is actually a trip for me…”boo” to no close Target!) on the 19th. Is that nuts? Whatever, it’s very likely happening ; )

Today I want to share a few of MY favorites with you, links included, and get you excited for this fabulous collection! But in all honesty, pretty much the entire collection is my favorite soooo yeah, there is that. Also, they have a girls collection, and I have an almost 4 year-old…yeaaaah that’s also happening! Mother/Daughter matching outfits may be happening!

Drugstore Contour Kit?! Makeup Haul!

April 1, 2015 & 2 Comments

Hi there! Happy Wednesday!

Thank you so much for reading my blog! And if you haven’t yet, be sure to check out my *NEW* YouTube channel! I have been uploading two videos a week and would love it if you would each check it out. Subscribing can be done with the click of a button, and if you have a Gmail account you have a Youtube account because YouTube is owned by google. If you are signed into your email, you can like, subscribe, and comment on any video!

Today I have a few drugstore makeup goodies to share with you, including a $3 contour kit! Whaaaat?! I’ll stop rambling on and let’s get into it : )

Drugstore Makeup Haul:

drugstoremakeuphaul-leahtackles.jpeg

drugstoreMAClipstickdupes-leahtackles.jpeg

MAClipstickdupes-leahtackles.jpeg

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in 006 Really Red:

My sweet hubs got me 3 drugstore lipsticks as part of my birthday gift because he researched M.A.C lipstick dupes for me because he thought it would be a good blog post!! <–Yes, seriously! I had no idea. How cuuuute is he?!I love this classic red lipstick! This one is supposed to be a dupe for Russian Red. It is matte, so it seems a tad drying, but not anymore so than any matte lipstick. I usually gravitate to blue toned reds, so I am excited to add a true red to my makeup collection. Also, I love the Revlon Super Lustrous lipsticks in general! Sleek, classic packaging, and a huuuuuge color range.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in 013 Smoked Peach:

This is a dupe for Ravishing by M.A.C and I am really glad Stephan got me this because I would have NEVER chosen this color on my own for me. I am pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the salmon-y peach color on me! I thought it would be too orange for my light skin, but with a bare face it worked almost like one of my favorite nudes but a bit fresher…perfect for spring! This is a matte, so again it is going to be a bit drying, but I found this to be less drying than the Really Red mentioned above.

Wet n’ Wild Lipstick in Pinkerbelle:

This is supposed to be a dupe for Viva Glam Nicki. This is a SUPER bright in-yo-face pink and I think it will be so fun for a statement lip in the summer. It does seem a bit drying, but I think with a little balm it will be great for occasional use.

Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser in Brightener:

maybelllineagerewinddarkcirclecorrectorbrightener-leahtackles.jpeg

I love this salmon-y brightening under eye concealer! I repurchase this over and over again! When I want to really cover my bad dark circles I use this first and then a skin toned concealer over this.

Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder in 10 Porcelain Ivory:

I love this powder! It is soft and has a buildable coverage, but I like to just use a little bit of it to finish my foundation. Be careful, it can be cakey if you reapply too much/too often. I buy this again and again!

Covergirl Ink It! Eye Liner in 250 Charcoal Ink:

covergirlinkiteyeliner-leahtackles.jpeg

I have a hard time getting eyeliner to stay on the waterline, and I was hoping that this would stay for me but it doesn’t : ( Wah waaaah. I do think that this glides onto my lid smoothly, and would be nice for a smokey eye, but that isn’t a look I do often. Still, a nice pencil eyeliner with a precise tip. I do like that this doesn’t need to be sharpened.

Maybelline The Blushed Nudes Palette:

maybellineblushednudesswatches-leahtackles.jpeg

maybelline-blushednudes-leahtackles.jpeg

I love this!! I am a huuuge fan of the Urban Decay Naked 3 and this does have some comparable shades. A few of the lighter shades are a bit powdery and sheer when swatched, but I find good pigmentation with more colors than not. I love the way this is set up, just the The Nudes palette from Maybelline, in quads, trios, and duos which they show on the back of the package! It is very user friendly and if you don’t have the Naked 3 and you’re on a budget or a beginner, I definitely suggest this. I found this at my local Walart for $9 and I know it’s been sold out almost everywhere, including my store, but I just happened to be there right when it was stocked. If you’re interested in a comparison post or more information, please let me know in the comments!

eos Visibly Soft Lip Balm in Coconut Milk and Vanilla Mint:

I love eos lip balms and I was excited to try these new visibly soft ones. I can’t really tell THAT much difference from the original eos balms, but the packaging is adorable and I still use them every day before applying lip color. I prefer the Coconut Milk and would repurchase that over the Vanilla Mint.

Wet n’ Wild Coloricon Contouring Palette in 750A Caramel Toffee:

wetnwildcontouringpalette-leahtackles.jpeg

wetnwild-contouringpalette-leahtackles.jpeg

I am sooo excited for this one! I love love love the hidden gems that Wet n’ Wild offers (hello amazing cheap eye shadow!) and am so happy they’ve decided to offer a contouring product. I think it’s genius that it only has two colors because there is no picking which contour or highlight shade to use, you just have one option for each. My Walmart only had one shade, but I have seen online that there are in fact two avaliable. I love that these are matte and I love how much product you get. I will say that it was a *tiny* bit powdery, and not crazy pigmented, but I think you can definitely build it up as needed. I think this is something that would be perfect for contouring beginners, and a great option for anyone who loves to contour and wants to try something new. You really can’t lose when it costs about $3!

What items have you been loving from the drugstore lately? Please let me know in the comments! Commenting is SUPER easy, just click the link by the title of this post!
